There were many towns and villages close to the Beast Ridge, but if you traveled around half a day, you would also be able to encounter cities. These places were often more bustling with life and busy than the towns and villages, and they would contain a myriad of branches from the various merchant groups within the continent.
These stores focused on purchasing the resources that had been brought back from the Beast Ridge by mercenaries and adventurers, and then sent them to various destinations throughout the entire continent.
Many treasures would appear in these towns, and while most of them ended in the hands of these reputable stores, others were exchanged privately.
Experts from all over the continent would travel to these cities with the purpose of finding specific treasures, and these cities had fish and dragons mixing together.
Even the poorest and most humble beggar on the corner of the street could be a real expert in disguise, so everyone was being treated cautiously and with respect.
Ridgeflower City was one amongst these cities that were spread around the Beast Ridge. It was just before noon, and the streets that led through the city gates were already bustling with life, as many returned from their missions with more or less success.
Amongst the groups that were walking towards the city were two remarkable figures. Most of the experts present were exhausted. Some wore tattered clothes, while others were injured, but most had a travel-worn appearance.
Only two among the crowd stood out. They were two handsome figures. One was alluring and devilish, while the other was beautiful and innocent.
The contrast that the two figures gave was simply enough to cause most to become stunned and lose their focus. They were walking hand in hand, and their tranquil and refined aura was extremely rare in this area, where mercenaries were fighting every day for the sake of survival.
It was just before noon, and the air was crisp and pleasant. The dew on the grass had evaporated, and the cold of the night had been dispelled, leaving a few gentle rays from the sun to warm the picture.
The two figures were Luo Xiao and Jiang Yao, who were unhurriedly making their way to the city gates. While they did not hurry, no one complained about their speed, and everyone who looked at them had a dazed, and slightly enchanted, expression in their eyes.
The two would exchange a few words from time to time, and a smile would spread on the younger one's face.
The breeze-like laughter was refreshing and gentle, making everyone feel as if they had been spellbound, but their reactions did not influence the two as they made their way through the crowd.
While they were not rushing, it did not take them long before they reached the city gate. Here, guards were keeping a watch, ensuring order and peace was maintained.
One did not need to pay an entrance fee to enter Ridgeflower City. While this was the custom in most cities, in order to avoid beggars and others to take refuge within the walls, the situation was different here.
This place had grown due to the prosperity of the Beast Ridge, and those who came here had a purpose. Although a few beggars and poor citizens were living in the city, there were not many.
This also meant that neither Luo Xiao nor Jiang Yao had to stand in a lengthy and time-wasting queue. The crowd of people entered the city in an orderly and calm manner. No one was pushing others, and everyone had respectfully given the others space. Even the ones who looked the most embarrassed in their ruined clothes and dusty appearances were shown an equal amount of respect, which made Luo Xiao's eyes glisten with brilliance.
One of the guards was observing Luo Xiao and Jiang Yao with some surprise as they had gotten closer. He had not seen many who could appear so clean and neat after visiting the Beast Ridge, so he made a mental note that their strength was not to be belittled, and that he should treat them well.
Even so, his facial expression did not change as he made a gesture to invite them into the city. While these two were clearly showing their strength, the guard was not one to judge.
He knew that there were crouching tigers and hidden dragons everywhere.
"Let us find an inn," Jiang Yao said as looked at Luo Xiao. He could see the excitement in the younger man's face as he looked at the bustling streets and plentiful storefronts that were everywhere.
Luo Xiao nodded his head absentmindedly. He knew that they had to check and sort their rewards from the time in the cave. He had also planned on rebuilding his body.
While it was impossible to create a new body, he could still shed his mortal body by allowing every cell to be reborn.
This could significantly increase the body's strength and potential, and build a much sturdier foundation for the future.
He had lived a harsh life for many years, where he had been plagued by disease and weakness. His body was frail, and unable to hold much power, but while he was not much in a hurry before, he now understood that it was more important than he had initially assumed.
He did not know why he had been dropped in the mortal world alongside his adoptive father, but he did not need much brain to realize that someone had been targeting him.
If he wished to live, he would have to become stronger. If he wanted to stay by Jiang Yao's side, then he would have to prove his worth with actions, while also having the strength to face off against the experts who had sent him here in the first place.
