When they tried to fly away, Jake summoned the katana and then used Bash and Throw to impale the monsters. He probably had to find a better way to use his weapons than throw them away at the enemies in such moments, but at least he killed them. He could think of better combinations once the mission ends, right now, he has to stick with that it works.

"Trying not to be too over reliant on Mana Blade is quite a pain, but I suppose it can't be helped since it is basically a skill made of mana…" Jake thought. "It wouldn't be that effective on them."
Before other monsters could approach, Jake went to check the bodies of those creatures. They still were emitting a lot of heat, so he burned himself when he touched their beaks and claws. Still, over time, they began to lose their temperature… which wasn't surprising. Still, it was disappointing that Jake wouldn't be able to use them as weapons somehow. Without their mana, they were basically ordinary beaks and claws.
Although Jake wanted to test if they tasted good, and he really wanted to eat some meat since it had been a while, he decided to wait until midnight. Things were already hot as they were without him eating some firebirds. He also wondered if crows were supposed to be animals that people eat or eat… he never heard of that. Nevertheless, they weren't the same as the ones from Earth, so he will have to investigate that by himself.
It didn't take long for Jake to find another group of crows… the dungeon was nowhere in sight, and he was supposed to find an army of monsters around. That was a clear sign that the number of monsters was going to be insanely high nearby his destination. That was the type of challenge that Jake truly liked, but he will have to think of better ways of hunting those beasts, or he might fail the quest.
Although that seemed really bothersome, Jake equipped his rapier when the new group flew to attack him up close. It was only natural that they wouldn't follow the same pattern as the first group. In any case, Jake stepped forward at the last moment to attack one of them and escape from the other three. At the same time, he used Sonic Blows and Freezing Touch with the rapier while aiming at the creature's head. Thrust attacks weren't something that Jake was used to, but he didn't miss a single one. Thanks to his combo, he froze the target's head and then killed it. Even though it cost some extra stamina, Jake got satisfied with the result.
"I can use these in some drastic situations… but my stamina regeneration won't keep up with that," Jake thought. "Even more so considering there is an army of them waiting for me ahead."
Jake has been diligently raising his recovery, but as one parameter that increased his survivability and three other parameters, it was only natural that it would be the one that would grow the slowest, even with high numbers.
Regardless, while Jake was pacing himself, he found the ember crows trying to fight at a distance more often than not. Thanks to it, he wasted some time winning those battles. He tried to speed things up by combining Mana Blade and Freezing Touch, but it didn't work. That being said, he found it that he could combine Freezing Touch with Bash and Throw. As long as the weapon hits the head of the enemy, it could kill them. However, throwing his weapons still was a fundamental problem.
"I can always use some throwing knives, but it would be disrespectful if it were to try to copy Guts that much," Jake thought.
In any case, the sun began to set in that world after a couple of hours, and the temperature began to drop. Jake felt thankful for that until the desert started to become a bit too chilly… It was the perfect chance to test if the crows could be eaten or not, so he stooped to rest and have dinner.
"Their flames keep them warm, but they don't stay that active at night, it seems," Jake said after checking things toward the direction he was heading.
Jake had a hard time finding enough good around to start a fire and cook a single crow after taking all the feathers and skinning the monster. After cooking it up, Jake confirmed that the meat was a bit rough, but it wasn't half bad. It actually resembled chicken… naturally. Nevertheless, Jake felt that he needed to put more spice in his food nowadays. Perhaps the magic herbs can do that… the blue angel leaves had a taste similar to lemon when he tried to make potions out of them, after all.
"I suppose I should use one magic box to store some meat," Jake thought. "Who knows when I will find edible monsters as well."
Although Jake was liking that adventure, he was starting to feel that he should do more on his time-wasting than laying under a tree… he had to have a real home. A place where he would truly feel relatively safe and comfortable. He didn't know if it was because he got too relaxed after that day's fighting or if he truly felt like having a place to call home.
In the end, Jake assumed that it was due to both reasons. He got too relaxed now that he filled his body with something else aside from fruits. Getting what they won't make people feel less tense and more relaxed, even if for a short while… With that in mind, Jake assumed that it would be better not to have what he wanted often. He needed to keep his battle mode for as long as possible. The last time he relaxed too much, he got ambushed, after all.
