Chapter 10: It Felt… Distant

At the dining table, there were four people sitting and eating: Ji Nanfeng, Mo Lixin, Wei Xiualan, and Ji Shibo.

Ji Shibo looked at the faces of his family. He sighed inwardly. It was not easy… it was not easy for people like them to sit down and eat calmly like a happy family.

It felt… distant.

Ji Nanfeng and Ji Shibo had the same thoughts.

In the past life, since his marriage to Mo Lixin, he’d not been very close to his family. He felt that this marriage with Mo Lixin had been set up by them against his will. He remembered his many complaints in his heart.

Naturally, they were seldom together.

Dinner together as a family was a rare occurrence and he’d only go home every New Year’s Day. Moreover, as time passed, Duan Anran and him often had a quarrel. Every quarrel lead to anger, and every anger led to his growing unhappiness, and every unhappiness he directed towards Mo Lixin and his family.

In this life, he promised he’d no longer do this. He won’t disappoint Mo Lixin.

“Mom, grandpa, I want Mo Lixin to go out and work!”

“Go out to work, huh… is she willing? Eh, wait, how do you know that Lixin has no job?” Ji Shibo asked curiously.

“Well, she’s by herself here most of the time. Doesn’t she like designing wedding dresses? I contacted someone in that industry to give Lixin a chance to do something she likes.” Ignoring Ji Shibo’s questioning, Ji Nanfeng replied under his own terms.

After Mo Lixin’s death, he found her diary and learned that she suffered from depression.

“That’s for the best. Lixin likes those sort of things and she has good talent. It shouldn’t be buried like this. You should’ve done this sooner!” Said Ji Shibo.

“Yes, grandpa… I know.”

Grandpa, I was an ass before! Forgive me!

Suddenly, the phone rang.

“Umm… can I go ahead and answer the phone?” Mo Lixin asked Ji Nanfeng in a low voice. She was thinking that he’d forgotten to change the ringtone.

“Go! Why do you need to ask us these things?” Wei Xiulan replied in puzzlement.

But still, she waited.

“Go ahead!” As he replied, his hands clenched into a tight fist.

It was one of the rules set up long ago. She must not answer the phone in front of him.

Damn it, you slag man!

Mo Lixin left the dining room and picked up the phone.

Reading the caller name, it was from one of her few friends, Xu Qingman.

They were college roommates.

“Man Man, what’s the matter?” Mo Lixin listened to the other side, but hearing the other side not say anything, she asked worriedly.

At the same time, in Shuixin Apartment, a tall woman with curled hair cried on the phone silently. Hearing the voice of the person on the other line, she soon wept. She couldn’t control herself.

“Xin Xin, it’s only you! You’re the only friend for me!” The woman answered. The corners of her eyes teared up.

Mo Lixin was unable to understand Xu Qingman, but listening to the tone of her voice, it can be inferred that she found herself in an awful situation.

“Where are you? I’ll be right there. Are you at home?”

“Xin Xin, you’re so kind. Those demons… now my parents are dead… why… why didn’t they give me more time… just a little bit more time…”

Xu Qingman’s rambling was in a sea of mess, but still, Mo Lixin understood her. Her friends and parents killed themselves, or more like, those “debt collectors” caused the death of her loved ones.

The first thought in Mo Lixin’s heart was to go there. Her friend needed her right now. She should have grabbed a pack of clothes but she did not. She quickly put on her slippers and a slightly thick sweater and went out of the villa.

Grabbing a taxi, Mo Lixin went straight to Xu Qingman’s house. During the ride, she sent a text message to Wei Xiulan that she went out and told them not to worry.

Sitting in the car and looking out the windows, she slowly calmed down, her mind thinking of her friend.
