Chapter 52 Undead Outbreak

Zayn expected the strategists of the town to come up with a great scheme but their final plan was way too simple to call it such.

The participants willing to fight against the army of thousands of Undead had been divided according to their powers. The adventurers who were known for being in possession of abilities that affected a large area became the front face of the defensive line.

They were told to use their powers to kill as many Undeads as possible while leaving the remains to the other combatants.

Zayn didn't think that it was a bad plan but he actually expected something else.

'Why is nobody luring the Undeads somewhere to gather to make the most out of the large-scale attacks?' He wondered, unable to understand what the strategist of the town was thinking.

The army of the Undeads was widely spread out and it was hardly possible to use the full potential of the Adventurer's large-scale attacks due to their numerical disadvantage.

Zayn knew that it would make things a lot more complicated since the result of an inefficient attack was incomparable to a proper plan that could be executed very well against the Undeads.

'I thought that there were three or more Blessed with the Control of the Earth around them…Create a fucking pit, pull all the Undeads inside the pit and have fun killing them with various long-range attacks…is that really so difficult?'

It didn't even require him a minute worth of thinking to come up with that plan. He knew that it was not easy to pull all Undead inside a single pit and that the pit had to be ready for use, in the first place, but it was certainly better than the strategist's highly nonsensical idea.

But it was not as if Zayn had the time, energy, let alone enough interest to bother talking to the strategist or anyone else. It was a hassle and something he rather avoided.

He went to his position once the number of his team was announced throughout the entire town.

His steps were slow but he arrived at his designated position by the town's outskirts not too long after. At the same time, he was given reports about the position of the undead army every few minutes when one of his Sparrow Spirits returned to him.

'In less than ten minutes we will clash? Alright…' Zayn used the memories of the Sparrow Spirits to figure out the formation of the Undead Army, in which areas were most lesser Undead located and where the strongest Undead gathered.

The result was quite obvious since the Undead Army walked through the plains in the spearhead formation, but the spearhead was led by the strongest Undead and those around it were only a little weaker. The monsters at the outermost area of the spearhead were the weakest with only a few stronger Undead mixed in between to deflect any surprise attacks.

The stronger Undead were the commanders of the ordinary, weak Undead whom they controlled to a certain extent. As for the five huge Undeads that were at the front of the spearhead, they were likely to be able to control everyone. However, from what Zayn saw in the memories of the Sparrow Spirits, they wouldn't control the Undeads since they ran around wildly as if they had been stung by a bee.

The only difference was that the five strongest Undead looked like humongous Gorillas or existences that resembled five-meter-tall Gorillas.

Though it was hard to make out how the Gorillas had looked like before, their current appearance was nothing to scoff at. They were bulky monstrosities of decay and rot. Their fur was mottled, rotten and huge chunks of flesh were missing from different areas of their body, revealing bubbly, boiling yellowed flesh underneath.

Their eyes were sunken and vacant, glowing in a red malicious light that didn't ought to belong there. Their heads looked otherworldly as well. Some were missing fur and flesh from their heads, revealing their skull that was adorned by various mysterious hieroglyphs, but that was not everything. All of them had either one or two horns jutting out of their skull. The horn was almost half a meter long, and it attracted everyone's attention the moment the army of the undead appeared in the Adventurer's sight.

As the undead emerged in the field of vision of the defenders, the reeking stench of death and decay swamped over. The smell caused the defenders to momentarily freeze in their steps. It was too overpowering and their hearts began to beat wildly as the faint tremors that swept through the ground could be felt by everyone no matter how faint they were.

At this moment, Zayn knew one thing for sure; he was still at the bottom of the food chain!

There was no reason for him to act arrogantly and think of himself as a strong individual just because he had killed Phillip, Jens, Paul or the other Blessed when they had been wasted and overwhelmed by dozens of opponents.

The arrogance he had felt at that time would inevitably kill him if he were to continue like that…if the Zombiefied Gorillas wouldn't get their hands on him before…

Goosebumps spread all over Zayn's body and he was actually glad that he was far away from the Zombiefied Gorillas. The center of the battlefield where all the action would take place was bound to be far away from him, as he was not on the front line. And there was actually not much he could do in order to survive, except give his utmost to be of help and become stronger while fighting with his life on the line.

'How the hell did I even get pulled into this big mess?' He wondered at this moment as he stood at the outermost parts of what would soon turn into a large battlefield.

They were still in the central region of the human territory, yet the people who ought to be living a peaceful life were forced to fight a few thousand undead. That included Zayn, whose expression turned a little bit odd.

'Well…I could have expected that I would end up like this the moment I killed Phillip…' He thought with a faint smile on his lips. The smile looked fake but it was actually a smile filled with ridicule for himself.

He was not someone who liked to run away from things, yet he had actually attempted to avoid the Undead Caves.

However, ultimately, the mystery of the Undead Caves was coming after him…quite literally.
