Broken Engagement (2)

Kyrie stretched over the stool, frowning at her throbbing migraine.

“Are you all right, miss?”

“Yes.”

“Should MaryAnne bring a magician who disposes of bad people?”

Kyrie laughed at MaryAnne’s sincere words.

“It’s okay. Can you boil some lavender, a little more than that? I have a migraine.”

“Of course, MaryAnne is confident in making tea!”

MaryAnne hurriedly brought tea leaves with her small hands and began to heat up the water.

It seemed to her that she could live peacefully just because of the soothing sound.

There were ups and downs, but it was finally over, now that she had said goodbye to that fucking Rubinia.

“How could you postpone breaking up your engagement, just because you didn’t want to give me the palimony…” (T/N: ‘Palimony’ it literally means finance given on the termination of an engagement)

At Kyrie’s murmur, MaryAnne’s nose wrinkled.

“It’s all over now, so take a rest. Everyone said it’s great we won’t see Cassner again!”

“Why?”

Kyrie asked as she was accepting the teacup. MaryAnne, who was giving a cookie, quickly grumbled.

“Cassner came with the Crown Prince every time he visited the mansion. Every time, I hated it so much!” (T/N: Here MaryAnne should have used ‘miss’/’lady’ but she purposely used the informal way to address her)

“I’ve never heard of it…Did you?”

“Yes! When the prince degraded you, saying that you aren’t cute, Cassner smiled and said, ‘There aren’t any men around her, so it can’t be helped.’ That’s why MaryAnne and others hated Cassner!”

“I should have thrown a cup of tea.”

The migraine got worse again. Kyrie’s long, light purple hair hung down as she tilted her head back.

Kyrie already knew that her own face was not as pretty as Rubinia’s face.

‘If you were polite to begin with, you wouldn’t have met a man with a fiancé.’

Rubinia’s eyes weren’t like those women who were naive and would fall in love.

Recently, the three had met at the founding ball.

Rubinia entered with Eden as her escort, and Kyrie entered with her father.

While opening her eyes and looking around with exaggeration.

‘Miss Buchanan, I don’t see your escort. Who did you come in with?’

‘My father escorted me.’

‘Ah…’

At that time, Kyrie couldn’t recognize the ridicule that flashed by on Rubinia’s face.

‘I’m sorry, Miss Buchanan. I couldn’t resist because the prince wanted to enter with me……’

Laura, who was next to her, couldn’t bear to see it and rebuked.

‘Miss Cassner, Miss Kyrie is having a chat with us. Would you step back?’

‘Oh, my… Miss Laura. Can’t I join?’

‘I’m a little embarrassed by you.’

Rubinia’s face became cold in the face of Laura’s cold-hearted words, but her smile quickly returned.

‘Yes, it’s time to get going, since the prince called me to the garden.’

She was a woman who had to say something like that to make herself feel better.

After Rubinia disappeared, Laura’s anger broke out instead of Kyrie’s, who had become used to it.

‘She’s mad! Coming between two engaged people, what sort of behavior is that?’

‘I don’t understand Miss Cassner anymore.’

Maria, who usually did not gossip about others, helped them by venting a bit of their anger.

Thanks to two friends who were angry in her stead, Kyrie was able to laugh.

‘Guys, people are listening.’

‘Let them!’

Laura answered angrily.

Even if anyone heard about how they were talking about the Crown Prince, no one would blame them in front of Laura, the young lady of Marquis of FortDucane, and Maria the young lady of the Duke of Old Ciudad.

Thinking of the two, Kyrie raised her chin and straightened her neck out like a deer.

“Obviously, if she hears that I broke the engagement today, Laura will be excited and dance for joy. How about Maria?”

“Shall I prepare a letter?”

The quick-witted MaryAnne had already taken out the ink and pen. Kyrie rose with a smile.

“Yes, I’m going to play around while I’m no longer engaged. At times like these, you need to show that you’re doing better.”

A crack of light appeared when the door was suddenly opened.

“Kyrie! Kyrie Buchanan! Come here!”

It was Count Cesar Buchanan, Kyrie’s father.

Kyrie rose from her seat with a frown.

“Father…”

Slap!

Cesar’s hand struck Kyrie’s cheek before she could finish greeting him.

‘I knew it’

She felt her jaw crack and thought that she may have been hit too hard. Then Kyrie said sarcastically, wiping away the bitter blood with her hands.

“Oh my. Didn’t the alimony negotiations go well?”

Slap!

Another slap fell on her cheek.

She could see MaryAnne shivering from behind.

Kyrie raised her head and looked up at Kaiser.

“I have two cheeks, but what else can I offer to you?”

“This was your attitude in the face of the Crown Prince?”

“Of course not. At least he didn’t slap me.”

Kaiser raised his hand one more time, but he mumbled something and stopped as he clenched his fist.

“You! I told you to act properly! Why the hell did you break your engagement!”

“Father, I wasn’t the one to ask to break the engagement.”

“If you had acted as affectionately as Lady Cassner, the Crown Prince would not have asked you to break the engagement!”

Kyrie snorted.

“Do you really think so?”

“Did you realize this was your last opportunity? You lost the chance to be queen!”

“Then why didn’t you marry the prince?”

Slap!

The slap was so strong that she sank on the floor.

An old memory flashed through my head.

‘Kyrie, a noble should always stand firm and know how to sacrifice themselves for the family. That attitude is the essence of a noble.’

‘What are you trying to say?’

‘Get engaged to the Crown Prince This is the order of the Emperor and you don’t have the right to refuse.’

Cesar, the head of the family, taught Kyrie to uphold the honor and glory of the family.

She would be responsible for gaining a respectable and prominent fiance in order to repay the grace she had received growing up.

So she accepted the engagement to the Crown Prince, whom she had never spoken to.

She ignored the people’s gossip and their pointing fingers.

However, when the involuntary engagement ended in a spontaneous breakup, Kyrie’s patience finally reached its limit.

‘How long? How long must I endure?’

She stared at Cesar with her purple eyes blazing.

“That’s why I endured for one whole year. My fiancé and his lover were insulting me but my father ordered for me to never break my marriage, so I endured for one year!”

“Then why would you let your fiance get stolen by some other women!”

“Ha! What about father? Did you get divorced by my mother because you’re so good?”

A spark appeared in Cesar’s eyes at Kyrie’s words.

“You ungrateful bitch!”

“No, master!”

As soon as Cesar raised his foot, the frightened MaryAnne rushed in and covered Kyrie.

“No, Master! Don’t hurt my lady again! The last wound hasn’t healed yet! Master!”

“What the hell is this!”

“MaryAnne, don’t interfere!”

“No! MaryAnne doesn’t want you to get hurt anymore! It’s not your fault”

“MaryAnne!”

Kyrie tried to make MaryAnne move but she was too late. Cesar forcefully kicked MaryAnne’s back.

“How dare you, a mere maid!”

“Father!”

MaryAnne fell to the floor but Cesar did not care and continued to kick her.

“You’re on probation, Kyrie Buchanan! Reflect on yourself at the Elsus villa until I say otherwise!”

“Father!”

“You’re as ungrateful as your mother! Think about who you should be grateful to for the money you live off of!”

Cesar left the room. Kyrie wrapped her arms around MaryAnne’s shoulder with trembling hands.

There was no disappointment or sadness in her eyes.

She didn’t expect anything from him anyways.
