Cole had a lot for think about, and being in the house really wasn't helping matters, so he left his room, and let his thoughts wander as he went around the house completely lost in thought. Things had really taken a weird turn it he had to be honest, and he wasn't so sure antagonizing his grandfather had been one of his brightest ideas.
But then again the old man was completely at fault, many times in the past it was always obvious that there was extreme tension between both sides of the family, and as the head he should have addressed it, he should have nipped it in the bud.
If there was any enmity to be had it should have been between both his wives and perhaps his children, but he had chosen to ignore it as if the problem would go away and everything would be okay. Cole knew how much the old man dotted on him, his was a special case, but the rest of his family from his father to his brothers had all been strictly handled by him.
There was nothing like that for the other family, and even though it hurt, Cole's side had kept the faith and trusted in the old man, even when it was obvious as hell he was partial in his love for his family. This shitty situation should have been something their side caused, but the other fuckers were not just satisfied with his love for them, heck Cole knew his side of the family were not so shallow and money based that they gave a damn about the fortune of the family.
His side of the family had good heads on their shoulders and they would have been able to make their way out in the world and live comfortably. Yet here we are…. It was by this point Cole realized that there was not going to be peace, not even if a scape goat was offered. There would be a civil war and the entire family would be divided into two camps and his grandfather would be caught in the middle and expected to pick a side, or the old man could stay neutral…. But he won't…Cole knew being neutral was not an option.
"are you going to remain standing there or are you going to come in, make sure to take you shoes off Cole Kun, this is a holy place." Cole was startled, he had no idea he had walked all the way to the Family's chapel/shrine.
He walked in, making sure to leave his shoes behind as he made the sign of the cross then walked in with his head bowed. His grandmother was Japanese, and while the Night could be considered a Christian family there was a meshing of two cultures since the night family had Japanese roots in the first place. This was a Shinto temple, just as it was a Buddhist temple and a Christian chapel. And all were beliefs the Night family held close to their hearts.
The Matriarch was dressed in a black kimono, there were no adornments on her, save for the rosary in one hand and the prayer beads in the other. There were dark circles under her eyes, as she sat in front of a small shrine that held the pictures of his brothers with a few joss sticks lit in front of it.
"So you finally found your way to me… I was going to respect your wishes Cole Kun and give your grandfather the week that you gave him…. It was our mistakes of not trusting and guiding your properly as family that led you to leave in the first place…. Especially since your spirit didn't mesh well with young Tehilla.
Though now I understand it was just instinct…. I did orchestrate and pushed for the engagement between the both of you to. Make sure you had a strong and hard woman to give all your excess energy direction. But you have never been one to be controlled, power called to. You like are like a moth to a flame and you were made for it…..you can smell control from a mile away and will never be susceptible to it. Regardless of the past…. Right now, this very moment… why are you here?" She asked him as she turned around and looked at him.
She was looking a bit aged, but even at that she was and still is a beauty unlike another. While Cole had a darker skin color than the rest of the family, he had her eyes, and her lips. Two of her most defining features.
"I don't know Obasan…. My feet just seemed to have dragged me here." Cole was not too surprised that she already knew what was going on, there wasn't much that happened in this household that she doesn't seems to know about already. Not even his grandfather could hide secrets from her which showed just how powerful and terrifying she was.
"I think you know why you are here, in fact you explicit knew where to find me even though you've had no intention of coming to see at the moment. Should I tell you why? It's because I terrify you don't I?" Cole swallowed, hard.
He was remiss to admit it, but she was right as rain. She scared him, she scared him so damn much. Her eyes were always so bright, but whenever he looked at her he felt like he was being hunted. He felt like he was pieces in a chess game that was being moved around with no choice of his own."
"I'm your grandmother Cole…I brought your father into this world, you don't have to fear me. All I want to do is make you strong and keep you all safe. You are supposed to learn at my feet, study and Understand the way the world works, but your fear led you to your grandfather, now perhaps it had led you back to me….or is it your anger?"
Cole did not have a good enough answer for that, but she was right. He needed more cards on the table, especially when it came to the matter of his family. Things were not as they seemed, and be honestly could not just get up and leave, even though he could….he already did that once before and it didn't work out well.
Plus there was no two ways around the matter, his brothers were murdered, and it was done by family. Justice must be served, but by the time this is done the family would be so fractured that it would be the end of it, and Cole really didn't want to see that happen. He couldn't trust his grandfather to make the right choice…. Or rather make the choice that would satisfy his anger and bloodlust, so he came to the person who could… now he knew why he had unconsciously found his way here…. It was to make a deal with the Devil.
"It doesn't seem as if things will get better, the best thing to do would be to split the family, but even if that happens this fight will not end. And grandfather can not solve it, it really won't end now until one side is completely destroyed. I didn't give a shit about your politics, or the fact that actions you took years ago is what is now biting us in the ass, but regardless if you didn't take those actions I wouldn't exist so while it was diabolical, you are my family. They are too, but they have chosen to be a different camp…. And I don't spare enemies so that they can plot behind my back.
I want payback, I want revenge, and after that…..I want everything. So you've gotten me now, even though I'm growing stronger I can't handle this on my own. The family will be destabilized, I need directions, I'm hoping they're innocent but….. the chances of that are slim to none. You had come up from nothing and became the most powerful figure in this family…. I want you to teach me how to do the same… but this time to the rest of the world."
"hehehe, well Cole Kun my sweet grandson. You are already on the right path, but you need connections and you need to grow beyond and larger than the Night name this event and weird super powers it is giving will help, however you need more. Especially if you want to make sure the Cole family doesn't fall apart after you clean house… Thoroughly!"
All of a sudden the temple seemed to get a bit colder. This woman was recognized as one of the most dangerous of her generation and someone had to go and kill two of her eldest grandsons. Even Cole with his temper was not that stupid, now he realized that he was just being naïve.
Even if his grandfather had found a way, his grandmother would not stop until blood was split, and from more than one body. And that was saying something because after all the Night Family slogan of Family is Forever had been coined by her. She was going to burn everything to the ground.
"What do you need me to do?" Cole asked. Super powered abilities or not he was not invisible, not yet anyways. And he really couldn't move against Micah and his family and the other groups involved in this. He needed power equal to what his family could bring to the table to do that, and his grandmother could help him with that.
"I need you to do two things first. 1 is go back into that game and get that Atmospheric Base…. It would do my old bones some good to live in the skies don't you think? Like those big conglomerate bosses. Also do make sure anything you do or find out now, you tell me first. After all it was I who told your grandfather about the slots available for the event from the fifth floor. And secondly, with no argument out of you Cole, I will announce your reengagement to Tehilla, and you both will have your wedding in a month. All I can say is if you want power, real power, then you will need her by your side. Love can come along later, now boy leave me so that I can pray and decide the most probable place to burry the bodies of the fools that thought killing my grandbabies was a good idea."
