After Zhao Zhan was done with the farm, he went back and told Yue Jiaojiao that he would be treating Dashan and his wife to a meal.
“Dashan hasn’t moved out yet. I don’t know if he’s willing to farm it with us. After all, we haven’t finished planting it ourselves.”
Yue Jiaojiao consoled the slightly nervous Zhao Zhan, “I think you’ve done a good job. Whether he’s willing or not, at least you’ve invited him to our house to talk to him. Moreover, you can be at ease and do whatever you want to do on your own turf. Whether you succeed or fail, it can all be regarded as an accumulation of experience. There’s no need to be so anxious. We can take it slowly.”
Zhao Zhan usually had a cold face when he was outside. He exuded an imposing aura, and he was always a reliable person when he went out to do things.
However, in front of Yue Jiaojiao, he just wanted to do better.
Thinking about it too much caused a sense of uneasiness to grow in his heart.
Yue Jiaojiao saw it clearly and reached out to pat his head. “These were all my ideas. If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have found them at all. That’s why you’re important, very, very important!”
Zhao Zhan took her into his arms. He was just a rough man who hunted for a living. He had no parents, and his only uncle and aunt were abusive.
Perhaps the heavens couldn’t bear to see him so pitiful, so they sent a fairy to stay by his side.
Therefore, he had always felt a sense of urgency in his heart that he might lose her suddenly. He was eager to build a golden house for his wife and hide her well inside. He never wanted her to suffer even a little bit of wind and rain.
It was best to let her stay at home happily and let her do what she wanted to do.
“Alright, since you’ll be entertaining the guests first. I’ll take out all the tofu and bean sprouts and cook them tonight.”
“Alright,” she said.
Zhao Zhan hugged Yue Jiaojiao tightly before letting her go. With a simple lift, he went down the mountain to find a comfortable place for her to sit down. He then went to prepare dinner.
When Yang Dashan and Li Miao arrived, Zhao Zhan had just placed all the dishes on the table.
Yue Jiaojiao shuffled over to open the courtyard door and greeted them with a smile, “Dashan, Li Miao, come in quickly. Zhao Zhan has just finished cooking.”
It was Yang Dashan’s first time seeing Yue Jiaojiao.
At first, he didn’t believe that his wife had described her as a fairy from heaven, but now that he had seen her in person, he completely believed her.
However, he didn’t look at her as much as he looked at his wife.
“Jiaojiao, why are you so fair?” Li Miao held Yue Jiaojiao’s hand affectionately and couldn’t help but say, “And your hand, it’s so smooth, unlike mine, which is as rough as a tree bark.”
“That’s because I’m not as diligent as you, Li Miao. I’ve been resting at home and didn’t do anything else.”
Li Miao then looked at Yue Jiaojiao’s legs and couldn’t help but be surprised. “I knew that the rumors about you being a cripple in the village were all nonsense. When I saw you the other day, you just walked a little slower and didn’t look like you were crippled. Turns out it was just an injury on your leg. Have you recovered now?”
“It’s all good now. I can jump and hop a little now.”
The two of them walked over to the dining table as they spoke. Zhao Zhan saw her coming over, and his eyes were fixed on where she was going. He considerately moved a stool and helped her stay seated. He then wrung a warm handkerchief and placed it by her hand. When he sat down, the first thing he did was to pick up a piece of red braised meat with his chopsticks and put it in Yue Jiaojiao’s bowl.
“Jiaojiao, you’re so lucky. I wouldn’t have known that Zhao Zhan, who was usually quiet and only knew how to hunt, would treat you so well.”
Li Miao glanced at Yang Dashan as she spoke, “In comparison, you’re just an average man to me.”
