It was ten o’ clock in the morning on Sunday, the day of the auction. The auction was to be held on the corner of C road although it wasn’t a traditional style auction that you might see in the real world. Here you didn’t hold up a card or shout out your bid but instead the merchandise was lined up and you used an artifact terminal to place your bid. After you bid you wait until the auction is over and if you have the highest bid then you’d be allowed to purchase the items.
When I played the game I used the auction exclusively to sell items. The items that were put up for sale were normally very expensive and often well over the normal list price. If you wanted to buy from the auction you needed a [merchant] character otherwise the auction might just bankrupt you. Although sometimes the items that were put up for sale here could only be obtained at the auction.
That and sometimes extremely rare items were sold at the auctions. Players often used it to find items that they couldn’t otherwise find in a drop. Items like advanced job change tickets and door keys were often bought at auction. Although these items could be dropped by bosses and many players opted to play bosspop to get them, some players didn’t have the time to grind boss kills. As such although it was expensive the auction took the form of a work around for these items. Although you have to put in some work to some extent otherwise you would end up going bankrupt.
Although the auction can be used as a good place to earn money you can’t just list whatever you want. The number of items you can put up for sale depends on your guild rank, as an F rank guild we can only put up a single item for sale every week. The auction does this because they prefer the items from high ranking guilds that are hard to get rather than have a ton of low value items from low ranked guilds. This is because the items that F rank guilds can get their hands on are often sold at a fixed price in the shops anyway.
Today there were a total of six of us that had come, Me, Hannah, Ciara, Rana, Lulu and Celstin. It seemed that Ester had decided to go to the dungeon with Rika and Kahlua so she wasn’t with us today.
“This is the auction site? It’s different from what I expected.”
It seemed like even Rana had expected a normal style auction.
“If they presented the items one by one for everyone to bid on then everyone would have to delay their trip to the dungeon until after they were able to bid on the item that they wanted. “
The auction was only open on sundays and items weren’t brought in until 10am the day of so no one knew what was up for auction until then. However if it was a normal auction most people wouldn’t even bother with it and would just go to the dungeon like normal. For the players the development team put in an automatic bid function, this allowed the player to make a single bid and then head off to the dungeon. Then if another bid was made that was above your bid the system would automatically change your bid to be higher. It’s a little selfish but I wish that the school notebook that was given to us had a function that allowed it to interact with the auction, I wanted to go to the dungeon.
Although when you think about it, since the terminal had the function of auto-bidding it made the auctions kind of dull. Maybe I should join a normal auction one day?
“Zephyrus? Is this the right price? It looks like there is one too many zeroes.”
Hannah was shaking her head as she indicated one of the products.
“It’s correct. The price of items at the auction tend to be higher priced since they have a wide collection of rare materials, drops, and things people have created.”
“Can I put my alchemy items up for sale?”
“Well that’s a bit of a ways off, it wouldn’t really be feasible unless it was something created from upper class dungeon materials.”
“Upper class dungeon materials…..”
Hannah stared back at the item she had asked about as if she’d developed a new understanding.
“Sir Zephyrus, The item had been put up for auction.”
“Thank you Celestin, you’re a big help.”
Celestin had come here before the rest of us in order to put the item up for sale. The initial listing price was 100,000 mir which was only one tenth of it’s worth. I was looking forward to seeing how much it would sell for and hoped it would at least hit the 1 million mark.
“I love it!”
Lulu had ran over to the display case that held them item we had put up for sale? Was she imagining it being turned into something for her?
“That stuffed animal, I must show it love!”
Oh, apparently there was a stuffed animal around our own product…. As expected of a self proclaimed stuffed animal lover.
“Big brother Zephyrus, I want this. I love it! Please!”
“Hmm? That….What!?”
“What’s wrong Zephyrus?”
When I saw the pair of stuffed animals she had indicated I nearly fell over. They appeared to be hugging each other and one had angel wings with a halo while the other had horns and bat wings. It was known as the angelic demon stuffed animal.
