Long Jie was strolling outside his bedroom thinking if he should enter or not. And Xin Yichen was watching him in entertainment. Good, his daughter was not easy to please but who asked this young lad to sadden her in the first place?
Remembering her devastating face, he had an urge to kill anyone responsible for it.
"Are you going to tell me what I should do right now?" Long Jie asked his father-in-law who was leaning against the wall, and a glass of wine in his hand.
Apparently, Tang Reine's tradition of drinking away the problems was being followed by him.
Xin Yichen casually sipped on his drink and shrugged. "Why should I tell you? It's not me who has screwed it up in the first place. Who asked you to hurt my daughter?"
"She is my wife too." Long Jie reminded him.
"She is my daughter first. Moreover, you can't solve the problem by prancing outside the room. Go in and talk to her. If she yells at you, take it as a good husband."
"Talking from experience, father-in-law?" Long Jie said sarcastically.
Xin Yichen pressed his lips in a thin line.
"I think I have a perfect idea." Long Jie grinned as an idea came into his mind and he glanced at Xin Yichen mischievously. "But, I need your help, Father-in-law."
Xin Yichen placed his drink on the counter and held up his hands in the air in sheer resignation. "Not going to."
"Yeah...yeah... you're…."

A Few Hours Earlier…
Long Jie approached Zhenyi and sat beside her. She was watching TV, however, she was not exactly watching it, just staring at it blankly. He sighed and took the remote in his hand to switch it off.
Sensing him close to her, she glanced at him in inquisitiveness.
"Want to go out with me?" Long Jie asked her. He couldn't bear to see her locked inside the same house for the last two months. They didn't want her to lock herself in the same house for such a long period of time but there was nothing that could convince her. So, he decided to take the matter into his hands.
"Why?" She sighed the word, her hands sweating profusely and her grip on the sheets tightened.
"Let's go out for dinner, what do you say?" He said and squeezed her arm.
"Umm… can we please go some other time?" She leaned away from his touch, keeping his eyes fixed on the television and to make it more real she switched it on again.
"Love, don't you think it's time to get 'our' time? We have been staying here for two months now and it's the first time that I stayed at the same place for more than a week in a decade. I don't mind staying further if you like it here, but we really need to spend some quality time with each other."
She chewed her lip because as much as she wanted to argue, he was right. They did need their time together but why did she feel like it was just an excuse? Indeed, Long Jie was just bluffing but he couldn't let her know about it. Right now, he had to get her out of this depressing room.
He propped his chin on her head and snatched the remote from her hand again and lowered the TV's volume to get her attention. "What do you say?"
"Can we please go some other time?" Her response was the same again. Sigh, what else was he expecting from her?
"When?" Long Jie raised the question. Of course, her 'some other time' wouldn't be coming anytime soon.
He hated how persistent he was being with her. Given the so-called circumstances, he didn't think it was that big of a deal for her to stay at home and do nothing and he certainly should take her strange behavior for a while longer. But apparently, he had reached her limit. She may have been hurt beyond words , but she was also doing nothing instead of hurting herself by wallowing in self-pity, which meant he had to take the matter into his own hands and get her out of it.
Zhenyi turned around and rested her head on his chest. He snaked his arms around his waist and let her rest in his embrace. "Umm...can we go after some time? Jie, I can't go out now. I am still ill, you see."
He broke out the embrace and paused the TV and threw away the remote before shifting his attention to her. He held her face in his hands and looked into her eyes before saying. " Now listen to me Zhenyi, you are not sick anymore. Just because you're convincing yourself otherwise, it won't change the fact." He paused and stroked her face gently. "Why are you doing this with yourself? You're destroying yourself, can't you see it."
"I destroyed everything," She whispered back.
"Zhenyi--"
"I'm sick, Jie. I'm sick." She showed him her hands and spoke. " You see the proof of my sickness. Just because I didn't die, it doesn't mean I am well."
"Zhenyi, you're not sick anymore. They are just scars, nothing else. It's proof that you survived the great battle against death. Look at you, see how brave you're. These scars shouldn't scare you, Love."
He didn't understand her. Nobody could and she knew it. These are not just scars. They are the proof like he said but not of her bravery, however of her cowardness. Each scar on her body was the reminder of her nightmares which were endlessly reminding her how she was the reason for the death of the people she loved the most.
So, they were not just scars. They were the reminders.
