Chapter 235: Selling Water
Once they walked through the gate, Yao Ran looked back and saw the soldier closing the metal gate again.
Xiao Yan noticed her gaze and whispered, "Those who live here have all donated supplies to the military. There is a rumor that this place will become a restricted area when the base is built. Many people want to move here, but the military says they must donate enough supplies before they can live here."
Yao Ran considered Xiao Yan's words and realized the military intended to secure support from wealthy and influential families. Unable to directly request supplies, the military decided to indirectly sell villas and houses that would later be incorporated into the base. If Xu Qipeng truly wanted to break away from the central government, he needed supplies, military power, and political influence. Providing these wealthy and influential people with protection and privileges in exchange for supplies and support was a smart move on his part. After walking for over twenty minutes, Xiao Yan pointed to five villas near a dried-up artificial lake and said, "Those five villas now belong to our boss. Brother Yuan is already waiting for you in the fifth villa."
Yao Ran nodded, and they walked to the fifth villa. As they approached, the workers in the front yard looked at them with curiosity and interest.
One of the workers asked, "Xiao Yan, who are they?"
Xiao Yan paused and replied, "These two are esteemed guests of our boss and Brother Yuan." Hearing this, the man looked disappointed and went back to work.
Noticing this, Xiao Yan snorted and, in a low voice, said to Yao Ran and Long Yu, "Miss Yao, Brother Long, if anyone bothers you, please let me know. There are many people here who like to take advantage of others. I will handle them for you."
Yao Ran was used to this kind of people and responded calmly, "Alright."
When they reached the front door, Xiao Yan said, "Miss Yao, I can only accompany you two this far."
"Thank you."
After Yao Ran and Long Yu entered the villa, Xiao Yan closed the door and went off to do his work.
Inside the villa, Yao Ran noticed that the interior was mostly empty, with only a few pieces of furniture in the spacious living room. Sitting on the sofa, Yuan Rihui stood up and smiled when he saw them.
Realizing his mistake, Yuan Rihui cursed inwardly. He looked apologetically at Yao Ran and said, "My apologies, Miss Yao. That was my oversight."
"It's alright." Yao Ran said.
After a moment of silence, she said, "I can offer ten thousand liters of clean water for these antiques."
Although ten thousand liters of water sounds a lot, it can only last a few days.
Yuan Rihui frowned and said, "Miss Yao, can you offer a bit more? These antiques are older and more valuable than the last batch. Thirty thousand liters of water would be a fair deal." After a moment's thought, Yao Ran replied, "I can give you twenty thousand liters of water at most."
After some quick calculations, Yuan Rihui finally agreed and said, "Deal."
Yao Ran smiled, "I don't have a water tanker, so you will need to provide one for me. I will fill
it with water each night for ten days and deliver it to you, but I will take the antiques with me
today."
"Alright." Yuan Rihui agreed, and he instructed his men to pack the antiques and load them into a small truck.
Half an hour later, they left the villa area, with Long Yu driving the water tanker and Yao Ran driving the small truck. They drove to the abandoned factory area directly from the villa area. Yao Ran parked the truck and opened its compartment. She waved her hand, transferring all the boxes into her space.
After Long Yu had parked the water tanker, Yao Ran climbed up the small stairs beside the tanker, opened the lid, and used her water element ability to fill it. After about fifteen minutes, the tank was full.
Once she finished, she closed the lid tightly and came down.
