She removed his hand from her body and looked at him with mixed emotions. Her eyes were burning but she managed to halt her tears.
"You don't understand." She shrieked. "Nobody does. I am not well. I am not right in the head, why can't you see it?" She leaned closer to him and shook his body in sheer force. Long Jie didn't know how her weak body was able to drag him out of the bed, but she did. " Go out. I said go out. I don't want to see you. I don't want to see anyone at all. Leave me in my condition, please."
She fell on the floor and looked at him through a tear-stained face. " I beg you. Leave me alone. Don't console me. I don't need it at all."
It was not his pity that was piercing her heart, it was her own guilt. She knew he wanted to help her only but she couldn't see him hurting because of her. She was hurting him so much and she was unable to do anything about it.
He gazed at her stone-faced. He did not know what wrong he had done or what was wrong with him, but all he knew was that something was stabbing his heart so sharply that he couldn't breathe. It was as if words were choked in his throat and he didn't even dare to utter.
What just had he done? This was what he was afraid of. He didn't want to push her too hard. But he did and now look at the result. He completely broke her. She was crying an ugly cry. Xin Zhenyi never cried and even Xin Yichen was aware of it.
But it was the second time, he saw her breaking down in front of him and worst of all, he couldn't console her at all.
He also wanted to shake her and ask her what had just happened to her? What was so powerful enough to shake her whole world? What was making her so weak? What had changed his Zhenyi? He wanted to know now more than ever.
"You want me to leave?" A whisper escaped his mouth.
She nodded slowly, the tears swimming in her lids, and she knew the moment she blinked they would stream down her cheek. She curled her mouth and looked away from him, trying to keep the tears at bay when she heard him whisper again. "Cat eyes, look at me." His voice sounded devastated as his whole world had shattered but it was not his world that truly shattered but hers.
So, she had every right to mourn it however she wanted.
"Zhenyi--"
Before he could finish his sentence, Xin Yichen's furious voice rang behind him. He saw Zhenyi sitting on the floor and Long Jie standing at a distance. His brows furrowed in confusion as to what had just happened to them. He was not planning on speaking between them but when he heard Zhenyi's wail, he quickly ushered towards their room. He just felt like something was wrong.
And his assumption was proven right when he saw Long's devastated expressions, but looking at Zhenyi's tear-stained face, he felt as if his world had stopped all of a sudden. A rage stirred inside his heart.
He walked towards his daughter and kneeled on the floor in front of her. He wiped her face with his fingers and caressed her hair gently.
"What happened to my princess?" He asked her, still wiping her face.
The lump in her throat almost felt painful as she attempted to swallow. She shook her head and buried her face in her father's chest. The familiar scent did something to soothe her nerves but not enough to get her back to sanity.
"I don't know. I'm not well. I just feel it sometimes," Zhenyi said, her voice cracking. "Can you all leave me alone please?"
"I promise I will be alright." She added, her head still in her father's embrace.
"Baby, you're scaring us. Do you know? Tell me who hurt you and I promise that I will hunt that person and then skin him alive." Xin Yichen's heart was filled with devastation. These two months had been very difficult for his family. He was trying to be a strong father in front of Zhenyi when he was internally breaking down. "What do you say, princess? Do you want your dad to punish all the bad guys for you?"
"I'm not a little girl. I am big now yet acting like five years old but I can't stop it. What do I do?" asked Zhenyi in a very small voice.
" So what! You can do whatever you wish. I won't stop you to do whatever you wish to do unlike someone we know," said Xin Yichen. It was his attempt to lighten the gloomy surroundings.
"Don't talk bad about him. He is still the best in the world," Zhenyi said in a complaint.
Xin Yichen smiled. He knew what Ryuu meant to Zhenyi. He was not just a big brother to her. He was someone who she could turn to every time she was in trouble, it didn't matter even if she could solve it herself. But she would just turn to him for the sake of reassuring her heart that she had someone who could make her problems go away with a click.
But now she needed someone who could make her realize that whatever had happened years ago, it was not her fault. There was nothing she could have done to change the fate of her mother, sister and knight.
It was inevitable.
