Chapter 64 - More Visitors
The topic of conversation changed with the combination of visitors.
With Souya and Doga, it was about an old friend from twenty years ago.
With Seran, the three men talked about the gloomy topic of the demon known as the Red Horn.
The main topic of the drinking party, including Louise, who became one of the red points, was exclusively a complaint about Louise’s work.
“…… I think Charlotte is the only one who is getting a good deal. She gets to work as a receptionist for a little bit, she gets to be called Charlotte-chan like a rare character, and she gets to be pampered …… Then I guess I’m a bad choice.”
I don’t know who’s the adventurer that called Charlotte a rare character, but I don’t think he has any ill will towards Louise, and I think she cares about it too much, Souya thought, but there may be a sense of pride in being a receptionist, or a sense of rivalry with Charlotte, who is in the same line of work.
Aside from the trivial grumbling about Louise, her mutterings indicated that her workload was as large as Souya had imagined.
In the adventurer’s guild in Ilstadt, it would be difficult to handle requests smoothly without her. The three men spent the majority of their time listening to her, hoping to relieve her of the resentment she had accumulated over the years.
(The image of a receptionist, huh …… Surely, in the adventurer’s tavern, this would be bad.)
Doga just nodded, stroking his beard, and Souya had to say something clever to her. He was used to this kind of thing in his work, but it was hard to be a lone soldier.
At first, Seran was giving the same kind of advice as Doga, but halfway through, he was half dozing off with his arms crossed. Maybe her complaining was boring to him.
Louise ended up opening most of the bottle of wine she had brought in by herself, and even though she had been depressed at first, by the time she had finished complaining, she was in a good mood. Before she knew it, she had taken off her green cloak, revealing a tight red dress that she had been reluctant to show earlier.
When Souya complimented her on it, Louise smiled happily and became more and more in a good mood. At this rate, she should be fine for work tomorrow. However, with so much to drink, he was a little worried about the delayed effects of a hangover.
A few hours had passed since Souya and Doga’s drinking party began, and the sun was setting outside the west window of the room.
Louise may have been tired of talking, but she didn’t say much, and it was time to call it a night. Souya buttoned up his suit on the backrest and thought vaguely about his plans for tomorrow.
It was then. The sound of horseshoes kicking the ground and wheels turning could be heard faintly from outside the city.
The sound seemed to be getting closer and closer to the workshop where the four of us were.
“Hmmm, …… a wagon. However, I don’t think I’ve ever ordered anything from a merchant, though.”
Doga mumbled nonchalantly, but the old man’s eyes were sharp and wary. Hearing this, the other three instantly went on alert, as if they had sobered up.
The sound of wheels stopping, the neighing of horses, followed by the sound of some landing footsteps.
“So this is the workshop of Doga …… and the security seems to be really poor. It’s a treasure trove.”
A man’s voice came from outside.
“According to my research, there’s only one old, senile, Dwarf. We’ll just take them all, and once we’ve taken them, we’ll get the hell out of town. We’ll be able to live happily for ten years.”
This was another man’s voice. From the number of footsteps, I could guess that it was a group of people.
“…… Oh my, they didn’t even bother to check the building, and just talked loudly about theft. This is a very stupid thing for a thief to do. I guess they’re not a trained thief.”
“You’re right. And I can assure you that the Thieves’ Guild’s Thieves’ would never lay a hand on Doga-san …… From the wagon and the way they were talking, I’d say they’re thieves from out of town.”
In contrast to the drinking party, Louise had a dignified expression on her face as she readied her two swords and prepared for battle.
She’s not wearing armor and she’s not dressed as an adventurer, but her form holding the two swords in her one-piece was quite good in itself.
“– Nevertheless, I think we should go out as soon as possible. We can’t let them get into Old man Doga’s workshop.”
Seran muttered, and picked up his own weapon, the one-and-a-half-handed bastard sword.
“…… Once a year or so. These kinds of idiots come …… Every time it happens, I turn the tables on them with my battle axe. But today is a good day …… Louise, can we make this a request to the Adventurer’s Guild?”
Doga made a request to Louise in the form of a request to the Adventurer’s Guild.
“Doga-san. If you can do that, it will help Souya-san fulfill his request, but …… is that okay? I think Doga-san alone can manage that kind of people.”
“I don’t care. I’m a blacksmith. So I’ll leave the fighting to the adventurers. One should do what they’re best at.”
Doga may have been trying to look after the bronze-class Souya. According to the guild’s rules, the newly bronze-class Souya must complete at least four requests before he can become a silver-class. If we can count this as an official request to the guild, we will have three requests left to complete.
The adventurer’s guild also wanted to promote those who were capable as soon as possible, while adhering to the rules in principle.
“So you’re assuming I’ll take it. Well, of course I’m going to take it. Louise-san, I’m glad you’re here as a receptionist.”
Soya thanked Louise and pulls out the mithril saber that he had received from Doga earlier.
Aside from being a little lighter than steel, it was as close as I’ve ever felt. I think I may have borrowed a good weapon for this.
“I guess I’ll have the three of you kick the stupid thieves to the curb …… What, I won’t say something like the reward is only a single silver coin, the request reward will be 20 gold coins per head. And how about two times of free weapon repairs?”
