Chapter 150 Lich’s Factory (5)

"They are not humans… but… ah…" Jake finally realized. "It makes sense… of course, humans aren't the only ones that can use the system and receive those quests."

Jake wondered why he never thought of that after leaving Earth. It was only natural that humans wouldn't receive such nice treatment alone. With that in mind, Jake decided not to join the fight. He had no reason to get involved with allies… although he was also an alien from the perspective of the people of that world.

After looking at things from afar, Jake saw the liches being easily defeated by those six guys. It was only natural given the level of the liches, and it was a pity that Jake couldn't see the status of that other party.

"I shouldn't use Appraisal too much on them… otherwise, they will realize that someone is watching them, someone who isn't one of the liches," Jake thought.

Mental Armor could hide the status of the user, but the cost was some mana, and it was based on the level of Mental Armor against Appraisal. Regardless, Jake didn't have to do that. He just had to watch things for a while longer. He had to confirm if the mission of those guys involved something else.

Unfortunately, or perhaps, fortunately, those guys disappeared after being thanked for a short while by the villagers and defeating the liches. It seemed that Jake found the reason why the liches left that village alone for a while. Still, now he had another thing to worry about.

"Since other species can accept the quests as well, they must be aware why the liches are doing this…" Jake thought and then sighed. "Because of some stupid assholes, the repuration of human species is already sinking."

Jake wasn't certain, but perhaps humans had the chance to accept that quest instead of others in order to clean the mess caused by their own species. At that point in time, there was no denying that the system wasn't just a mindless program.

On the way back, Jake had a lot of time to consider things. Leaving things as they are, without a doubt, will be troublesome for him. He couldn't just clear that quest and forget about the real problem… The fact that some people were causing problems. Maybe it was just a one-time occurrence, but Jake should investigate things more profoundly before deciding that.

At that point in time, delaying his attack would only spread the word that some humans caused problems, so Jake decided to rest until morning and then attack the base. That should be the time that they usually sleep, so it was his best chance.

"This sucks…" Jake thought.

When the time came, Jake felt really annoyed, and only a few things could piss him off so much… he was basically doing a cleaner's job. In the end, thanks to that, he felt really compelled to look for the assholes who caused the whole situation. Nevertheless, he cleared his mind when he began to head to the enemies' hideout with both swords in his hands.

Much to his surprise, Jake didn't find any guards at the entrance. The place was basically like the first part of a dungeon, but it was slightly going downward in a spiral path. It was impossible to see what lies in more than five meters away, so Jake kept his ears open.

Although he felt like he crossed several hundred meters, he didn't find a single lich… he didn't want to believe that they could be that careless or so confident that their hideout was that good… Nevertheless, after a couple of minutes, he finally felt that some enemies were nearby and that the spiral tunnel was going to end.

It felt like a large area would be ahead, and that seemed like a problem since Jake could be surrounded by the liches. If possible, he wanted to take them out one at a time in the tunnel, but that was probably asking too much…

"Well, I can always lure them to the tunnel… they hate humans so much that it seems that their brain cells will stop working due to rage," Jake thought.

As soon as he approached, Jake truly saw the silhouette of two cloaked figures at the end of the tunnel. While he wasn't good at fighting while holding two swords, he got quite good at using both of them alongside Mana Blade, so in a single moment, he aimed and then fired.

Those two liches lost their heads, and their bodies fell to the ground. Jake approached once again since it seemed that no one noticed his attacks, only to find a massive hideout in front of him. It probably had been excavated by the use of magic… Nevertheless, despite not having many sources of light, the place was quite well-lit. That was because Jake saw several tables that were being illuminated by blue crystals, and in each one of those, there was one of those people with pointy ears being operated by the liches. Everything was silent because they were removing… no, they were changing their original hearts for a small purple crystal.

"Things are accelerating real quick here… why I feel like I am in the laboratory of a mad scientist now?" Jake thought.

Jake looked in the distance and then saw some capsules where the inhabitants of that world were sleeping. Those capsules were connected to some machines, and those were feeding them with some kind of purple gas. Jake didn't have much time to research about the technology in that world. Still, based on what he saw, he could tell that the technology there was ahead of the time… in the corner of the massive complex. Jake saw some cages with the inhabitants of that world, and they were sleeping soundly.

"What the hell is this place…" Jake thought.
