Chapter 273 - That's All You Did?

Inside the Parlor, three men sat on one side while a little girl sat on the other side of the couch.

'I feel like I am back in my office and these three are the nervous interviewees who have come to find a job at my company.' Yvonne chuckled when she made this odd connection to her past and present.

The little girl sat with her back straight as she scanned the three faces who were staring at her.

"Can someone explain to me as to why I was brought over here instead of letting me return to my bedroom?" She blinked her wide eyes while placing her question before them.

Her words were precise as they expressed her thoughts without mumbling or beating around the bush.

Marquess Samed and Captain Desmo were already used to her stern behavior but this was still something new for Rutherford.

He gazed at her intently while trying to comprehend what was so different about her right now compared to the times when she was with her family.

'This is the true face of your beloved daughter.' Desmo sneered when he caught the strange expression on his friend's face.

However, Marquess Samed had already learned his lesson and knew that there was nothing that could make the father stop doting on his child.

'She is a cunning one, I must say.' He praised her for managing to keep the family members oblivious to her smart and raw nature.

The little girl pressed down the impatience in her heart and smiled at the man who was her father.

"Papa?" She muttered which brought Rutherford's attention back to her as he forgot to figure out what was different about her.

Clearing his throat, he smiled at her before it was replaced with a thoughtful look.

"Vonna, tell us about what happened during the first trial." His words did not give her any chance to refuse.

The little girl could discern that there was something that they needed to say which depended on her answer.

Therefore, she did not waste any further time as she began narrating everything that has taken place during her first trial.

Rutherford's eyes widened with each word she said and the two men had similar expressions of shock.

Yvonne did not miss out on any detail as she spoke about hers and Demon's journey to and from the woods where the token was tied on a branch.

'So she had used Demon's sense of smell to help her find the token?' Marquess Samed praised her quick thinking which saved her some time.

As they continued listening, their frowns deepened when they heard about the part where the handkerchief was tied on a higher level than her reach.

The Earl's rage was building as he heard what she was saying and the memories of her injury in the Summer Estate were resurfacing once again.

"Demon was a good boy and did not move until I was safely seated on his back once again." She commended her etcher for following her every instruction.

Rutherford nodded but his grave expression did not change as he sat still to listen to her.

Finally, Captain Desmo nodded in eagerness when she came to the part where she and Demon rode back at a high speed to pass the trial.

"You wished to use Demon's powers and he agreed?" Captain interrogated excitedly once she was done with her narration.

Yvonne's nod brought a wave of unrest on the men's faces.

'What is it?' She wondered and tilted her head in her attempt to understand what was going on around her.

"What is so special about your daughter, Ford?" He turned and interrogated his old friend.

When Rutherford had asked him to train his frail daughter, he had refused straight away but changed his mind later on.

Now, he was glad that he had changed his mind or he wouldn't be able to witness this rare sight that had never taken place before.

Rutherford was equally stunned when he heard this answer from her but there was awe and pride on his face after hearing Desmos' confused inquiry.

"She's my daughter so I do not expect anything less from her." He boasted and shot her an amazed glance.

Yvonne was still unable to understand what she had done that they were praising her this way.

"I succeeded in the trials because of the training so there is nothing to be praised for that." She revealed in a puzzled tone.

However, her confusion was mistaken for humility which only improved her image in her father's eyes.

"That is not what we are talking about!" Sullivan interrupted and corrected her.

"Then?" Her clueless face made them chuckle together which brought out a pout from her.

"Yvonne, you controlled your etcher without knowing it!" Desmo disclosed the detail that she had been missing all along.

When the girl had requested her etcher to lend her his power, the beast had done just that.

The dormant power in Demon's body surged through her body and they began their ride back at a high speed.

An etcher's first time harnessing its powers could be considered as their awakening.

This was always considered to be a dangerous scenario as the situation could get out of hand at any moment.

The immense power could cause the beast to lose its senses as this would be its first time tasting such pure power.

Thus, it needed its master to help stabilize and control it.

The power in the beast needed to be controlled by its master and in this case, it was the little girl.

Since Desmo had not expected that she would need to use Demon's powers, he did not teach her how to control the true power of an etcher.

'What an irresponsible trainer you are!?' Yvonne glowered at the man who was caught red-handed being a bad teacher for the second time today.

"If I had known that any of this would have happened then I would have trained you harder!" Desmo gritted his teeth when he saw her glaring at him.

Yvonne however, did not believe his words as she turned towards Rutherford.

"Is that why Precious and Fryght rushed forward and blocked our paths?" She inquired and received a nod from him.

When they first caught sight of Demon running towards them at his monstrous speed, they could feel his powerful aura which indicated that he had used his powers.

This startled them as the safety of Yvonne and everyone around them was at stake.

Therefore, they had summoned their beasts without hesitating for a second.

However, their worried thoughts were not needed as the etchers weren't given a chance to put their powers to work.

"I was startled to see them block our path and commanded Demon to stop." She recalled and explained what she had done.

"That's all you did?" Rutherford furrowed his brows at her simple answer.

Her nod was causing them to question everything they knew about etchers and etched.

Even without knowing that she had made her etcher use his powers, she had controlled him with mere words.

This was shocking for them as it was never so simple when it came to the first awakening of an etcher.

However, the truth was right before their eyes.

Not only had she used Demon's powers she had also controlled him with a few words as this was what they had witnessed when the first trial came to an end.
