Chapter 833: Unexpected Arrival

“Grandpa!” Yvonne exclaimed with widened eyes when her gaze landed on the figure seated on the couch.

The St. Claire couple chuckled upon seeing her comical response but the child had not noticed their gleeful smiles.

When she heard her mother’s enthusiastic voice, her first reaction was to scan the room and the one she found was not someone she had expected to see here.

Therefore, her startled expression was evident on her face but it soon morphed into joy as she strode towards the new figure she had just discovered in this room.

Grandpa Valente grinned mischievously, enjoying the look of surprise he had brought to his granddaughter’s face as soon as their eyes had met.

Though when she came close to where he was seated, he opened his arms and pulled her in for a strong hug.

“Vonny has grown taller.” He pointed out while stroking her head, his actions were gentle, unlike Howard who had made a mess out of her hairstyle the last time.

.....

When the old man found that her hair was still damp, he asked the other person standing behind him to fetch a towel for the child.

This was when Yvonne noticed that there was someone else in this room with her grandfather.

Standing behind the old man was his Butler who had accompanied him to the Capital and soon after receiving his master’s command, he walked out of the room.

Butler Limo must have helped the other butler who had appeared here today and soon they returned to the Parlor with a clean towel.

Yvonne was made to sit next to the old man who personally helped her dry her hair despite Raylene’s suggestion of doing it instead.

“I never got the chance to do such things for them.” Grandpa Valente complained, silencing his daughter’s requests with these simple words.

After her marriage to Rutherford, Raylene had never returned to her maiden fief due to certain reasons which were now in the past.

However, this had caused the old man to miss out on numerous big events in her life after she had gotten married.

He had never held her newborn babies, did not get a chance to play with them, and neither had he watched them grow to the age they were now.

He had done all those things with Roman and Knox but had been deprived of the chance to do so for Howard and Yvonne, so upon hearing those words, Raylene chose to give up trying.

If Yvonne did not mind having her hair being towel-dried by her grandfather then she would not interfere as well.

Grandpa Valente smiled when he got to have his way and gently rubbed the towel against the little girl’s long violet strands.

“Did Uncle and Aunt not come?” Yvonne inquired, her mellow voice indicating that she was liking the gentle methods of the old man.

“Does Vonny not like me?” He retorted while pouting that her first thought was about the whereabouts of his son and daughter-in-law.

Yvonne could have easily uttered that she loved Grandpa the most but that would lead to her father, who was also in this room with them, burning with unbearable jealousy so she held her tongue and only shook her head to deny his claims.

Raylene chuckled when she saw how childish her father was being but at the same time, she too was curious to know more about it.

Earlier, she had been dealing with certain matters when her maid had hurried to inform her that a carriage had entered this estate.

Her initial assumption was that Howard had returned after meeting his friend, Sept, but the maid had once again reiterated that the carriage did not belong to their family but had the emblem of the Valente fief.

Grasping what this could mean, Raylene deduced that her brother must have returned to the Capital for some official business.

However, upon entering the Parlor where her husband and Butler Limo were already present, she too was baffled to find her father there instead.

This was truly unexpected as her brother had not sent word about the old man’s arrival and neither did she think that her father would be able to make such a long journey at this age.

However, her joy at meeting him was immense and she hurried to greet him before giving him a warm hug.

The jealous husband had snatched her away soon after, not allowing even her father to get too close to her.

The old man had sneered at his miser of a son-in-law but when he was greeted by the Earl, he still managed to keep his annoyance to himself and replied politely.

Wanting to dissipate the awkward air surrounding them, Raylene had first ordered Butler Limo to send someone to fetch Yvonne then brought her father to the couch, asking him to take a seat.

Next, her maids were instructed to fetch tea for the newcomers while she explained that Howard was not at home right now but would be arriving soon.

The tea was brought over immediately and as the old man sipped the refreshing tea, Raylene had held her curiosity inside to allow him a moment’s rest as the journey must have been tiresome.

Her wait had come to an end and just as she was about to question him, the door had been pushed open and the young girl had stepped inside.

Not able to hold in her excitement, Raylene yelled out which even surprised her but the child’s astonished exclamation had diverted their attention from her earlier outburst.

This brought them to the present and they all waited to hear what the old man would say next.

“I wanted to get away from the house for a while.” He muttered while shaking his head at what he had been through over the past few months.

Best

For the first time in many years, the Viscount and his wife had some privacy after the twins had relocated to the Capital.

This had led Marcus and Trisha to have a reawakening of their romance life all over again, leaving the old man to be caught up in the middle.

His son was a little too energetic even at this age and the absence of the twins had caused him to grow bolder than before.

Not desiring to be stuck between the sickeningly sweet pair, the old man wished to spend some time away from his estate which would also give the young couple the privacy they very much deserved.

His absence would give them a chance to spend quality time with each other so he was glad to leave for the time being.

With such noble intentions, Grandpa Valente had chosen to take a little vacation and go to the Capital, far away from his over-enthusiastic and partly shameless son.

However, he could not reveal such graphic details before the child whose hair he was wiping so he only spoke subtle words concerning his sudden arrival here.

“That boy and his wife can spend some time together and I get to be with all four of my grandchildren.” He disclosed his reasons which were also true in their own sense.

The twins were here and he had also heard that Howard would be in the Capital for a week or so.

He would have been here a lot sooner if it had not been for his butler who had taken his old bones into consideration and made it a point that they took breaks at moderate intervals.

However, the butler’s sensible decisions had caused him to be in good health even after their long journey hence he could not be too mad at him.

He could spend time with Howard for only a week but the others would still be around so this was a consolation for him.

When Raylene and Rutherford heard what he had to say, they had a vague understanding of what must have taken place back at the Valente estate.

Though what they did not know was that their little daughter had also deciphered the cause of her grandpa’s sudden appearance at the Capital.

However, she did not care about it and was excited that her Grandpa would be around for a while.

“How long are you planning to stay, Father-in-law?” Rutherford was the first to inquire, curious and even apprehensive about the answer he might hear from the old man.

If the old man stayed here for too long then Raylene would surely spend a large portion of her day with her father and forget all about her poor husband which was unacceptable to him.

With her hair covering half of her face, Yvonne rolled her eyes as she could already decipher what thoughts were going through her father’s head that he had asked this question right away.
