Chapter 327 - Why Did I Hire You

That night.. Was a lot more awkward for the trio - Maya, Sera and Xav, as they exchanged silent glances and stiff smiles on their journey to the guesthouse.

To ease the atmosphere, Maya would chime in occasionally and receive monosyllable replies, making it even awkward.

After arriving, Sera dashed inside her room, extremely embarrassed and only came out the next morning, all dressed up and ready to leave for B City. She refused Maya and Xav's good intentions to drop her, and had already called the Lu family's chauffeur to send her back.

Bidding farewell, Sera hopped into the white Cadillac and waved her hand smiling at Maya and Xav.

"Thank God! That was so embarrassing.. I hope they don't remember anything the next time we meet.."

Sitting inside the car, Sera mumbled to herself after recalling the weird glances of Maya and Xav directed at her, last night. She wished to dig a hole and hide, it was horrible.

Shaking her head to rid of all the dreadful thoughts, Sera fished out her cellphone and was stunned to find 5 missed calls. All from Lucifer.

"Hm? What did he call me for? At 4 in the morning?"

Pondering, Sera tried to call back immediately with a small smile. But his number was unreachable, frowning she threw her phone inside her bag.

As the white car arrived at the huge gates of the magnificent Lu mansion, Butler Wu and Aunt Zhou were working in the garden. Seeing the car halt in the driveway, they almost sprinted inside to inform about Sera's return with big smiles on their faces.

Soon after an elated Lu Shanshan and Grandma Lu were waiting in the living room. They had warm smiles on, as they watched Sera walk in through the main doors.

"Grandmother, mother.. I missed you guys!"

A beaming Sera ran upto Lu Shanshan and Anna Lu, and hugged them both after greeting them. Huge smiles could be seen on the three faces as the glanced at each other.

"Aww, my precious granddaughter.. I missed you too"

Patting Sera's head and back, Anna Lu gave a peck on her plump cheeks. Her aged eyes upturned resembling crescents.

Watching her mother-in-law and daughter hugging and smiling, Lu Shanshan's face was practically glowing brightly like the sun in the blue skies.

"My precious, Sera.. Did you eat? I've made your favorite pancakes, wash up and join us on the dining table"

Nodding her head, Lu Shanshan took Sera's hand into her after she broke away from Anna Lu. She asked with a motherly tone, oozing with oodles of love and care for her darling daughter.

"Mother, thank you.. I'll be there in a jiffy"

At the mention of her favorite pancakes, Sera's eyes lit up akin to lightbulbs. Brimming with joy, she smacked a tender kiss on Lu Shanshan's cheek before descending the stairs.

Looking at her running figure, Anna Lu and Lu Shanshan exchanged glances and laughed merrily.

At the dining table, Lu Shanshan, Anna Lu and Sera were the only ones. Her father, Francis Lu was currently on a business trip to A Country.

"Mother, where's brother?"

Stuffing her mouth with the delicious pancakes, Sera quizzed.

"As usual, he's at the office.. I don't understand why this boy works so hard"

As Sera asked about Lu Jinan, Lu Shanshan's expression changed and she grumbled looking upset.

"Haha.. My grandson is really bright and excellent. If he doesn't work, then who'll take our Lu family's lineage and pride ahead..?"

In a pleasant mood, Anna Lu laughed as she praised Lu Jinan's prowess in the business world.

"Yes, mom.. You're right, but, Jinan is a workaholic and I'm afraid he'd never be able to lead a simple family life.."

With a slight grievance in her tone, Lu Shanshan nodded her head afraid of angering the matriarch as she said softly, seemingly hinting at Lu Jinan's marriage and children.

"Hmph! Don't talk nonsense.."

The originally bright smile on the old lady's face shriveled and she glared at Lu Shanshan before gulping her tea and slamming the cup.

Meanwhile, after the attempted assassination at the X City's underground racing event, Adrian immediately forced Lucifer to return back to B City, that very night.

Hence, Lucifer didn't get a chance to contact Sera, his phone was dead and he'd forgotten to bring his charger thanks to Adrian who was constantly rushing him. It was lame of him to control all his activities to this extent. Yet, the man could only grit his teeth and endure till they reach B City.

Once Lucifer returned back home, he instantly reached for the charger and recharged his mobile phone. He didn't wait for a second and dialed Sera's number at 4 in the morning, alas his joy was short-lived as she didn't pick his call.

How would she?

It was late and Sera was exhausted after a long day. So, naturally she'd be sleeping soundly in her bed unlike Lucifer, who was restless after their little steamy rendezvous.

Finally at 7, Lucifer shut his eyes after a few drinks, sprawled uncomfortably on the couch in the living room. He didn't wake up until Adrian came knocking on his door at noon, to send him back to Chang Holdings for the weekly meeting. He didn't even have time to check his phone as he was running a little late.

"Alright.. I'll see you in the evening"

Inside the blue Bentley, Adrian turned to Lucifer from the driver's seat with a faint smile. His blue orbs clear and bright, faded eyebags could be seen under his eyes.

"Brother, you can take a day off, you look tired"

Glaring at Adrian's tired looking face, Lucifer thought for a second before saying with a concerned tone.

"It's okay.. I'll call you"

Laughing, Adrian shook his head and mumbled gently.

"Hmm.. bye"

Nodding his head, Lucifer smiled as he alighted from the car and entered the establishment.

The meeting was scheduled at 2 in the afternoon and Lucifer had a lot of catching up to do.

Especially after the collaboration with Callista's 'C Group of Companies', which was important for Chang Holdings to flourish. It was currently half past one, Lucifer was buried in work as Assistant Xinglei gave reports and accounts along with the agenda of today's meeting. He then rushed to the meeting at exactly 2 o'clock.

On the other hand, Adrian had a rough night after dropping Lucifer at the penthouse. He checked a few things at the underworld, carried out investigation about last night's attack and was dead tired after reaching his den. And slept shortly after he slumped on his couch.

Next morning, a stiff Adrian woke up after 11 with a painful neck and hurried to Lucifer's house to pick him up. Knowing very well how tired his brother was, he'd most likely miss the meeting. And, his guess was right. A knocked out Lucifer was sprawled on the couch reeking of alcohol. He shook his head and approached the latter, urging him to get ready to leave for office.

Adrian was quite free after dropping Lucifer at Chang Holdings. So, he decided to make a trip to Su Yin's apartment and surprise her. He was planning to have a sumptuous and romantic lunch with his beloved. However, he was disappointed to find that she wasn't at home but her office.

Disheartened, Adrian made his way to Lillian's cafe.

"What nonsense! Why did I hire you if you couldn't even get me a simple thing?!"

"Useless bunch of trash! Get your cheque from my assistant and don't ever show me your face!"

Slamming the phone on the desk, Lu Jinan's face was stormy. His dark eyes were red.

Extremely infuriated, the man crumpled the piece of paper on which the antique looking, miniature painting easel of ROSE was printed.
