Chapter 17 - “Do not let go of him! Or I shall call the police!” (2)

Gu Nian chose to ignore Jiang Xiaoqing’s tease and, with an emotional heart and trembling hand, she edited on her cellphone the message that she was going to send to her precious son.

After editing the message many times, Gu Nian finally send one out that wasn’t too different than her very first version—

“Hi, this is Gu Nian from the screenwriter team. I would like to see if you are free tonight. If it works for you, I’d like to discuss with you matters regarding the script and the role.”

One minute later.

Nothing.

Two minutes later.

Nothing.

Five minutes later…

Still nothing.

Gu Nian shriveled back to her old self. Placed her cellphone next to her pillow, she tried to suppress her desire to stare at her phone continuously.

She walked over to the table. “I have an idea about the new role. Let’s talk among ourselves the plasticity of this character.”

“Already?”

Both Jiang Xiaoqing and Qin Yuanyuan were surprised.

The girl standing next to the table clenched her fist lightly and said, “My son is my best motivation.”

Jiang Xiaoqing busted out laughing.

Qin Yuanyuan laughed too and brought her notebook over the to table. “Okay, tell us what kind of a role is this?”

Once entering into her work mode, Gu Nian summoned up her energy and put on her serious look. She opened up her 2-in1 tablet holder and the colored character chart appeared on the screen.

Gu Nian said, “I have given this some thought. To insert a brand-new character with no foreshadow or character development at this point of the filming progress is unrealistic.”

Jiang Xiaoqing poked her head in between the other two and said, “Yeah, I have been pulling my hair out and still haven’t been able to come up with how to insert a new character with that much screen time.”

Gu Nian blinked and smile, “That why I have this new idea.”

“Hmm?”

Using her stylus pen, Gu Nian casually drew a circle on the screen.

She turned to look at the other two and said, “Do you still remember that in the original setting of the script, the female lead ran into the demonized youtanghua in her previous life?”

Jiang Xiaoqing thought about it for two second and unfurrowed her brows. “I do! Youtanghua arrived on earth with buddha and represented Buddhism. It has the heart of a buddha but became demonized after it blocked unfortunate event for the female lead.”

Qin Yuanyuan nodded as well. “I remember that as well. If it wasn’t for it, the female lead would not have been able to reincarnate.”

Jiang Xiaoqing, “Are you thinking about turning it into a human instead? But all of the previous life group scenes had already been filmed. I don’t think the filming crew would be happy to refilm any parts of it.”

Gu Nian, “No, we won’t be adding anything about the previous life. We will add his reincarnation.”

Jiang Xiaoqing, “Oh?”

Gu Nian, “The youtanghua who was demonized for the female lead reincarnated into a human.”

There was a few seconds of silence around the table.

Jiang Xiaoqing, “Oh darn. That doesn’t sound half bad.”

Qin Yuanyuan, “The sacred item of Buddhism became demonized for love and possessed human desires – that is not a bad role at all.”

Gu Nian felt more relaxed with the buy in of her two teammates. “Okay, then let’s move forward with this.”

“Okay.”Gu Nian, “We need to be very detailed about this role. You two research on this and I’ll start working on the details about this role.”

Jiang Xiaoqing, “Okay. Okay. Do you need me to recommend you some songs related to the three teachings to help you with ideas?”

Gu Nian did not look up. “There’s one that I’ve been using on a regular basis.”

Jiang Xiaoqing, “Oh yeah? Which is it? Recommend it to me, quickly.”

Gu Nian, “Nilakantha Dharani.”

Jiang Xiaoqing, “……”

Qin Yuanyuan, “……”

Jiang Xiaoqing wiped her face. “Allllriiighty then.”

Qin Yuanyuan interjected. “If it’s something Buddhism-related, Enlighten Me is the best one out there.”

Jiang Xiaoqing turned her head and also jump straight up into the air. “Yes! Yes! Yes! I strongly recommend Enlighten Me. That’s the one I have in mind as well! Master Mengzhi is the best!”

Gu Nian paused.

Qin Yuanyuan hesitated for a little bit then, leaned further over the table, said, “Speaking of, there are rumors that the Zhuo Yixuan, the screenwriter in name for Demons, is Mengzhi. Do you think that could be true?”
