Chapter 224 - Just bruised

When Luo Guangying saw Xiao Zhihao limping out of the house, he immediately got down from the car and went to him.

"Are you alright?" Luo Guangying asked as he checked on Xiao Zhihao.

Xiao Zhihao nodded. "Just bruised..."

He hit his leg hard against the stairs earlier, but he did not think that it was anything more than a bruise.

He then glanced up at the sky, where the sky had already darkened without him knowing. "Weird... It was supposed to be a sunny day."

Xiao Zhihao had checked the weather before he left the house today. Because it was supposed to be sunny, he had plans of going to the park with Yun Qi as well.

When he got to the car, the rain started to fall, causing him to feel unease again. Xiao Zhihao was about to get into the car when he looked toward his house again. He thought about everything he saw and what Yun Qi and Yun Wei's father said earlier---"Bitch left the world..."

Xiao Zhihao's heartbeat started to accelerate. Images of what he saw earlier started to flash through his mind... until the image of his backyard.

"No..." Xiao Zhihao shook his head. Beads of sweat started to form on his forehead and mingled with the raindrops that fell on his forehead. "No way..."

"What's wrong?" Luo Guangying asked when he saw the fear and disbelief on Xiao Zhihao's face.

The boy slowly took his step toward his old house. The pitter-patter sound of the light rain earlier was replaced by a torrential downpour as Xiao Zhihao picked up his pace and ran to the backyard.

He stood in front of the odd area, which was about 6 feet in length. "No!" he yelled as he started to dig in the soil, completely ignoring the broken glasses that were lying around. Even as he was cut by the glasses, he did not stop digging.

"What's wrong, Zhihao?" Luo Guangying asked as he tried to stop Xiao Zhihao. He put a hand on Xiao Zhihao's shoulder and said worriedly, "Are you looking for something?"

The boy pushed Luo Guangying's hand away. "F*ck off!" he yelled in anger and fear as he continued to dig. "Don't be true! Please don't be true!"

He dug and dug, while Luo Guangying continued to watch on with a confused expression. After a while, Xiao Zhihao saw something sparkling that was buried underneath the soil, and he dug a little gentler as he retrieved the stuff.

It seemed to be a necklace.

The necklace that he bought for Yun Qi.

Luo Guangying was at a loss. He did not know what was happening.

He watched as Xiao Zhihao dug around the simple-looking necklace, and he watched as Xiao Zhihao pulled the necklace slowly. There seemed to be some resistance, but the boy kept on digging.

Luo Guangying's eyes went wide when he saw a slightly decomposed hand that was being pulled out from the wet soil.

He had a feeling... and he acted on it by pulling Xiao Zhihao away.

"No! No! NO! That can't be her! That can't!"

With tears falling down his cheeks, Xiao Zhihao struggled against Luo Guangying, but the latter held him tightly to prevent him from seeing the rest of her body. "Don't! Don't look!"

"Argh! ARGH!" Xiao Zhihao cried as he clutched on the necklace that was now on his hand. "No! Yun Qi! No!"

The heavens seemed to have heard his call as thunder came roaring as he yelled.

"It'll be alright..." Luo Guangying murmured as he patted Xiao Zhihao's back, but he knew. He knew that nothing would be alright for the boy from now on.

Luo Guangying heard footsteps and shouting, and he looked up, only to see his partner's thunderous face and a fat, ugly man with a broken hand and bruised face.

"I didn't see you guys in the car..." Callum looked at Xiao Zhihao, who was crying against Luo Guangying's shoulder, and he then looked at the wet soil, where he saw the slightly decomposed hand.

"This..." Luo Guangying wanted to explain, but Callum stopped him by shaking his head.

"I know." Callum glared at the man who was whimpering behind him. The man was shouting for help, but with such heavy and thunderous rain, no one would be able to hear him. Even if someone heard his voice, in this kind of neighborhood, no one would bother to come out and help him. "This f*cker's son told me everything."

The man was trying to steal his daughter's necklace to sell it off and buy some drugs. However, that was a gift by Xiao Zhihao, so Yun Qi refused to let it go no matter how hard her father was hitting her.

And as she tried to protect the necklace from being stolen away, she accidentally slapped her father across the face, causing his temper to rise abruptly. In his anger, he kicked her down the stairs, where she hit the back of her head. According to Yun Wei, there was a lot of blood, and when he went to check on her, she was still convulsing and frothing from the mouth, but his father did not allow him to call for help and even hit him when he tried to reach for the phone.

And after a while, she stopped moving altogether.

Hence, the man forced his son to bury Yun Qi in the backyard of Xiao Lei and Xiao Zhihao's house in case someone were to come and investigate her disappearance. Yun Wei had been using his sister's phone to communicate with her friends so that no one would feel that something was wrong. Whenever anyone called, he would just reply that "I'm busy/I'm at the library" or something equivalent to get the person off his back.

After Callum found out everything from Yun Wei, he attacked the piece of thrash who killed his own daughter and broke his arm in the process before dragging him over to where he buried his daughter. He had wanted to force the man to unearth the body of his daughter.

However, he did not expect to see that Xiao Zhihao managed to figure out where his missing friend was.

Hearing Callum's voice, Xiao Zhihao looked up. The rain that hit his face mingled with his tears, making him look like a poor little boy. When he saw Yun Qi and Yun Wei's deadbeat father, he screamed, "ARGGGGH!"

In his pain and anger, he found enough strength to push Luo Guangying away, causing the man to fall onto the muddy wet dirt.

Xiao Zhihao then charged toward the man, and when the man looked at him, Xiao Zhihao punched him with a strength that he never knew he had. Given that one of the man's arm was already broken, and that he was almost half-dead from the pummeling that Callum gave him, he could barely defend himself against Xiao Zhihao's punches.

"Why?!" Xiao Zhihao yelled as he punched the man's face. "Why did you do that?! SHE'S YOUR  DAUGHTER! YOUR BIOLOGICAL DAUGHTER!"
