Chapter 61 - “Em, I will… sit down and get myself familiar with it?” (2)
After standing there motionlessly for a few seconds, Zong Shizi recollected herself and she was shocked and enlightened.
She turned around and looked behind herself. The door to the conference room was shut and they could still hear some soft voices coming from the inside.
Recalling the little screenwriter who was standing in front of her fighting for Luo Xiu while trying to control her own anger, Zong Shizi felt very complicated.
She looked up and joked softly, “So it wasn’t the scene that Mr. Luo was objecting to; it was me. I didn’t think that there will be anyone who can pique Mr. Luo’s interesting. I am certainly envious of that.”
Luo Xiu glanced over at her. “Is that so?”
“… …”
Stunned by the coldness in that look, Zong Shizi’s smile froze.
Luo Xiu lowered his eyes. His voice was gentle and harmless. “Miss Zong is very smart and smart people tend to overthink at times.”
Zong Shizi was startled by his words. She would never again believe in this man who looked so gentle in appearance. She said seriously, “As much as a smart person might overthink, she would know to not to share anything that she shouldn’t.”
Luo Xiu nodded nonchalantly. “Okay.”
The light was still warm in the hallway but the darkness hidden in the shadows was enough to send chills down one’s spine.
Zong Shizi dared not stay any longer. She looked for an excuse and took off.
After Zong Shizi had left, the little assistant, who had been holding himself back the entire time couldn’t hold on any longer. “Brother Luo, what kind of cryptic message were you passing around with Zong Shizi.”
Luo Xiu casted him a glance emotionlessly.
The little assistant chuckled dryly. “I’m just curious is all. But this Zong Shizi is so respectful. She almost offended a bunch of people in the production team for you and she is still so respectful and friendly to you. No wonder she was so well-liked in this circle.”
“Do you think this is charity?”
“Huh?” The little assistant looked around in a daze. Then, something dawned on him. “You mean to say that she was only doing this because she or someone behind her had received certain benefits?”
“The tangible ones, the non-tangible ones, those they have already received, and those they will receive in the future… don’t everyone busy themselves for these benefits?”
Luo Xiu chuckled lightly, so gentle that it almost seemed like there was no sarcasm in what he had said at all.
“Even in the charity field, the operations behind it all is still vast and very likely with a lot of dirt hiding inside of it. That’s just human nature, regardless of the environment.”
The little assistant nodded as he listened. Then he couldn't help but chuckled. “If we all see things as clearly as you, then temples like Lin’an and Doaci would be overcrowded.”
Luo Xiu snickered.
Something occurred to the little assistant all of a sudden. “But there are always exceptions to the rules.”
“?”
The little assistant gestured toward the direction of the conference room door that was still closed and said, “Judging from how Screenwriter Gu had stood up for your today, isn’t she an exception to the rule?”
“… …”
“Any way I look at it, it doesn’t look like she knows of your real identity. So her motivation wasn’t benefits unless she’s after your bod…, ahem.”
The little assistant barely stopped himself in time before he made a major mistake. After a slight pause, he carefully looked over at his boss to see if he had already overheard what he had said and was already planning his death.
When he looked over, he was genuinely surprised. Luo Xiu wasn’t looking at him. In fact, his attention was somewhere else altogether –
He was looking at the tightly closed conference room door.
It almost looked like he was looking through the door as someone inside.
There was silence for a little while.
Luo Xiu turned back and his eyes were profound. “She was, indeed, different.”
Confirming that his boss did not hear his bold speech, the little assistant felt very lucky secretly. He quickly changed the subject. “But, about the intimate scene, Zong Shizi mentioned something has to do with Screenwriter Gu. Was she successful at blocking it?”
“No.”
“Oh, oh. That’s good.”
“She will be replacing Zong Shizi for the scene.”
“Body double works too. Better than having you –--”
The little assistant stopped what he was saying abruptly.
After a few seconds, he turned his head stiffed and gave Luo Xiu a dazed look, “Am I understanding it correctly that Screenwriter Gu will be the body double?”
“Mmmhmm.”
“And, and you didn’t object to that?”
“Mmmhmm.”
The little assistant, “… …”
Ooookay. He finally got it now.
His boss’s germophobic tendency was not cured, nor did it get any worse. It just wouldn’t happen when it came to specific time, location, and individual.
