At the time Koji called, Ashley just arrived at her house and was currently in her room, planning to rest before lunchtime. That was when she saw her phone light up.
"Who is calling?" Ashley asked herself while changing her clothes.
After she changed her clothes, she took a look at her phone, which was above a table at her bedside. When she looked at who was calling, she didn't have time to accept the call, so it went to voicemail.
She looked at who called and was shocked to see Koji's number. "Why is he calling?" Ashley talked to herself again while thinking if she should call him back or not.
While she was still having second thoughts on calling Koji back, her phone suddenly lit up again. This time, she immediately picked it up without even looking at who was calling.
"President Hanada! How are you? Why the sudden call?" Ashley happily greeted the person on the other line.
She was shocked that it was not Koji's voice, but it was her husband's voice. It sounded as though he were boiling in anger… or jealousy.
"I know I've forgotten many things, but as far as I know, my name is not President Hanada, but CEO TANAGA HANADA JONES!"
Ashley almost lost grip of her phone when she heard Tanaga's voice. She stiffened and was speechless. Her silence caused Tanaga to become more furious and he almost even cut the line.
Fortunately, Ashley came back from her senses and answered before Tanaga had the chance to hang up.
"I'm sorry, I thought you were President Hanada because he just called, and I didn't have time to pick it up because I was changing clothes," Ashley explained while thinking about where Tanaga could be right now.
The other line became quiet, so she almost hung up.
"How do you feel? Does it still hurt?" Tanaga suddenly asked, his voice obviously worried.
Ashley was shocked at Tanaga's question. She didn't know if she should be happy or not. She just decided not to give that question too much thought so she wouldn't become too hopeful. She answered in a neutral tone, "I'm fine! Thanks to God, I'm walking but still careful." Ashley replied like it was nothing.
Tanaga's eyebrows rose up when he heard how coldly Ashley answered. Soon, silence overtook sound and the two were left to just sense each other.
When Tanaga didn't talk anymore, Ashley initiated to end the call. "Do you have anything more to ask? 'Cause if there's nothing else then I'm gonna rest," Ashley declared while waiting for Tanaga's reply.
"I guess there's nothing more. I just thought of asking if you're doing fine. I'm on the plane right now and I can't sleep. Since I have nothing to do here, I called you," Tanaga said, his tone revealing his slight distress.
"Is that so? You should rest as I'm also going to rest, bye!" She was about to hang up when she heard Tanaga speak again.
"Wait! Ashley, can we talk for a while you're resting? It's so boring here, it might still take six hours before we land in Japan. I'm bored of Butler Ruffy," Tanaga whined.
"Hahaha! It's like you don't know Uncle Ruffy." Ashley laughed genuinely, which gave Tanaga joy because he heard the graceful voice of Ashley and not the bitter treatment she gave earlier.
In the end, Ashley talked with Tanaga. She answered every question he asked when they were together before. They didn't notice the time, and they ended up talking for an hour because they were both so happy speaking with each other.
They wouldn't have stopped talking if Inday didn't knock to remind Ashley to b.r.e.a.s.tfeed the twins.
*Knock* *Knock* "Ms. Ashley, it's time to b.r.e.a.s.tfeed the twins. Should I bring the two here or are you going to go to them in the nursery room?" Inday proclaimed loudly behind the door.
"Wait! I'll just go there. Give me a minute, okay?" Ashley replied, which was clearly heard by Tanaga.
"You're gonna b.r.e.a.s.tfeed the kids? Can you not do that?" Tanaga didn't know where that came from; it just blurted out from his mouth to Ashley.
He suddenly felt embarrassed and took back his words. "I mean, you might get exhausted by that, mostly if you started working. That's just what I mean." Tanaga's excuse then slapped his mouth because of what he said earlier. 'You sh*tty mouth, if you can't say anything good, just shut up!'
"Hahaha! It's fine! I'm just gonna b.r.e.a.s.tfeed them for a few days and as the doctor said, the kids also need this. It'll make them smart! My father gave me this advice for our sons."
When Tanaga heard Ashley's last words 'our sons', he suddenly longed for his wife and sons.
"Ash, what do you think if you and the kids come back to Japan? We have many bodyguards for you and our son's safety – what do you think?"
Ashley was shocked by his words. She didn't expect such a question from him. 'Did his memories come back?'
To make sure of her theory, she asked Tanaga, "Do remember me now?" Her voice was trembling.
She was praying that Tanaga remembered what he had to remember. 'If you say yes, I'll agree to go back to Japan. But, if it's still a no, I and the kids are going to stay here.'
Tanaga didn't answer immediately because the truth was, he was still remembering Ashley bit by bit. Even still, his doubt was still conquering him.
He was scared that one day Ashley would leave like what Ohani did to him. Because of that, he could only answer, "Sorry, I still haven't…"
That was just the thing Ashley needed to hear. Her thoughts didn't need more explanations. She was convinced that she and Tanaga wouldn't reconcile again. He wouldn't be happy on her side if he kept on doubting her.
She always believed that having no trust in your spouse could be a reason for their separation if that time were to come. That was the one thing she never wanted to happen because she knew she wouldn't be able to endure it.
It was better while it was still early to prepare herself for what could happen.
"The kids need me now. Take care of yourself there. Bye!" Ashley hung up the phone, not even waiting for Tanaga to bid his farewell.
She couldn't hold back her tears and cried out loud, pitying herself, "I wish you never reveal yourself. I wish you just would let me think that you're already dead. In this important time, you are alive, yet you can't remember me!" Her tears flowed like a river.
