Chapter 1502 - Never wrong a good man and let a bad person off easily.

“Yes.” Ji Ziming nodded his head with certainty.

“You’ll never wrong a good man and let off a bad person easily.” There was a tinge of sadness in Pei Ge’s voice. Earlier this morning, Huang Zhian told her that he got married in the first half of the year. Even if he committed something wrong, she did not wish to see him spend his remaining years in prison.

“Ge Ge…” The man spoke gently in an attempt to comfort her.

“Alright. Say no more. Let’s go home.” Even if she did not believe him, she knew his character well. If he said that someone had an ulterior motive, then that person really had one.

She finally understood now why he refused to let her be with Huang Zhian alone. On top of feeling jealous, he was worried that she would be manipulated by that guy or, worse still, be implicated in this.

Ji Ziming looked at the woman and knew that he needed not speak further. For some matters, one just needed time alone to digest them. Only after they had thought it through would the problem be solved. It was of no use to comfort them.

The car soon arrived at the Ji family’s mansion, and standing right at the courtyard was Madam Ji, who was watering the flowers. When she saw the black Lincoln parking at the doorstep, she quickly put down the watering can and ran to Pei Ge’s side.

“Aiyo! my obedient baby, you’re finally back!” She wanted to help her out, but her hand was politely brushed off by the latter.

“Auntie, I’m feeling a bit under the weather; I’ll go back to my room first and rest so you don’t have to worry about me.” Pei Ge got out of the car and shot the man a glance before continuing. “You don’t need to call me for dinner, too, as I’m truly kinda tired.”

Seeing her unusual behavior, the older woman grabbed her son, who was about to enter the door, and grilled him in a hushed voice. “What’s wrong with her? Did you anger her? Son, mom is warning you: You can anger anyone but her; do you understand?”

“Mom, I didn’t anger her; she’s just feeling slightly under the weather.”

Ji Ziming smirked, and his upward slanting lips made his mother very suspicious.

The woman was still well when she left this morning, but she became like this upon her return, appearing thoroughly exhausted.

“It’s great that you didn’t. What to do now that she isn’t having dinner? This won’t do; you should convince her to come down for dinner or bring some food to her room. Speak to her nicely; she’s a soft-hearted person and won’t be too petty with you.”

Madam Ji still believed that the woman was infuriated with her son; if not, she would not have acted like this.

“Alright; I’ll bring her dinner tonight.” The man tugged at his tie, and the tiredness in his eyes was ignored by his mother.

The moment Pei Ge entered the living room, she saw Qu Jingwan sitting on the sofa and working on her laptop. Walking past her, the lady’s red lips moved as her cold voice drifted into her ears. “What’s wrong? Are you truly feeling uncomfortable after spending the whole day out?”

“I don’t want to quarrel with you today.” She shot an icy look at her.

“I didn’t say that I want to quarrel with you. You’re pregnant now, so I don’t dare to quarrel with you. What if I scare the baby? Auntie will tear me apart, but if you aren’t scared by me, then that’s another thing.”

“What do you mean?” She furrowed her brows as she looked at the lady’s scarlet lips, oval face, and black outfit. She looked just like a crow from hell.

“You understand what I mean. You’re making use of your pregnancy to obtain auntie’s care and concern. She even bought a rare South-African diamond which only appears every one thousand year for you. Doesn’t doing this make your heart hurt?”

Qu Jingwan put down the laptop in her lap and the look in her eyes became a dagger that stabbed Pei Ge’s fragile heart deeply.

“Whatever I do is my business, and it’s none of yours.” She did not bother with the other anymore and just headed to her room.

“Hmph! Of course, I can’t mind your business, but it’s another story for the doctor who gave the result of your prenatal checkup.” Behind her, the lady scoffed. The mockery in her voice caused a chill to run down the other’s spine.

Whatever one was fearful of would come knocking at their door.

“Well, if you’re unafraid of me telling auntie about your dirty deeds, then tell her openly about the doctor’s diagnosis; I’m not stopping you.”

She paused for a moment before decisively reminding the lady that she held her weakness, too. It worked as well even if both sides suffered losses.

“You!” Qu Jingwan was infuriated, and she clenched her fists so tightly that her veins in them bulged. The ruthlessness in her eyes seemed capable of piercing a few holes through Pei Ge, but the latter simply ignored her and continued heading to her room.

Pei Ge closed the door once she was inside her room, and her body slumped against it. She could not fathom her actual importance in the man’s heart. He had never thought of hurting her, but he had already brutally disheartened her that her whole body had turned numb and the pain was so intense that she could no longer feel it.

Clear tears streamed down her face, and the red marks on her palms became frightening to look at due to her sudden use of force. She did not know that she cared this much, just like how the man promised to care for her.

Qu Jingwan heard the sound of Pei Ge closing the door from the living room and sat on the sofa again. Looking at the image of the doctor’s diagnosis on the laptop screen, which was next to her, she felt the mounting importance of telling Ji Ziming’s mother that that woman was not actually pregnant.

She ran up to the older woman when she saw her walk in while holding the watering can. Nonetheless, upon seeing the man following behind her, the intense glow in her eyes dissipated, and she could not say the words which were on the tip of her tongue.

Madam Ji could see that she was not her usual self, so she asked, “Are you alright?”

She shook her head. “N-Nothing much; I saw that Pei Ge wasn’t in a good mood, so I asked her how she was, but she’s unwilling to say anything.”

“She probably had a small fight with Ziming; it’s alright.”

“Hey, you can’t argue with her. The doctor already said that a pregnant lady’s emotions are sensitive and can affect the baby in her stomach.” She pretended to have specially consulted with a gynecologist over this as she lectured him.

The man shot her an icy stare, and she zipped her mouth instantly.

“I know.” He looked at her coldly, and his icy voice seemed to have come from an empty tunnel. “Miss Qu doesn’t need to fret over my and Pei Ge’s matters. Thanks for your kindness; I appreciate it.”

“I-I just want to help you in any way that I can.”

She lowered her head, and the grievances in her eyes made his mother’s heart hurt.

“How can you always treat Jingwan like this? What did she do wrong this time?” Madam Ji defended the lady, and upon seeing him behaving indifferently, she started doubting whether he was her son or not.
