Chapter 7 - I have been pregnant with my son for two years. (4)

Gu Nian fished out her cellphone, opened up her calendar, and showed it to Lin Nantian. “Starting next Monday, that’s two days from now, I will be heading to a filming location out of town. I really don’t have time to get into a relationship right now.”

Lin Nantian looked over at Gu Nian’s cellphone as she talked.

Sure enough, there was an entry of “Demon filming” on there.

Lin Nantian frowned after she saw that. “I thought all you need to do is to stay home and write your screenplay, especially when the production team is going to use that stupid Zhuo Yixuan as the screenwriter by name. So why do you need to go join the production team?”

Gu Nian, “It was a last-minute request from the director’s team. We don’t have a choice.”

Lin Nantian, “Didn’t you just hand in your screenplay not too long ago? I have never seen such a demanding job… with your qualifications, there are so many other careers that you can pursue. Why do you have to pick this chitty one?”

Gu Nian waved her hand humbly, “What kind of qualifications are you speaking of?”

Lin Nantian, “Are you kidding me? You were valedictorian in our city’s college entrance examination and were accepted into the university well over their requirement. Then you grandly…”

Gu Nian, “dropped out.”

Lin Nantian, “……”

It was a slip on Gu Nian’s part and she only recalled that that was Lin Nantian’s sore spot after she had finished saying it.

She tried to do damage control. “Luckily I enjoy my current job a lot even though it is a lot of work for very little money. I feel happy and fulfilled.”

Lin Nantian stared at her with dead-fish eyes.

Gu Nian looked back at her innocently.

Lin Nantian, “Happy and fulfilled?”

Gu Nian, “Mmhmm!”

Lin Nantian, “Okay, then let me ask you this.”

Gu Nian, “Ask away.”

Lin Nantian, “The super hit song Enlighten Me by someone named Mang Zhi from two years ago, was that your work?”

Gu Nian didn’t even bat an eye. “No. Didn’t you read about it online? It was the work of beauty screenwriter Zhuo Yixuan with the pen name Under the Bluish Light.”

Lin Nantian stared at her intensely, her look fierce. “You have been using Meng Zhi as your pen name since junior high school. Do I look stupid to you?”

Gu Nian gave her an innocent look, “Coincidence.”

Lin Nantian, “Will you swear on that?”

Gu Nian, “But of course.”

Lin Nantian, “Okay, then, if you have lied about anything today, your favorite little idol Luo Xiu will never see the light of day…”

Gu Nian almost dropped down to her knees.

Holding Lin Nantian’s hand in hers, Gu Nian said in her most sincere voice, “Please don’t. We shall not get the future generations involved.”

“……”

Lin Nantian was about to drop dead from anger.

“Gu Nian, I’ve mailed off your package this evening. Here’s the recei….”

Jiang Xiaoqing pushed opened the door and paused on her way.

Her look lingered over Gu Nian’s hand that were passionately holding onto Lin Nantian’s for a few seconds and she asked cautiously, “Is this a bad time?”

“Dang!”

Gu Nian joked about it as she took over the receipt and placed it on her table.

Right when she was about to turn back around, she stopped all of a sudden.

“Xiaoqing.”

“Hmm?”

“Are you sure you’ve mailed my package off?”

“Yeah, didn’t I just hand you the receipt?”

“But if you have mailed it off…”

Gu Nian picked up the box with her handwritten notebook inside and turned around. “Then what is this?”

Jiang Xiaoqing paused a little. “You mean the notebook that you’ve mentioned is inside this box?”

Gu Nian stiffened. “So what exactly did you mail?”

Jiang Xiaoqing rubbed her hands together innocently as she slowly pointed toward the left side of the desk. “Didn’t you have a pretty notebook over there with a tie over it?”

Gu Nian whipped around but the corner of the desk was already empty.

Recalling the notebook that she had forgotten to put back into the drawer, Gu Nian looked like she had just been struck by lightning.

Lin Nantian, who observed the entire exchange, finally asked after Gu Nian had sent Jiang Xiaoqing on her way, “What was there before?”

Gu Nian, her voice weak, “My essays.”

“?”

Gu Nian turned around.

“It’s full name was Mang Zhi’s Son Raising Diary.”

Lin Nantian, “…………..?”
