I nod at Eve, at the same time as Kalin attacks.
Eve swings its commanding staff down, starting the attack of the bamboo shoot army.
First, they throw spears.
There’s a squad of bamboo shoots standing a little far from the army of the First Seat of Delusion. These ones have throwing spears made of bamboo as their standard equipment, but that’s not all that’s different about them.
“Oh, what’s that?”
“Those bamboo shoots are specialized in throwing spears. I call them catapult shoots.”
I answer Roa’s question while composing my breathing.
The bamboo spears thrown by the catapult shoots all fly at the same time.
These catapult shoots have far more physical strength than the average person, and their spears thrown high into the sky paint it in their green bamboo color.
And then, the spears fall on the mermen like rain.
But just before that happens, the remaining bamboo shoots spread chaos among the enemy lines and the ones around the enemy army all take shelter by burrowing underground.
Of course, the mermen’s attention is grabbed by the bamboo shoots and the holes they dig to flee.
And while they’re looking down, they don’t pay attention to what’s up.
The First Seat of Delusion seems panicked as the human torsos growing from its body tremble, and make loud noises as they bump against each other.
It really does sound like human bodies colliding with something.
Some of the mermen hear this sound and look up, opening their eyes wide when they do. The ones closest to the First Seat of Delusion immediately rush to cover it.
And that’s when the bamboo spear rain arrives.
In the blink of an eye, the sound of a heavy downpour reaches even where I’m standing, and more and more skewered fish appear on the ground.
“It makes it almost unreal how I struggled with them once.”
Says Taula with a bright tone while overlooking that bamboo spear inferno.
Then Eve swings its commanding staff again, and the attack by the catapult shoots stops.
And just as the last bamboo spear hits the ground, the army led by Kalin assaults the merman army.
They were thrown into a melee and showered with bamboo spears, but their counteroffensive is surprisingly tough.
I see mermen that can only move their body a little, struggling to stab at the Admiral army, as they swing their swords until their last dying breath.
Some even swing swords while still impaled by bamboo.
“That right there is what is so troublesome about mermen. It gave me trouble as well.”
“They have strong vitality, few emotions, and a lot of valor. It does sound like a troubling disposition. But I don’t think they can match up to Kalin and the others.”
I say in response to Taula’s whisper.
The area around the mermen, except where the Lesser Hipopo are running, is covered in holes from when the bamboo shoots took refuge before.
“Look, the holes are being filled where Kalin and the others are passing. But everywhere is still…”
I thought about this before because of the earthquakes, but these bamboo shoots’ specialty really is public works.
The merman army tries to deal with Kalin’s as they assault the left wing, and when the ones in the center and right make a move, their legs are caught in the holes, slowing them down. Furthermore, the bamboo shoots burrowed underground pop up once again, adding to the confusion.
“And that’s what happens.”
As the merman army can’t keep up, the army led by Kalin charges and breaks through the left wing, before changing course and moving away from the enemy along the sea.
“Time for the next one.”
I take out another scroll.
