How? How are you still alive?" Mara growled at Alexandra.
Her mind was racing, trying to pick up on some detail that would let her understand how her former subordinate who was really a spy had survived.
At the same time, she was also looking for a chance to escape. Keeping the conversation going was a way for her to continue stalling.
"Hm, the only ones that know about this little trick are Boreas and Gwyneira, but I suppose I can enlighten you since you're already beaten."
Raising her right hand, a strange purple mist began to emit from Alexandra's body. Quickly it began to shape itself, and once it was finished another Alexandra was standing there.
"This is my Supreme Skill, Flawless Clone. Technically she was the one that was with you the entire time and got eaten by that demon lurking around your base." Alexandra said, proudly showing off her strongest power.
It was thanks to her Flawless Clone that she was able to do her job as the Head Royal Investigator so well. Even when having to go on the most dangerous of missions, she had another version of herself that could go in her stead.
"There you go, making it sound like all the misfortunes I've had to endure are not your problem. This last time was the worst. Do you know how awful it felt to be eaten by that thing? It was worse than that time I was dissolved by a slime. Seriously, I'm going to go on strike if you keep this up.
You can go put yourself in mortal peril from now on." Alexandra's Flawless Clone said while wearing a disgruntled expression.
Despite the two sharing the same consciousness and memories, they technically had their own individuality, and continued to argue with each other as Mara watched in bafflement.
'That's right, I'm not going to survive anyways.'
In the depths of despair, Mara figured out a way to escape. She would not live, but at the very least she would not be forced to divulge any information about the organization she had devoted her life to.
Reaching into the concealed pocket sewn into her shirt, Mara pulled out an object that was wrapped in a bundle of golden cloth.
Seeing this, Alexandra and Boreas watched her warily. They were prepared to crush any resistance that Mara attempted. There was a huge gap between them in terms of level and their target was already worn out. Nothing she could do at this point should have proved to be a threat to them.
"Hehehe. I may have lost, but in the end, the results will be the same. My Lord will descend upon this world and the two of you will be nothing more than insects with which he can do as he pleases. Just know that when your time comes, I will be laughing at you from beyond the grave."
Understanding what Mara's words meant, both Boreas and Alexandra moved to intercept her.
However, the moment she revealed what was hidden within the golden cloth, they froze for just a moment.
In Mara's hands was a long blue spine that released a truly fearsome presence. Enough so that even Boreas and Alexandra flinched.
Undoubtedly it was a piece of the Primeval Demon that Mara served, and without hesitation she thrust the sharp spine into her heart.
Immediately Boreas took action. Moving so fast that he seemed to disappear, he pulled the spine out of Mara while making sure not to touch it. Then in the same motion, with his other hand, he pulled out a true elixir from his item box and splashed the liquid onto Mara.
At a blinding speed the hole in her heart was mended and her body was restored to peak condition. Yet, there was still not a spark of life remaining within her. Mara's soul had been torn from her body and sent directly to the Primeval Demon that she worshipped.
