Chapter 190 - A Promise Ring

"One.. Two... Three!!!" Shi Xue said loudly as she raised her arms and tossed the bouquet in her hands for the next lucky bride. This was the second time she had tossed the flower bouquet since the first time didn't count. The first time she threw the bouquet; a baby girl caught it.

After the bouquet had been back up in the air, every single lady at the wedding fought on top of one another to receive it. As if the goddess of love has played another trick, the bouquet landed in Susu's hands.

Staring blankly at the bouquet in her hands, her lips twitched. "Ah, I caught it again.." This time nobody could murmur any objections! Seeing the bride walking towards Susu's direction, everyone paved a path for Shi Xue.

Holding Susu's hands, Shi Xue smiled, "Congratulations! I hope you'll become the happiest bride when you and your family's Chen Mu are ready to move on to the next step. I'm glad to see you all healthy and well."

"Thank you. You look very beautiful today. I hope you and Zhi Hei happiness overflow every day. Also, have lots and lots of little ones hehehehee." Susu gave her a tight hug before sharing a toast with the newlyweds.

In the middle of the wedding, Chen Mu led Susu away from the crowd where he didn't need to scream on top of his lungs for her to hear him. He held her hands, looking nervous compared to his usual self. Right when she wanted to ask him if everything was alright, he started speaking.

"Susu, we've known each other since young. Even though I've known you through a different identity, I'm still calculating that time when we made our promise to each other. I know what you've had on your mind and also understand what you're worrying about...but...."

"After going through life and death with you, I realized life was not a guarantee. I've watched you chase after Tian Yuo and end up hurting yourself. I've cheered you on and cheered you up many times, but I will not do anything behind your back anymore. I will show you with my actions of how much I love and cherish you."

"Whether it was the me who stayed by your side as a close friend for years or the me, whom you've been dating; I'll always support your decisions. I'll carry your worries and burdens with you. From the first time we've held hands to our many first times, I've always treated these moments preciously. From a teenager who went from puppy love to experiencing many times where I've almost lost you... I, Chen Mu, do not want to waste another second on holding back."

Kneeling down on one knee, he confessed, "Susu, I love you. I want to give you an official status as my other half. I originally wanted to say the same old vows, but I figured that's a bit dull. Instead, I've already came up with a check list. Through poverty and wealth, we've been through this together. Through sickness and in health, we've taken care of one another."

"The only part of the vow that we haven't done yet is spend the rest of our lives together. And this part, I will show you using the number of years we have from now till one of us leaves first." Taking out a ring box from his dress pants, he opened it.

"I understand your concerns about your health, but I can assure you I have no trouble waiting for you to be ready. This ring is a promise ring. Not an engagement nor a wedding ring. This is a promise I'm making to you. Susu, will you accept my promise to care, love and cherish you while I am still capable of doing so?"

With tears rushing to escape her eyes, she nodded with a few sniffles. Extending her left hand, she let him place the promise ring on her index finger. Wiggling her fingers with the back of her hands facing him, she said, "I'll be waiting for the engagement and wedding ring."

"And I'll be waiting for the day when you could accept the rings with a straight up yes. When that time comes, it'll be a yes without any hesitation nor burdens." After standing up and stretching his legs, he immediately wrapped his arms around her. He gave her a peck on her forehead with a victorious smile.

As they walked back to join their friends, Chen Mu extended out his arm. With two fingers raised, it formed a victory sign. The gold smile on their faces already gave away her acceptance. It was an extra special addition to the joyous occasion.

After going through many ups and downs, the couple finally reached closer to their childhood promise. Another two and a half years later, invitations were delivered to close friends and family. Inside the invitation was a collage of Chen Mu and Susu's pictures.

Soon, under the witness of all their loved ones, Susu walked down the aisle with Chen Mu on the other end. Holding each other's hands and staring affectionately at one another, they exchanged the words: "I do."

Flashback to their first meeting:

Susu: " Your ring matches mine. When we grow up, I'll be your bride!"

Chen Mu smiled, "Okay."

Susu: "Let's pinky swear with the rings on our fingers!"

Sliding their fingers through the ring, they exchanged promises to grow old together.

-Present-

Sliding the same rings they've used as a promise from many years ago, they completed their commitment to each other. Since the very beginning to the end, it's always been him and her.

Whispering to her ears, he said, "I love you."

"I love you too." She returned the sweet words before closing the gap between their lips.

"Ahem, you may kiss the bride." The minister said even though the couple already did the deed under everyone's witness.

"Wooooo!!! Keep your smooches for your wedding night!!!" Whistles and cheers added to the celebration for the special occasion.
