Chapter 6 - I have been pregnant with my son for two years. (3)

A man was sitting in a chair by the window.

He had on a shirt with light golden pattern and its collar was opened up slightly. His shoulders were broad and his sleeves were rolled up slightly to the middle of his lower arms. His lower arms that were visible below his sleeves were smooth like an art piece.

In a high-end restaurant where everybody else was carefully observing the appropriate way to behave, he was the only one who sat there casually: half leaned back in the chair with one of his leg over the other and his wrist casually dangling from it.

Looking at the scenery that everybody else couldn’t get enough of, he looked as though he was just looking at his own boring garden from his own study.

He was born with his extravagance.

Even the way he looked from behind was not something an unrefined parvenu riches could mimic in their life time.

Lin Nantian recollected herself. She was about to smile but the man seemed to have sensed something and looked over before she could look away.

Their eyes met.

Lin Nantian reflexively held her breath.

That person’s profile was bathed in light.

His fluffy black hair dangled down in a messy sense of beauty. His nose was tall and he was wearing a rounded, golden framed spectacles with a very thin gold chain dangling down on one side.

The gold chain made his skin appeared pale. So pale that it looked cold even under the warm sun.

His features were stunning, but also cold.

If the first look was indulgence, then meeting the man’s eyes had snapped her back to reality: his eyes looked tender behind the lens but there was also an extreme feel of coldness and distance within that tenderness.

Under the illusion of tenderness was the air of rejection, allowing nobody to get close to him.

But he seemed to be… smiling right now?

Lin Nantian was baffled.

Before she could give it any more thought, the music in the restaurant stopped for some unknown reasons and then she heard a familiar, languid girl’s voice coming from behind the curtain behind the man:

“I have already said so much, if Mr. Josh still didn’t want to give up…”

Josh held back his laugh, “Then you will?”

Gu Nian, “No, there’s something else that I haven’t shared with you yet.”

Josh, “What is it?”

Gu Nian, “I have a son.”

Gu Nian, “I’ve been carrying him for two years now.”

Gu Nian, “Are you sure you will be okay with that?”

Josh, “?”

“……”

The gold chain shook a little and a dim light reflected quickly off of it.

The man looked away and the smile on him deepened.

Gu Nian was cruelly dragged out of the hotel by Lin Nantian’s evil claws and was bathed in her anger all the way back to her place.

The two of them grew up together and Lin Nantian had always been taking care of Gu Nian who was more fragile than others her age.

Lin Nantian strongly believed that had her family did not come into wealth when she was a sophomore in high school and moved to a different city, she would for sure had attended the same college as Gu Nian.

Then Gu Nian would never had dropped out of school for some unknown reasons and still be single at age 22.

Lin Nantian was so mad everytime she thought about that.

With Gu Nian’s dole-like eyes, small nose, cat-like lips, and that innocent green tea beauty look, if only she somewhat wanted to, she wouldn’t still be single right now.

Lin Nantian angrily pulled over a chair and plopped down on it, she was blunt and interrogative.

“Give me a reason.”

“……”

Gu Nian had a feeling that if she failed to provide Lin Nantian with a reason that she found acceptable today, she just might die today.

She immediately put on a docile look. “I only said that because I wanted to consider the issue from both of our standpoints.”

Lin Nantian, “Whose standpoints?”

Gu Nian, “One was Josh’s. He didn’t even share his real name, so obviously he really didn’t want to have too much to do with me. I figured I’d just be nice and give him a reasonable excuse.”

Lin Nantian went silent for a little while, “What’s the other one?”

Gu Nian, “Myself.”

Lin Nantian, “?”
