Qin Zhaolu's eyes widened in shock. She could not understand under what circumstances Luo Caihong could leave her child behind. It was even more puzzling for her to have sealed the child's power.
If the child had merely been left behind, then it would be one thing, but sealing his talent meant that whoever had done it wanted him to live a life of a mortal.
A mother would never do this to her child, as a mortal's lifespan was limited, so Qin Zhaolu's face turned ugly at the only possibility she could think of.
Luo Caihong was not the one who had left the child here; it was likely to be the Luo family who had banished it to this realm for the sake of living a short and mortal life.
The more she thought about it, the more furious she became, and suddenly her hand slapped the trunk of a tree by her side.
The tree did not break into two. Instead, it trembled before it turned into a pile of sawdust. The strength used in that simple slap was so profound and overwhelming that even Jiang Yao narrowed his eyes.
It seemed that the background that Luo Xiao held was rather extraordinary?
"Okay, dearest, do not worry." After turning her anger on the tree, Qin Zhaolu slowly calmed down. "I am going back home, and I will do my utmost to get some information as to how you ended here. I will also try and find your parents, but you cannot come with me.
"You are currently too weak, and if I bring you with me, you will just be harmed. When you reach the apex of this realm, you can ascend to my world. If I find your parents, I will naturally come and visit you before then."
Luo Xiao looked at the woman who looked at him with eyes full of maternal love. He had never experienced this feeling before, and a trace of warmth flowed in his heart, causing him to break into a brilliant smile as he nodded his head.
He could feel that this woman truly wanted the best for him, and while he was quite confused as to the story behind his origin, he could not help but feel gratified that at least this woman was so positive towards him.
Jiang Yao could see that Luo Xiao was somewhat confused due to the sudden news. His entire world had been turned around, causing him to feel a little unbelievable.
Qin Zhaolu looked longingly at Luo Xiao. She felt that he was too adorable. She could see the innocence in his eyes, and the undisguisable beauty, and she could not help but feel worried about his future.
She glanced at Jiang Yao, who had stood by his side from the beginning, and then she could not help but say, "You have to protect him."
Jiang Yao could see the solemnity in her expression, and he, too, was solemn as he nodded his head. "Do not worry," he assured her, "Xiaoxiao is my most important person. While I will not interfere with his growth, I will ensure that he will not die."
Jiang Yao could not promise that he would ensure that Luo Xiao did not get harmed, as that would be unrealistic. Luo Xiao had such a strong desire to improve himself, and to do that, he would have to go through hell and high waters.
Jiang Yao also approved of this. While he was able to protect Luo Xiao most of the time, what if a situation occurred where he would have to rely on himself? He had to have strength in this brutal world, so Jiang Yao could only, at most, guarantee that his little lover would not die.
Qin Zhaolu understood the implications in his words, and the eyes she used to look at Jiang Yao became much more approving.
It seemed that the two of them were in a serious relationship.
Qin Zhaolu took a step forward and pulled Luo Xiao into her warm embrace. She hugged him tightly as if he was a priceless treasure, and her restless heart slowly returned to calm.
"I will come back one day," she promised, before she slowly vanished from the forest with no trace.
Seeing her sudden disappearance, Luo Xiao could not help but frown as he looked into the bowl in front of him again. The slightly bigger drop of blood was real. The two droplets had merged and become one.
He could not fully comprehend everything that had happened in such a short amount of time, so he stood still for quite some time, with his brows furrowed, and deep in thought.
Jiang Yao did not urge him to move on; instead, he patiently waited for Luo Xiao to straighten up and gather his thoughts.
Suddenly he sighed. He shook his head and looked at the tree crowns above, which were blocking the sky.
His eyes, which had been muddled with confusion before, were suddenly bright and clear.
"I do not need to overthink," he said to Jiang Yao, as he knew that the Seventh Demon Prince had been waiting for him.
"While my father might not be my biological parent, he will always be a father to me. He did everything for my sake, and he always cared for me. He even died to examine the danger, not allowing me to ever get close to anything even remotely dangerous."
Seeing the determined expression of Luo Xiao, Jiang Yao nodded his head and caressed his hair. "You have to be true to yourself. Blood relations are not everything, but do not be quick to instantly abandon the others. They might have had difficulties too. However, your adoptive father is a man worthy of respect."
