Chapter 35 - For the first time in his life, he was distracted in the middle of his meditation. (3)

Luo Xiu nodded nonchalantly, “Never heard of it before.”

The little assistant, “……”

The little assistant sighed and grumbled softly. “Look at you. You are almost as out of touch with the material world as my grandpa.”

Luo Xiu smiled. His look was gentle but none of those reached his eyes.

The little assistant, “I take it that you haven’t heard about the latest gossip among the production team either then.”

“Hmm.”

Not noticing Luo Xiu’s lack of interest, the little assistant went on excitedly. “Everybody is saying that the beauty screenwriter Zhuo Yixuan is Mengzhi from before!”

“……”

Luo Xiu’s look flickered.

A few seconds later, his lips curved upward and his eyes refocused. The man lifted up the dark cover notebook into the air. His long and slender fingers, under the reflection of the light and the cover, looked almost like a icy cold kind of white.

“This Mengzhi?”

The little assistant nodded frantically. “If this notebook really belonged to Mengzhi, then the beauty screenwriter is a loyal fan of yours. Over the last two years, she had been mailing you stuff every single month. That passion…”

“No.”

“What?” Interrupted, the little assistant looked up, dazed.

“Zhuo Yixuan is not this Mengzhi.”

“??”

The little assistant remained dazed for quite a while. “But Zhuo Yixuan never denied it herself. If she isn’t Mengzhi, then she was pretending to be her… Wait, no. You’ve never even heard of Enlighten Me before. How would you even know that it’s not her?”

Luo Xiu lowered his eyes, reopened the notebook, and glanced over the first entry once again.

When he clearly saw the line “Mom will always stand there in front of you”, a rare feeling of irritation and helplessness crossed his eyes.

He drummed his fingers on the notebook and snickered lightly. “Zhuo Yixuan would not talk like it. To be exact…”

The little assistant, “What?”

Luo Xiu looked up. “No normal person would ever talk like this.”

The little assistant cocked his head and agreed with him. “Hmm, you are right. That Zhuo Yixuan looked like a spoiled brat. Definitely she did not strike me as someone who would talk like this.”

“Right. Even Gu Nian is more likely than her.”

“…..?”

For a few seconds there the little assistant thought he had misheard. When he finally recollected himself from the pair of tender and cold eyes, he asked in surprise, “Gu Nian? The little screenwriter? … this is the first time I’ve heard you bringing someone up voluntarily. That sure doesn’t happen every day.”

Luo Xiu paused for a quick second.

The little assistant asked, “But why do you say Gu Nian was more likely? Has she said anything like that to you?”

Luo Xiu still remained silent.

The little assistant laughed. “Looks like she had left quite an impression with you, huh? Else you wouldn’t have mentioned her out of the blue.”

Luo Xiu finally reacted to what the little assistant was saying. He looked up and said casually, “I’ve already forgotten.”

“?”

Luo Xiu did not elaborate. He put the notebook down and sent him on his way. “I’m about to go to bed. You should go now.”

The little assistant acknowledged him awkwardly and remembered something before he turned to leave. “You still do your Taoism meditation before you go to bed?”

“Yes.”

The little assistant, “I am very curious. How are you able to clear your mind? Every time that I have tried it, there were always random thoughts in my mind.”

Luo Xiu stood up, “I am used to it.”

“Oh? Used to what?”

“I don’t care about much so there aren’t a lot to think about.”

The little assistant, “……”

The little assistant sighed and said, “Okay, I get it. I am still very attached to this material world. Alright, I should head out and let you rest.”

Luo Xiu did not respond to his statement.

The little assistant said when he reached the door, “I’ll turn off the foyer light for you so you can meditate.”

“Okay.”

The room door closed.

And the room returned to its original silence.

Luo Xiu sat back into his chair, relaxed, and closed his eyes.

The awareness of I started to dissipate, be destroyed, as though blending into the darkness. The heartbeat and the sound of breathing also became quieter and quieter.

His consciousness became light and transparent. When it was about to float into the endless darkness, an image abruptly entered into his mind—

The afternoon sun, the antiquated stairs that smelled like rosin, the mottled walls, and the particles floating in the air.

And…

The girl’s bright and tender smile that was right up next to him.

[Because, nothing is more important than protecting you.]

“-----!”

Luo Xiu abruptly opened his eyes.

For the first time in his life, he was distracted in the middle of his meditation.
