Chapter 274 - Demon Is Hurt?

"So you asked Demon to slow down and he did?" Captain Reel interrogated and in response, he heard a groan.

"For the tenth time, Captain. YES!!" Yvonne rubbed her forehead as she almost yelled her answer out.

This elicited a glare from her father who was frowning after seeing her lose her cool before the guests but in this instance, it was the guest who was at fault for annoying her.

After all, she had already answered that same question multiple times earlier.

However, every time he would come back to the same question as though he could not believe what she was saying.

Bowing her head in apology to her father for the mistake she had made of raising her voice, she managed to douse his anger.

Now that she had dealt with him effortlessly, she turned her sights to the man who was questioning her without rest.

'Looks like he won't believe me unless I do this.' She calmed her raging heart and smiled at him in an amicable manner.

"How about we go outside and take a ride on our etchers, Captain?" She proposed as her method to get the doubting man to believe her words.

Listening to her suggestion, Rutherford felt a bad premonition before she could even finish what she had to say.

"We can race our horses and see whether Demon listens to my commands or not." She announced what she had planned for them.

These words brought out a stern shake of the head from her father who straight out rejected her suggestion.

"You used Demon's power because you needed him at that moment but this doesn't mean that you will abuse his power as per your wishes." He rebuked her careless attitude towards her etcher.

'And she might hurt herself too.' He concealed this reason which was also a major cause for refusing her.

Yvonne could be considered a novice when it comes to matters regarding the etchers, so it was acceptable that she was ignorant about them.

"Once an etcher uses their powers, no matter how small an amount, they would be fatigued and need to recuperate to get back their utilized power." He educated her in a gentle tone to let her realize where she had been mistaken.

This information hit the little girl like a storm as she widened her eyes at the men.

"Demon is hurt?" She questioned in bewilderment and began to panic for the wellbeing of her pet.

'He was alright when I left him so did something happen after the first trial?' She wondered and squirmed restlessly in her seat.

She spent every morning with her beast so how could she not be worried about his health and overall well-being?

He was the pet that she had taken under her wings and vowed to protect and keep him safe.

So, her panic after being told that Demon might be injured was great.

Rutherford shook his head and let out an amused chuckle after noticing her changing expressions.

"Not hurt but weak. He needs time to recover his lost energy so no races for today." He corrected her and watched as she let out a sigh in relief.

'As long as he isn't injured.' She nodded and looked up at her trainer.

"What was the reason I was brought here? To discuss how I controlled Demon?" She inquired while fixing her eyes at him.

Before Captain Desmo could reply, she spoke again without allowing him to utter a single word.

"All I did was ask Demon to slow down and he did. I have no clue as to why he did not lose his senses as most etchers do after their awakening." She explained in a brief and precise sentence.

Once she had finished her part, it was clear that she was just as clueless as them.

'But I must say that she seems to be lucky in everything she does.' Marquess Samed surmised as he gazed at her.

Even without her making an effort, she was handed things that most could only dream of.

His student was becoming more of a mystery to him each day that he spent with her, teaching her.

Rutherford also had similar thoughts about this matter but chosen to remain silent about it.

The reason why he had called his daughter over was to discuss two matters.

One of them had been resolved while the other just needed her clarification which she had given to him without her realization.

"Vonna, you may go back to your room and rest for now." He permitted her to leave which received an eager nod.

'I need to check on Demon first!' She jumped off the couch and curtsied to the three men before striding out of the room.

Butler Limo held the door open for her and Rutherford with the two tutors glanced at the back of the little girl as she ran once she stepped out of the room.

"Keep an eye on her." The Earl commanded which was meant for his faithful Butler.

Butler Limo bowed and followed his Young Miss as she ran towards the entrance of the mansion.

The Parlor was filled with silence once she had vacated the room.

Captain Desmo glanced at his side to find that his old friend's eyes were looking out of the window.

"What do you intend to do with that servant?" He inquired while rubbing his chin.

Earlier, when they were discussing matters concerning Demon's awakening before lunch, the Butler had brought something to their notice.

This was one of the reasons why they had decided to speak to the little girl once they were done with the lunch.

When Rutherford had asked her to reveal what had taken place during the first trial, she had done just that.

While doing so, she had disclosed how the token for the trial was tied out of her reach and she had struggled to get her hands on it.

"He dared to try and sabotage my daughter's trial then he deserves a fitting punishment." Rutherford spoke through gritted teeth as his anger rose once again.

Butler Limo had informed them that a few servants were discussing something in secret and when he questioned them, they folded and revealed some shocking information.

The gossip he heard was that someone had messed with the first trial.

The someone was the servant whom Howard had commanded to tie the handkerchief on a random tree branch in the woods.

Therefore, he had chosen a tall tree for this purpose, and even the branch on which he had tied the cloth was one which was out of the child's reach.

The maids who had eavesdropped on the servant boasting about it to his colleagues were caught by the Butler while they were discussing it among themselves.

Union interrogating them, they spilled the beans and Limo was quick to relay this information to his Master.

"Where is that servant now?" Marquess Samed queried as he was curious what the fate of such an impudent servant might be.

"Where he deserves to be." Rutherford's euphemistic and vague answer ran chills down their spine.

After all, who did not know how cruel the Earl could be to the people who dared to cross him.

'And that foolish servant had tried to scheme against his beloved daughter.' Desmo sneered at the man who had dug a deep pit for himself, one which he would not be able to climb out of.
