“It’s no good, I don’t get this at all!”
I say while checking a transcribe scroll with my own information.
It’s been a few days since I formed a contract with Seilook. I’m trying to look into the primordial magic from that time, but I’m not making any progress.
“Something in me was reduced when I formed the contract, but what? If those were numbers, they decreased by one whole column, but I don’t see any changes in my body. Hmm…”
The transcribe scroll reads the physical information of its subject and displays it on top. For non-physical things like magic elements, I use the pendulum.
“Those weren’t magic elements that burst out of my wound. That means that there is some other non-physical thing in this world besides magic elements.”
I feel both frustration and amusement as I start to pile on theories about this new phenomenon.
The cause of this, Seilook, is playing with Hipopo. It looks like they’re completely used to each other.
The weather is nice, and since it looked like Seilook wanted to go out too, I’m sitting on a chair outside the tent.
I can see through the spaces between the tents in front of me Seilook coiled around Hipopo’s tail. They were playing tag just before.
“Ahh, no matter how much I ask, Seilook won’t make that half transparent plate appear again. I guess that was just something for when a contract is formed, or maybe there’s some other…”
“Master Rust.”
I hear Ahri.
“Ah, Ahri. Is it time already?”
I get up and start putting everything away. I previously asked Ahri to guide me to where the road will be built so I can help.
I grab my backpack and climb on top of Hipopo with Ahri sitting behind me.
“Seilook, we’re going out for a while, so stay with Rose.”
Just as we’re about to leave, Seilook flaps its wings and flies over to my shoulder. Seilook’s body is really light, probably to help with flight.
Seilook then starts lightly poking my head with its mouth.
“Do you want to come with us?”
“Kyu.”
All right then. I ask Hipopo to start running.
◆◇
The wind feels nice as Hipopo runs through the wasteland.
Seilook is flying while keeping up with us, and the light from the sun reflecting on its white body makes it look like it’s shining.
“It’s really pretty.”
Says Ahri while looking at Seilook.
“Yes. I didn’t expect dragons to be so graceful.”
“The first person in hundreds of years to form a contract with a dragon. Of course it had to be you, Master Rust. The scope of your knowledge goes beyond alchemy. We were watching, but we had no idea what was happening.”
Ahri is praising me, but I feel a little awkward. It’s not like I really knew what was going on either.
“No, it’s not a big deal. It all just sort of happened.”
My answer is vague. I only told them more or less what I did with the half transparent plate.
I’ve never seen something like that before, and I was the only one who could see it. And we aren’t going to know more about it unless we can bring it out again. It’s all so vague that if someone told me I imagined it I probably couldn’t argue.
“Kyu~”
Meanwhile, Seilook just looks like it’s having fun flying.
Oh well. At least I can see Seilook enjoying itself like this.
I’m looking up while thinking about this, and then Ahri yells.
“Master Rust! Monsters are coming!”
I look back and see the shine of magic elements in Ahri’s eye behind the monocle.
