Chapter 79 - Exactly how did she go from one to the other? (3)
When the three of them were almost done with lunch, five or six others sat down at the table behind them. They seemed to be from the lighting team.
One of them started talking not too long after they sat down.
“After my long wait, Screenwriter Zhuo is finally returning.”
“Oh? The beauty screenwriter is returning to the team?”
“Didn’t rumor has it that she was nominated for some sort of award from one of her previous scripts? How come she’s returning?”
“Pfft. That’s the spirit of Master Mengzhi. She isn’t even interested in an award normination.”
“No wonder she retired from the circle at her most popular time. She didn’t even care about fame. She is so different from the rest of us, eh?”
“… …”
With the few bantering, a voice cut in with a different tone. “Oh, knock it out already.”
“? Who’s talking now?”
“What? Do you not agree that Mengzhi was famed?”
“She is talented. Don’t be so bitter.”
The person pursed their lips. “Nevermind whether Zhuo Yixuan is really Mengzhi. Let’s just talk about Mengzhi. She did not withdraw from the entertainment circle because she didn’t care about fame, alright?”
“Hmm?”
“What are you talking about?”
The few individuals were annoyed just a moment ago but, now that there were gossips, they attention was immediately grabbed.
“Ahem, I heard that from a friend who studied at X University.” That person cleared their throat. “You’ve heard of X University, right? Many of the renowned director, screenwriter, actors graduated from that school. My friend told me that Mengzhi was a sophomore at their university.”
“Oh, boy. Shrewd. Mengzhi attended X University? That’s certain a prestigious school as far as people in this field are concerned.”
“Then what? Then what?”
“Then she became famed, right? The kind that became famed overnight. The students at X University only knew that that was an alias of one of their fellow students, but they didn’t know specifically who it was. Do you know how many companies wanted to sign her back then? You’d think she had a bright future in front of her. It was too bad that…”
“Too bad what?”
“Stop with the teasing already. Spill.”
The person grunted and said in a despicable tone. “Too bad that it was exposed that she was sleeping around with some upper management at the media company. His fiancée found out about it and went and made a scene at the school.”
“?? What? For realz?”
“Are you sure about that?”
“No way. I have never heard of any of this!”
“Of course X University would have suppressed the news. A student at their prominent university was a third person in a relationship and so high profile at that. Can you imagine? Of course they would do whatever within their power to keep it on the downlow.”
“What happened next then?”
“Was that the reason why Mengzhi retired from the circle?”
“Probably. Imagine the kind of power and background behind the fiancée of an upper management of a media company. Mengzhi might be popular, but she was still a student with no resources or connections. That all they talked about at X University during that period of time. Many had tried to identify her but she dropped out of school before that happened.”
“Mengzhi was a homewrecker? Her image of being a goddess in my mind was completely ruined.”
“And here I felt so sad that she had retired from the circle. I guess she got what she deserved. All home wreckers deserve to die horrible deaths.”
“Wait a minute. You all just take his words for it? Who knows what was the truth in situations like this? You shouldn’t just waver back and forth.”
“Are you seriously defending a home wrecker? Why would my friend want to defame her? What would he get out of it?”
“… …”
The discussion became more and more aggressive at the table next to them and the little assistant turned back around, shocked. “Did you hear that, Brother Luo? They said your loyal fan is a home…”
“No, I didn’t hear anyway.” Luo Xiu cut him off.
“Huh? But…”
Luo Xiu looked up and his voice was almost cold. “I don’t find it interesting to talk about others’ businesses with no proof whatsoever. If that’s what you enjoy, that is fine by me, but don’t talk to me about it.”
Sitting across from him, the girl’s brows furrowed deeply and she seemed to be in deep thought in great discomfort.
“Miss Gu, do you not feel well?”
“Hmm?” Gu Nian looked up and, after she recalled Luo Xiu’s question in her head, shook her head and said, “No, it’s just that what they said reminded me of…”
Luo Xiu frowned slightly, “Miss Gu enjoys this kind of gossip as well?”
Gu Nian followed up on what he was saying matter-of-factly, “Reminded me that I still haven’t figured out what to get you for your birthday.”
Luo Xiu, “… …”
Luo Xiu, “?”
Exactly how did she go from one to the other?

Gu Nian: Gossips? Do gossips outweigh her son? Of course not! (Oh, the love of an old mother)
