Chapter 78 - Exactly how did she go from one to the other? (2)

“Oh, no..nothing.” Gu Nian denied with a guilty conscience and, worried that Luo Xiu would get suspicious, added, “Oh, it’s just that I have seen this notebook a few times now. It seems that you… like it quite a bit?”

Gu Nian didn’t sound confident at all when she asked and she avoided Luo Xiu’s eyes even after she had finished saying that.

Luo Xiu, “No, just bored. Something to kill time with.”

Gu Nian let out a sigh of relief as she couldn’t tell any distinctive like nor dislike in his voice. “Oh, is that so… Let’s go then?”

“Okay.”

Even the little assistant had gotten used to it over the last few days and would go and reserve a spot and servings for the three of them in advance every afternoon and wait for Luo Xiu and Gu Nian to show up.

That was, of course, Luo Xiu’s idea. The little assistant felt very hurt by how far his boss had fallen: Not only did he not keep a distance from the fox demon who was drooling over his beauty, he was offering himself up to her on a platter.

Oh, how he had fallen.

After he had put down the lunch boxes, the little assistant sat properly at the table and stared at the entrance of the canteen.

Today was yet another day that he warned the fox demon to stay away from his boss! … … Except that the fox demon didn’t even look over at him at all today.

“Watch out.”

Being tucked at her wrist, Gu Nian looked up, dazed and stopped on her track. She then saw a boy joking with those in his group and passed in front of her narrowly missing her.

The hot soup in his hand waivered and some spilled out and landed right in front of Gu Nian’s feet.

He, too, was startled and apologized immediately. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t notice that there is someone behind me.”

“It’s alright, I was spacing out…”

Gu Nian was just about nod when she noticed something. She looked down at her wrist and then, following the long and slender fingers all the way up and looked at the man standing next to her.

The light behind the lens was slightly cold and, looking at the young man, Luo Xiu’s side profile seemed fierce under the light. “You should pay more attention when you are carrying hot soup in your hands. Apologizing is not meaningful should there be an accident.”

“I’m so sorry. I will be sure to pay more attention in the future.”

“… …”

Gu Nian finally recollected herself after the young man quickly left under Luo Xiu’s stare. She called out uncertainly, “Mr. … Luo Xiu?”

Luo Xiu recollected himself.

Gentleness and tenderness returned to his eyes in a second.

Turning toward Gu Nian, he asked, “Are you alright?”

“Yes, I am fine.”

“The soup looked boiling hot and summer clothes are thin. I worry that it will burn you should it have gotten onto you so I was a bit nervous…”

Luo Xiu looked up apologetically as he talked.

“Did I startle you?”

“… …”

Gu Nian was dazed for a few seconds.

So, her precious son was worried that she would be hurt earlier which was why he as so nervous? To a point that his look was so scary and unfamiliar?

Wuuwuuwuu. Had their mother-and-son love moved onto the next level? She knew her love was not misplaced!!!

Gu Nian was so touched that tears filled her eyes. “Of course I won’t be scared of you. Never!”

“Never…” repeated Luo Xiu softly.

After she had heard that, Gu Nian asked, “What’s the matter?”

“No, nothing,” said Luo Xiu as he smiled gently. “That word just sound so surreal to me every time I hear it is all.”

“Hmm? Why is that?”

Luo Xiu did not reply.

But Gu Nian figured it out quickly. She turned around as she walked and she gave Luo Xiu a bright smile. “Mr. Luo Xiu felt that my never is just an empty promise?”

“… …”

Luo Xiu looked up and looked at her quietly.

Lights landed in his eyes gave them different shades of brown.

“Just you wait.”

Gu Nian giggled after she tried to put on a mean look for a few seconds.

“Just you wait – all the never’s that I have promised you, Mr. Luo Xiu, I will not forget even one of them.”

Luo Xiu lowered his eyes, “Even if things turned out different than you had imagined?”

“Even if it turned out different than I had imagined.” Gu Nian replied without missing a beat.

Luo Xiu had on a smile that wasn’t a smile. He looked up slightly and said, “I can’t tell whether you are smart or gullible.”

Gu Nian, “Smart, of course.”

“Is that so?”

Gu Nian smiled. “But you are different than others, Mr. Luo Xiu. I just might be more gullible when it comes to you.”

“… …”

Luo Xiu was a little surprised.

The girl ran out two steps and, noticing that the person behind her wasn’t following her, she turned around and happened to saw Luo Xiu looking at her, dazed.

Gu Nian figured it out and chuckled. “Why? Are you thinking about deceiving me, Mr. Luo Xiu?”

Luo Xiu recollected himself.

His lips curved up a little and his eyes were tender and harmless.

“Of course not.”
