Chapter 337 - The Ambush

Everybody else may doubt brother. But she doesn't. It's precise because everybody doubts him that she has to believe in him. The date brother mentioned on the letter is tomorrow. They arrived in Junlan church just on time then. Any later, then she would have missed her brother's message. The entire night, Kazuya held her so tightly. Due to how nervous she was, it was difficult to fall asleep. Kazuya has never held her that closely before.

The piece of news Kazuya gave her also contributed to her lack of sleep. 'He isn't blood-related to you. He's the son of the Sun Kingdom.' Her brother isn't her brother at all. Lyn did think about that possibility before. But only because she felt that their relationship was unusual. Maybe for brother, it would be better for her if she wasn't his sister. This way, he would truly be able to treat her as somebody vital to him. Then, what about her? What about her feelings?

Even the feelings she felt for Arthur seemed to fade away like dust. Though it is true, she cared about him for a very long time. But even it felt like something was missing. Is she truly empty?

….

Lyn was not surprised when she saw that Kazuya was not beside her when she woke up. She got dressed and quickly made her way out of the room. It was quiet on the way down, and Lyn understood why. Kazuya must have gone to meet the group of soldiers her brother sent

Her thoughts broke off when she saw Rhys leaning against the door frame. "Can I stop you?"

"Rhys?"

"Tell me to stop you."

Lyn laughed, "You know that's unreasonable of you."

Rhys didn't look her in the eye, and she walked over to grab hold of his hand. How many times has he saved her with these large hands of his? But even so, this hand isn't the one from her memory. No matter how fond she is of him, nothing will ever happen between them.

Suddenly Rhys pushed her against the wall; he traced her lips with his thumb. "Tell me, Lyn, do you think it is impossible between us?"

"Why are you asking this now?"

"Well, there is nothing wrong with me asking. What if something happens to you, I at least want to know."

Lyn sighed, "Are you trying to jinx me?"

"You know that isn't it?"

"Mmm, I know you're worried about me. But it's okay; my brother won't harm me."

"You're still calling him your brother after what Kazuya told you.."

Laughter passed her lips, "Yes. For me, that person will always be my brother."

…....

The meetup point with brothers associates should be here. What a strange place, the entire area was the abandoned grounds of a battle arena. But, it felt like it was still in use. Thankfully, Kazuya was with her, or she would certainly freak out.

Kazuya was holding her hand tightly the entire time. "Kazuya, before I go to brother. Can I have a hug please?"

Kazuya immediately pulled her into his arms, and Lyn felt how badly he was trembling. Is he scared? Nothing will happen to her. Her brother may be the phantom thief or whatever, but he won't harm her. Though he wrote that letter in a rush, Lyn felt the emotions behind his writing. Brother won't harm her; even now, he cares for her.

"Kazuya, talk to me, please?"

She doesn't know how long she will stay with her brother before she has to return.

"Lyn, don't go."

"Don't be silly, Kazuya. Brother wants to see me, and he even said he would give you the treasure, right?"

"That's why it's weird. That man knew about us coming here; he knew that you'd be drawn to the case… Lyn, this is very weird. Let's reconsider now and go back."

Lyn understood where Kazuya was coming from. Her brother did know too much. If it weren't for those cases, she would not have come all the way out here. It's exactly like what Kazuya said. Brother either knew about those suicides beforehand, or he was part of it somehow. Either way, he had some connection.

She gently pressed her lips against his, and the kiss turned into a long one. "Kazuya, I'll be fine. It'll be okay."

"Do you have to go so far?"

"Yes, because I want us to have a future together."

She's already made her mind up. To have the future she envisioned with Kazuya. There are plenty of things she has to finish. "Lyn… I love you."

Her eyes brightened at his words, "Un, me too. So much, that's why..there are things I have to do first."

What is her brother's connection to the suicides? Where has he been this entire time, why did they drive him out of the castle? Did he really kill all those people? She has so many questions for him. Unless she sees him personally, she won't get any answers. But, even then it was hard for her to keep believing in him. Brother, please.. do not do anything to break the trust and belief she has had for him all these years. She does not want to harm anybody who is precious to her.

Kazuya sighed, "You really do know how to make me speechless. Our future together, huh?"

"Kazuya?"

"Your deciding for me again."

Lila's cheeks reddened, "Oh, uh, I'm sorry about that. I thought you'd be fine with it though, did I make a mistake?" she said embarrassed.

"You didn't, but I have to admit. You keep talking about the future. Have you considered my proposal yet? Well, I wouldn't mind if you say yes now. It will give me an excuse to rush to your side without people giving you a hard time."

"Proposal.. Silly, don't talk about that now."

Kazuya sighed, "Really, Lyn. I'm serious about my feelings for you. Marry me already, and then you don't have to suffer. We can be together all the time."

Together all the time with Kazuya? Before Lyn could say anything else, though, she felt a dark presence.

"Lyn, get your weapon out," Kazuya mumbled.

"But if their brother's friends…"

"No, these people are the ones who were following me. They aren't related to your brother, I'm sure."

Ah, the ones who were chasing him? Lyn saw how tense Kazuya looked and understood. She cant underestimate these people; even Kazuya is worrying. She closed her eyes and felt the power surge her body as a familiar weapon appeared in her hands. "Kazuya, we will fight together, so.."

So, don't make that face. Don't look so hurt.

Kazuya smiled weakly. "Please be careful, Lyn." From his tone and his expression, it was clear that he did not want her to participate at all.

Lyn nodded, "I know." Her gaze fell on the people approaching them. She could see them now; this time, these people were not bothering to hide their faces. They look like ruffians, and yet she can feel the power surge through their bodies. This power is not natural.

The abnormal? So be it, she would show them who is abnormal. These people, no matter what she will..
