Chapter 57 -  “What I am getting at is that, since she refused to film the scene, you can take her place.” (1)

Perhaps the emotions within Luo Xiu’s eyes were too rich, too deep, and too unfamiliar, even Gu Nian second guessed herself. She reflexively took a couple steps forward and was finally able to see the man outside of the conference room clearly with the remaining sunlight coming in through the window.

Clear, fresh, uniquely handsome features, and the light and tender eyes beneath the thin lens with the gold chain. It was definitely Luo Xiu.

Was that an illusion just a moment ago then?

Gu Nian walked up to him hesitantly. “Mr. Luo Xiu?”

His eyes flickered a little and he nodded. “Miss Gu.”

“What are you doing here?”

“The director team had me come over.”

As though something had occurred to her, Gu Nian turned around angrily and faced Assistant Director Lin who just walked up behind her with a guilty look. “Didn’t you just tell me that this isn’t set in stone yet?”

Assistant Director Lin cleared his throat and said, “Perhaps that was exactly why Director Geng asked Luo Xiu to come over. So they can talk it over.”

“Talk it over.” Gu Nian repeated his words. There was anger in her dark, deer-like eyes.

Given that Luo Xiu was standing right there, she didn’t directly speak her mind.

Seeing that there was no more point in trying to stop her, Assistant Director Lin shook his head and asked the little assistant standing behind Luo Xiu, “Did the person who went to get you tell you the reason we asked for you?”

Luo Xiu, “No.”

Assistant Director Lin parted his lips to say something but, after he looked into Luo Xiu’s dark brown eyes, his eyes flickered with some concerned and he turned to Gu Nian and said, “Let me go and give Director Geng a heads-up – you can loop Luo Xiu in as well.”

Assistant Director Lin knocked on the door and went inside before Gu Nian responded to him.

The door to the conference room closed unfeelingly. The paint of the door was shiny and one could almost see one’s image on it.

The girl who was very angry just a minute ago was now dispirited from worries.

Gu Nian: …how could she euphemistically explain to her precious son that he had been “singled out by the female lead and refused to have intimate scenes with him” without hurting his feelings?

Her precious son was such a kind and gentle person. He must be devastated when he found out about it… …

Gu Nian’s brows could not have furrowed more. After struggling with it for a long while, Gu Nian turned around slowly and said, “Mr. Luo Xiu, it so happened that… Zong Shizi was not pleased with the scene where I had Yun Tan running into Ding Qiao again. She didn’t feel that the scene was necessary and had requested the director team to have the scene removed.”

Luo Xiu, “That’s the scene that we were going to film today?”

“…yes.”

Gu Nian carefully observed Luo Xiu’s reaction as she responded back to him. She saw him lowering his eyes and there was a look of understanding and self-mockery on him.

“It wasn’t the scene that she didn’t it; it was me, isn’t it?”

Gu Nian, “--- ? !”

Gu Nian waved her hands frantically. “No, no, no, no, no! That’s not it at all. It really is the scene that she didn’t care for. She, she, she even came and talked to me last night and questioned the rationality behind the scene and I……”

“Are you trying to lie to me also, Miss Gu?” asked Luo Xiu in a low voice.

Gu Nian stopped talking immediately and turned away.

The sun had set even more and the remaining light folded up into the beginning of the night. At the end of the sky, the dismal reddish orange dyed with the cloak of the night, looking a lot like the dim color in the bottom of those eyes.

Gu Nian’s tears welled up.

…oh, how her heart ached.

Her precious son had already been very nice and very well. He had worked very hard on learning his lines, practicing with her, filming into the middle of the night. This was such a rare opportunity for him and after all the malicious rumors about him being a vase or offering up s*xual favors, why did he have to suffer such an unfair treatment?

Suppressing her feeling of bitterness for him, Gu Nian clenched her fist and said, “Mr. Luo Xiu.”

Luo Xiu looked up at her.

He was taken aback a little by the girl’s seemingly reddened eyes. That very second, it was as though a needle had been stuck into the feigned emotions under his eyes and it was putting up its final struggle before it shattered.

Gu Nian failed to notice that. She looked up with her normally languid eyes and said in a very determine and serious tone. “I promise you I will fight for everything that should be rightfully yours. Anyone who wants to bully you will have to do so over my dead body.”

Luo Xiu’s eyes flickered a little. “… … Aren’t you worry about offending them?”

“If they were to be offended by me, then that boat had already sailed.”

Having said that, a bit of hesitation could be seen on Gu Nian. After some consideration, she finally gathered up her courage, took another step closer to Luo Xiu, and said in a low voice, “Besides, I have a trump card. You don’t need to worry about me, Mr. Luo Xiu.”
