Chapter 165 Mistery (4)

Jake didn't have time to waste, so he only rested until midnight before he headed toward the enemy's territory. He was quite certain that they would be weaker at night with all that cold, so Jake had to use that chance to decrease their numbers.

After his approach, Jake noticed that some of the crows were resting at the top of some boulders. Flying all day and emitting that much energy was only possible due to the sunlight. At night, they had to conserve their energy. Despite that, they weren't sleepy, so approaching them and hoping for an ambush was unlikely to succeed.

"I guess I will throw my swords at them again," Jake thought.

Jake could see some enemies in the distance, so from that point onward, he will have to circle around the area while decreasing their numbers if he wanted to defeat them without being surrounded by an army. Maybe it would be fine to be surrounded… If they weren't flying enemies that had decent long-ranged attacks.

Jake approached his next targets by the side, and then he used his katana and freezing longsword as projectiles. It would be better to buy a lance the next time… Even if he still had the greatsword in his hands… In any case, Jake never had to use that weapon. His throws actually killed the ember crows in a single strike and prevented them from making any noise since he targetted their necks from the side. It was quite the bloody way to kill them, but it worked well.

"I guess the only downside of operating like this is the fact that I can only kill two or three of them per minute," Jake thought. "That is more than what the dungeon can spawn, but… this is the best option I have for the time being."

While he was hunting, Jake was thinking of what else he could do. Still, there wasn't much considering his set of skills. He focused on learning passive skills and weapons that increased his parameters, so it is only natural that he wouldn't have many of them. Fortunately, Jake began to increase his luck once as soon as he arrived in that world to improve his drop rate, so things were getting a bit better for him.

"Not that useful here… but it will be in other places," Jake thought and then shrugged.

While Jake was moving around the area of the ember crows, he noticed that their territory wasn't that large. Considering that the dungeon break was going to happen in five days, he imagined that not many parties had come to hunt those beasts. That weather was supposed to be pretty unpopular, after all. Hellish hot during the day, and freezing at night… however, there is the fact that the reward for clearing it is a special class, so some parties must have appeared recently.

Around the time the sun was rising, Jake noticed that he had gotten quite close to the dungeon. Aside from a few stray monsters here and there, the vast majority was guardian of a giant rock that was two kilometers away from him. It wasn't even a mountain… it was a five hundred meters tall rocks… Jake wondered why that didn't sink on the ground since it wasn't that large.

"Whatevs…" Jake thought and then looked around. "I suppose I will have to fight agaisnt several of them at the same time. Fortunately, this area seems like a pretty good place to do that."

Jake could see several boulders around. Not only could he use them as shields, but he also could use them to gain extra mobility. Running over them should be straightforward with his physical abilities, and then he could leap higher and reach the monsters, taking several of them by surprise.

Still, Jake felt that he needed something more, he had counted on his luck to obtain a few spears here and there, but he didn't get any. Instead of that, he got two axes that increased his strength by ten points each. No other effects. They were too big to be used as throwable weapons…

"When I need extra range and mobility, those aren't the weapons that I need…" Jake thought.

While Jake was thinking about that, he wondered if he couldn't just reforge the axes with his Flames of Wrath. It didn't seem like it was impossible, but… Nevertheless, he began to use the flames to see if he could cut some parts of the head of the ax and make spearheads with them. Although he might make the weapons beyond usable, he didn't care since they were useless, to begin with.

Regardless, it took some time, but the flames began to feel the iron and cut the head of the first ax. If the flames could do that much, it certainly could melt the iron and turn it into something else. However, Jake didn't have any tools or magic to cool down and harden the iron, so he just 'cut' the iron and made other things… shurikens.

"I can't see their information with Appraisal, I guess the system doesn't recognize them since I made them in a weird way," Jake said. "Well, this will work."

Jake didn't want to copy Guts throwing knives, but it would be fine if he used shurikens, right? With that kind of thought, he forged several of them of them. They were naturally heavy, so Jake just focused on making them as sharp as possible.

"Hopefully, they won't melt before I recover them…" Jake muttered when he finished that.

Jake checked the area ahead again and confirmed that he would have to find a way to lure only a few of the monsters toward them. Half of them were resting on the ground while the other half were flying and all of them formed a single defensive like that was impossible to ignore.
