Chapter 17: If Only It Was Like This

Her mouth was soft—like jelly. It felt intoxicating, indulgent even. Ji Nanfeng lowered the bowl in his hand, and slowly, he placed it on the table resting next to him. His only intent was to embrace his wife and deepen the kiss in which she initiated.

He liked, no, loved it.

He craved her in the most innocent form.

As the temperature in the room seemed to rise, Ji Nanfeng almost could not control himself, but in the end did he let go reluctantly.

“Haaaa…” Mo Lixin drew out two big breaths as if she’d soon suffocate.

“Lixin… Who am I…?” He asked softly while looking at her flushed face.

“You… Who are you? Hmm… a good-looking man… no, it’s Nanfeng! Hehe!” Mo Lixin swayed before jumping on the sofa.

“Nanfeng wants you to drink medicine. If you don’t drink medicine, I’ll be angry. Won’t you drink?” Ji Nanfeng coaxed her, albeit in a pampering tone.

Mo Lixin’s beautiful eyebrows wrinkled. “Nanfeng, don’t be angry. I… I’ll drink it. Nanfeng… don’t be mad…”

Ji Nanfeng was an essential part of her life.

He was really a blind fool.

Mo Lixin took a deep breath, pinched her nose, and downed the medicine in one go. It wasn’t too bad, but it was bitter.

“I’m not drinking medicine again… never…” Mo Lixin muttered.

Soon after, her eyes closed. She was tired.

“Ah! Where is this place? Look at this… this is where the rich live!” Xu Qingman had taken a bath and changed into a new pair of clothes. She was still under the influence of alcohol.

“This is a hotel. I had someone bathe you. Since I don’t know where your home is, you can rest here for the night,” Said Gan Yunting.

“No, no, I… I want to find Lixin!” She was intent on walking out of the room.

Gan Yunting rubbed his temple, obviously stuck in a predicament. Who knew a woman would be so troublesome.

After many talks of coaxing and deceiving, Xu Xingman did not go out. It somehow ended with the two playing chess.

The bathroom mirror was foggy. Every now and then, splashes of water wet the floor.

“Ah… this is… Nanfeng…”

Ji Nanfeng suppressed his impulse to engage in an animalistic behavior and gently bathed his wife. In the midst of it, his cheeks was the color of rosy wine. He saw her in her most naked form.

How he wanted to have her right now.

Those innocent eyes gazing straight into his soul…

But not right now.

When they connect together as one, it’ll be perfect.

After bathing her, Ji Nanfeng carried her to the bed with a bath towel wrapped around her. He then took a bath himself, and when he came out, she had long fallen asleep. Her brows creased into a knot. She seemed to be having a bad dream.

He laid down next to her and pulled her in his embrace.

“Sleep well, Lixin.”

Mo Lixin did indeed have a nightmare.

It was Ji Nanfeng.

It was like he killed her every dawn, and revived her in the twilight. She dreamed that he no longer wanted her. He looked at her with cold, piercing eyes as he grabbed Duan Anran’s hand tightly. Next, he drove her out. But then, everything turned around. Ji Nanfeng held her in his embrace and whispered to her how he wanted to spend his life with her.

She was on a rollercoaster ride of heaven and hell.

It was daybreak when she awakened.

“Ugh… my head…” Mo Lixin sat up and rubbed her head.

What happened yesterday? Did she not go out? How did she get back? No, more importantly… why does her head ache so much? Ah… that’s right. She’d been drinking. How unequivocally irresponsible of her.

Numerous questions poured out of her mind, but slowly, it was washed away when she walked downstairs for a fragrant smell besieged her nose.

Is there anyone in the kitchen? Mo Lixin thought. Did she invite her aunt? No, that shouldn’t be. Ji Nanfeng never liked seeing strangers enter the house. Only one who could come was Duan Anran. But she’s not a stranger. She was Ji Nanfeng’s lover. Mo Lixin donned a bitter smile at the thought of that woman appearing in her mind.

“You’re up! Do you still have a headache? Here, have some porridge!” Ji Nanfeng’s voice echoed from the kitchen.

Mo Lixin was at the stairway wondering if she’d misheard something…

“How many eggs do you want? One or two? How do you like it done? Scrambled? Sunny side up?” Ji Nanfeng stuck his head out of the doorway and asked Mo Lixin.

“T-two sunny side up!” She blurted out.

So she did not hear it wrong. It was Ji Nanfeng in the kitchen. He was preparing her breakfast. He even asked her of her preference.

Her knotted heart untangled as the withered flower inside slowly bloomed. The sun seemed brighter than usual. That’s right… he had lost his memories. He no longer remembered the past.

Though his lost memories were the reason for his sudden change, she was still happy.

If only it was like this all the time…
