“One can only term it as helping when others require the help; if not, it’s just senseless meddling in others’ affairs. It’s obvious that I don’t need your help.” Ji Ziming lowered his head to look at the lady. The aloofness in his eyes was akin to a mountain covered in snow, which had accumulated for thousands of years. “Miss Qu, are you thinking that I am weak to the point of needing a woman’s help?”

“I-I… I don’t mean it that way. To me, you’re the most dauntless man. Why would I think that you’re incapable? It’s just that Pei Ge is pregnant right now, so besides the three children, she’s one more person needing our care. Of course, I hope that you’ll always be well and the Ji Group will continue to thrive in the future…”

Qu Jingwan tried to justify herself, but she had no clue the man had seen through her lies long ago, and all these were merely putting up a show for his mother.

“Enough. Stop speaking. If you say anything further, do you believe that I’ll kick you out of this house?” His eyes darkened as he shot her a slightly vicious glare.

“Aiya! Son, what are you saying? What did she do to you? In order to join the company, she’s diligently studying about it. Are you treating her fairly by doing this?” His mother hurriedly pushed him away, as though afraid of him skinning the lady alive right before her.

“You want to join the company?” His deep eyes darkened again, and this lady showed an aggrieved look, just like a wife in ancient times who had committed a mistake.

“Auntie said that Pei Ge is pregnant, so she can’t work in the meantime. That’s why I—”

“Is the Ji Group somewhere you can join as you pleased?” His ruthless tone and chilly aura were unleashed all at once.

“I… I only wanted to share some of your burdens. Am I wrong for wanting to do this?” Qu Jingwan mustered up her courage from god knew where and looked right into his chilly eyes. The dejection in her voice squeezed his mother’s heart. “Son, I merely wanted her to shoulder some of your burdens; must you do this to me?”

“Only you yourself know best whether it’s really sharing my burdens or having some ulterior motives. I’m really curious about the last time in the hotel where you—”

“I shan’t go then! Can you just stop treating me like this? I’m human and my heart can hurt, too.” Looking at her woeful look, along with the tears streaming down from her face, the man became surer that she was conniving and should not be looked down on.

“Jingwan, come here; let’s not talk to him anymore. We’ll return to our rooms first. Don’t be scared; I’ve got your back. I don’t believe that I have no voice in that company.”

“Auntie, don’t make things difficult for him. I know that he has his difficulties he’s unwilling to share, so we must understand him, too.”

“You’re just too kindhearted. He’s treating you like this, yet you’re still speaking up for him.”

Madam Ji hugged the lady and supported her upstairs. Seeing that she did not have a complaint about her son’s aloofness and viciousness, her heart could not help but ache for her. This was what their family owed this lady, so she would definitely have her join the company.

Not far away, Ji Ziming heard his mother comfort the lady, and his palms began to become sweaty. What would happen if that lady joined his company? Earlier, he was about to mention that incident where Qu Jingwan had drugged him at that hotel, but she quickly interrupted him. It was obvious that, in this family, the person she dared not displease was his mother.

Unfortunately, this snake was being doted on by his mother so much so that she was placed above Pei Ge.

He fished out his phone and dialed a number. The call was picked up in a second, and the voice transmitted over sounded familiar.

“Have you found out who Qu Jingwan met in the hotel?”

“Sir, not yet, but there are some traces left behind. The CCTV was tampered with, and I already hired a technician to recover the erased files. It requires some time, so please give us a few days.”

“Sure. Tell me how many days you need.”

He pressed coldly as he urgently needed an answer.

“Two days. I’ll give you an answer in two days’ time. If I don’t have an answer for you by then, please feel free to punish me.”

He looked around with a cold gaze. “Give me an answer two days later, and if there’s none, resign on your own.”

“Thanks, sir.”

The busy tone rang; he had hung up long ago. He looked in the direction of the staircase. Pei Ge had not left her room once ever since she alighted from the car. Ji Ziming could not help but get worried as he looked in the direction of her room.

In the room, the woman was sitting on the bed and preparing her clothes for shower when the man opened the door and walked in. He looked at her with his cold eyes and pulled her into his embrace immediately.

His low, electrifying voice rang. “How are you?”

“What? I want to take a shower right now, so are you leaving?” The woman held her clothes and did not hug him back. Instead, she asked composedly, “What’s wrong with you?”

He looked up, and when their eyes met, he seemed to have heard the sound of fireworks setting off. “I love you.”

Pei Ge widened her eyes. She initially thought that he would tell her about Huang Zhian, but he turned out to be making a heartfelt confession.

She stared dazedly, and when he saw the clothes in the woman’s hands, he frowned. “You’re showering?”

“Mhm.” She nodded.

“Alright, then; let’s shower together.” He curled his lips as he looked craftily at his woman, who was as dumbstruck as a wooden chicken. He took the clothes from her and said, “You don’t have my pajamas in your room, so you shan’t wear pajamas, too.”

“Wh-What; Ziming, you—”

Before she could finish speaking, she was carried by the man to the bathroom.

Inside the bathroom with glass walls, the two bared their bodies to each other. Not long after, he carried the woman wrapped in the towel out and walked to the bed. It was a night of passion for the couple, and the two only stopped when morning came.

Ji Ziming was aroused from his sleep in the morning by his ringing phone. He frowned as he took the phone, which was on the side table; it was a call from He Yun.

Once the call got through, the secretary’s voice sounded unusually excited. “Sir, the fish took the bait.”

“Why are you calling so early just because it took the bait? Are you looking for death?!” He hollered on the phone. Lying beside him was the woman, whose arm was wrapped around his abdomen. “Who’s calling this early in the morning?”
