Chapter 58 -  “What I am getting at is that, since she refused to film the scene, you can take her place.” (2)

“Trump card?”

“Mmhmm.” Gu Nian looked up, her deer-like eyes curved a little and she gave him a smile that couldn’t be more genuine. “I would not otherwise have asked Mr. Luo Xiu to use me at the cafeteria last time.”

“… …”

Luo Xiu was rarely interested in anyone else and definitely had never experienced an emotion called curiosity. But this time, looking at the spirited way that the girl was, he could clearly tell that what he was about to ask next had nothing to do with him putting up a fake front.

It was the real him genuinely wanting to learn more about this girl that was standing in front of him.

“What is this trump card of yours? Can you tell me?”

“?” His voice made Gu Nian turned around, surprised.

Luo Xiu lowered his eyes. His eyes, covered by his fine and dense eyelashes, seemed to be hiding a lot of different emotions within them. “I am very curious when Miss Gu mentioned it. Of course, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”

“I want to very much,” said Gu Nian as she thought about her Son-Raising Diary that had fallen into the hands of her “enemy” and let out a long and regretful sigh. “But now is not the right time.”

“That’s fine.”

“Besides, my trump card is tied to too many unpleasant memories. I’d prefer not have to use it if at all possible.”

The girl turned around and gave Luo Xiu a bright smile. “I hope that Mr. Luo Xiu will never learn about the dark sides and just remain the kind and gentle way that he is because I will be protecting you.”

“--- ---”

Luo Xiu was stunned.

The conference room door opened up coincidentally. Assistant Director Lin poked his head out and signaled Gu Nian with a look. “You can come inside now. Be careful with your word choice and don’t upset Director Geng again.”

“Okay. I will do my best,” replied Gu Nian as she turned slightly, covered up her mouth and reminded Luo Xiu in a low voice. “Mr. Luo Xiu, why don’t you stand behind me. Don’t worry about anything.”

“… …”

Gu Nian didn’t dare to waste any more time after she had finished talking. She walked inside the room directly. As she turned around, she had missed the deep and dim emotions that could no longer be concealed in those eyes when the man looked up through his fine hair.

Behind Gu Nian.

The little assistant looked from one of them to the other, dumbfounded. He only recollected himself after Luo Xiu had walked inside and gave his boss the most respectful look as he looked at him from behind…

Had he not been with Luo Xiu for the last two years and had learned about the terrible background behind Luo Xiu from catching bits and pieces in Sister Anna’s conversation with the others, he too would have been fooled by Luo Xiu’s reaction earlier.

With that acting skill, it was truly a shame that his boss had no intention in pursuing a career in the entertainment circle. Otherwise, he had very good potential to contend for the little golden man in the future.

The atmosphere inside the conference room was very awkward.

Geng Hongyu had obviously been angry at Zong Shizi and his face was still flushed. Hearing noises by the door, he stared over in that direction with a not-so-pleasant look.

Gu Nian could feel the hostility as soon as she stepped inside the room. She reflexively blocked in front of Luo Xiu like a mother hen protecting her chick.

Perhaps her motion was too obvious, Geng Hongyu noticed it immediately. “Gu Nian, what’s that look on you? Do you think I can eat him alive?”

Gu Nian, “……”

Quietly retracting her claws, Gu Nian struck back. “Good day, Director Geng.”

“No! Not good at all! Each and every single one of you tried to cause troubles for me. How could I be good?”

Geng Hongyu wanted to keep on shouting but he gave the man who walked in behind Gu Nian a scrupulous look.

Frowning, he weighted the risk of not knowing the background of this man and finally suppressed his anger. “Luo Xiu, we asked you to come over to talk about the scene that we had planned for tonight. We might make some changes to the plot and the lines of the bar scene. Worst case scenario, we might take it out completely. We will film the scene after we make our final decision.”

“Director Geng,” said Gu Nian, ignoring Assistant Director Lin who was trying to stop her with his look and before Luo Xiu could say anything. “May I ask the reasons behind major changes or deletion to the scene?”

Geng Hongyu frowned. “That has nothing to do with yo…”

Gu Nian: “This is a script by our screenwriter team and I am the primary screenwriter who had also completed the added parts on my own. Even if I don’t have the rights to make any decisions, I trust that I should at least have the rights to ask for the reasons behind it.”

Geng Hongyu looked displeased.

The air went silent for a few seconds as they looked at each other. Geng Hongyu finally frowned, looked away and at Assistant Director Lin. The message in his look was clear as day: Where did you find this tool from?
