Chapter 1: Chapter 1- Death at the hands of his relatives
BEEP-BEEP... a monitor near the bedside made some noise. Lying next to it, on a bed was a skinny young man with a sickly pale skin.
"Cough... cough" the young man coughed, he looked no more than fifteen years old. All around him, were various medical equipment meant to maintain his life. Clearly, the place was inside a hospital.
At this moment, the eyes of the young man were bleak and hollow as he blankly stared at the ceiling. An atmosphere of despondence surrounded him. The reason for that was none other than the noise that came from the outside.
"I told you there is no point in keeping him here any longer. He is destined to die from that incurable disease. Wouldn't it be better for us to save that money"
A high pitched noise belonging to a woman, sounded out.
"Shhh... keep your voice low, he is sleeping. His father was the president of the company and had left all that money for his treatment. It can be said that it is his money. Even if we are his relative, we cannot take it" The other voice was that of a calm middle aged man.
"Hmph, so what? Elder sister is right. It has been eight years since he has been admitted here and even the doctors all around the world have said that the disease cannot be cured. It is just a waste of money to keep him in the ICU any longer".
"Cousin brother has already died and his son has been in the hospital for years. I think it would also be better for him if we relieve him of this pain" Another voice that sounded younger than the voice of the woman before sounded out.
"What are you implying?" the man spoke again, his voice contained a trace of anger.
"Brother in law doesn't have to be mad at me, I'm just saying that all that money is lying around without any purpose. The legal heir is also about to die, in that case, aren't we his relatives the owner of that money? Then shouldn't we put that money into use instead of letting it rot and be used for prolonging Yang Chen's life"
If he was moved away from the ICU, it was as good as killing him. His life was delicately hanging in a balance and was being prolonged by these medical equipments.
The disease that had been found in his blood seven years ago, was incurable. His father had tried numerous ways to cure him, he had brought him to numerous hospitals and consulted with the best of the best doctors.
Ultimately though, all of them said the same thing. Nevertheless, his parents never gave up. One year ago when his father and mother were going on a foreign trip to consult the world's most renowned doctor, they had died in a car crash. Leaving him all alone and with a vast sum of fortune. However, wealth meant nothing to a dying person.
"Seven years" Yang Chen extended, his hand towards the ceiling "It has been seven years since I was admitted to the hospital. The life I used to live before, seems just like a dream now. Father, mother what do I do?".
An image of a stern yet dignified middle aged man and a lovely woman with her charming and motherly smile floated in his mind.
It felt like if he just extended his hand a little more, he would be able to touch them. He remembered the times when the three of them were in that house, that joyful environment, those scolding of his father, his mother's loving embrace when he was crying.
All of it played like a loop again and again in his head for the past one year. Nobody could tell how much he missed them.
His eyes which were lost in memories finally gained some lucidness and a determination flashed inside those dull black eyes of his.
"Father... honestly, I want to give up. I miss you all too much. I'm tired of living like this. But if I said that, I'm sure that if you were here you, would give me a good scolding. You who have never ever given up in your life, or on me would definitely be disappointed".
"Thus I will live, no matter what happens, I will not allow those ungrateful relatives of mine to do as they wish. I'm sure that you would be proud of my decision. I miss you two" Yang Chen was talking to himself as he stared at particularly nowhere.
