"Let me drop you at your home."
Fan Bingbing shook her head immediately. She didn't want him to meet her after this dinner at all and so dropping her home was out of the question.
"It's late, Miss Fan, and I believe you won't get any cabs at this hour," Zhang Han said, his gaze still fixed at her face.
"Thank you for the dinner, Mr. Zhang but I really don't want you to drop me. My apartment is just two blocks away from the restaurant." She politely declined. She was not lying. Initially, she agreed to accompany him for dinner also for the reason that he had chosen the restaurant near her apartment.
"Then, let me walk you." Zhang Han was not taking no for an answer.
He removed his coat and grabbed a hoodie from his assistant. This way no one would be able to recognize him. He was now a famous celebrity, so he didn't want to create trouble for his manager. Moreover, he wouldn't want to give Fan Bingbing the impression that he was taking his security lightly as she was his boss's assistant too.
"You are really persistent, aren't you?" Fan Bingbing muttered and wrapped her hands around her body. It was a cold night and she was only wearing a dress.
Zhang Han grabbed the coat from his assistant's hand again and draped it around her. Fan Bingbing looked at him through her lashes as he wrapped his coat around her body for warmth. It smelt like him but didn't say anything and started walking.
They started walking towards her home but none of them spoke anything at all. Zhang Han was feeling comfortable in her presence even though his heart was beating loudly against his ribcage and on the other hand, Fan Bingbing was not so relaxed either.
He hurled a stone with his shoes and smiled. And at that exact moment, Fan Bingbing looked at his cheerful face. To say he was handsome, would be an understatement. He was hauntingly gorgeous. She had never seen a man so beautiful. She was not exaggerating because it was true. He was an indifferent kind of beauty. It didn't matter to him what the other person was doing as long as he was in his own created bubble. She didn't know what he was thinking when he suddenly confessed his feelings for her. Surely, she was shocked but she tried to handle the situation like a big girl she sometimes was.
"Aren't you afraid that any paparazzi will record you with me?" Fan Bingbing asked him.
He slightly glanced at him and let out a chuckle. "Nah. My boss employed one of the best employers!"
His comment made her smile. He was indirectly pointing out that she would get his ass out of trouble if he ever fell in one because of her, and he was not wrong either.
"Zhang Han?"
"Hmm?"
He didn't look at her because he knew whatever she was going to say next would break his heart. He truly liked her. He liked her from the moment he had seen her in Zhenyi's office and he didn't shy away from confessing his feelings for her once he was given the chance.
"You should not waste your time anymore."
He stopped walking and so did she as she felt him still beside her. She saw him standing proudly beneath the street light looking at her with unmistakable emotions in his eyes.
"Bingbing." Her name rolled off her tongue like molten chocolate. "Any time spent on you is not a waste of my time. In fact, I am more than willing to waste it if that's called my wastage of time."
"Time is precious and you shouldn't waste it. On anything or anybody," Fan Bingbing retorted.
"And you are a treasure." He shrugged. "Tell me how am I wasting my time?"
"Zhang Han, you are not understanding my point, are you?" Fan Bingbing asked with a sigh. " You're a very good man but you're not a man for me. I don't feel anything for you in a romantic sense. So, you're just wasting your precious time and energy."
"Will you spend all your life crying for a man who feels nothing about you?" His direct question pierced her heart.
"Zhang Han, it's not in my hands just like having feelings for me is not in yours. I don't know how deep your feelings are for me and neither do I want to, not because I am apathetic but because it will make me feel guilty knowing that I can't do anything about it. I have been where you are today. Been there and done that. And trust me, it ain't a good feeling at all. You have time, so please don't repeat the mistake I made all these years. Zhenyi has always been clear about it. Like a good friend, she told me I was wasting my precious life and time but I didn't listen to her then. So… Take care of yourself!"
"Bingbing--"
Fan Bingbing bowed and said," Thanks for walking me home and for such a great dinner. "
"You don't have to be modest, you know?"
Fan Bingbing didn't reply to him.
"Bingbing." He spoke again and when she looked up his eyes were filled with utter devastation but there was nothing she could do about it.
" My home." She pointed towards the apartment. "It was nice seeing you, Mr. Zhang."
She didn't stop and he didn't move. A
He saw her retreating back until she escaped his eyes.
He had not thought she would refuse him outright. Surely, he was of the opinion that it would be difficult to pursue her but he hadn't thought till then about the man she was hung on and his impact on her heart.
However, he refused to accept defeat. She was going to be his and he would make sure of it.
