Jake frowned when he saw those… The effects couldn't be mastered and obtained like usual, so those items seemed weird enough as they were. However, the effects were completely different from anything he had seen until now. Something was off... even if it had been forged by humans, the weapons were supposed to give some effects since the system recognized them.

"Was this forged by humans?" Jake thought. "It doesn't make sense that only one of them had this type of equipment… What is going on here?"

Those items were too flashy, so Jake wasn't planning to use them. Also, since they belonged to the criminals, some of their allies might recognize Jake as a threat if they see him using that. In any case, he was almost certain that those items would be useful in the future. He will risk revealing himself and causing problems with misunderstandings, but it was better than letting the items fall into the wrong hands and cause even more. It was the lesser of two evils. that was for sure. In any case, he stored them.

"Well, this will eventually be useful," Jake thought.

In the end, Jake worked on grinding against the undead trents until the morning of the next day. After that, he began to prepare to clear the dungeon. Since he had used all of them already, Jake bought some extra potions for the boss alone. A set of fifty health, fifty mana, and fifty stamina potions. He never used more than ten of those against the same enemy until now, but it was better to be careful.

The dungeon's interior was troublesome because of the vines and the plants that covered the walls, the ground, and the ceiling. Still, since Jake used Boomerang Shield to get rid of the trents whenever they showed up, nothing major happened while he was going down. The only problem was the smell around… The dead plants already smelled bad enough, but Jake could feel an even more powerful one as he approached the final part of the dungeon. The smell also decreased his health now and then and made his senses weaker.

Jake found the boss when he reached the dungeon's last part. As expected, it was a massive trent that emitted toxic gas just by breathing. The longer that fight lasts, the more trouble he will have to face. He did well in bringing that set of potions. Even if he goes all out, Jake will have a hard time killing the monster as fast as he wants.

"Tch… This will be a pain," Jake thought.

Jake had experience fighting monsters by himself, so he could tell that the boss in front of him was bad news. It was perfectly clear that it was a monster made for a large group to face. It had a large area of effects spells, it could debuff the enemies, it had high defense… All that was necessary to create a tough boss that would require the cooperation of many fighters to kill. Fighting that thing will be Jake's largest challenge yet… Perhaps even tougher than figuring Vare.

"Perhaps I should stay here for a while and let the monster's poison level up my resistances…" Jake thought.

That was the smartest thing to do, but Jake was stupid enough to look for a challenge, even in situations like that where a single mistake could cost his life. On the other hand, he will get better if he survives that tough battle. The more hardships he endures, the stronger he will get, after all.

"Yeah… I can do that to make sure that the poison won't get me at full power every time," Jake thought.

Jake had one day on how to improve the odds for him, so he felt even more confident in the fight, which made him enter the last part of the dungeon despite the danger. Although the boss couldn't move much with its current size, the creature soon noticed Jake's presence and then used Putrid Fruits like a machine gun to hit him. However, Jake sidestepped and evaded those while he approached. At that distance, Jake wouldn't be hit, and the creature knew that, so the monster took a deep breath and then increased the amount of poisonous gas in the area.

What the creature didn't expect was that Jake would hit his sword on the ground to create a shockwave that would disperse the poison in front of him, creating a path almost free of the enemy's spell. Jake dashed toward the creature and then used Boomerang Shield.

Jake's shield almost hit the face of the mosnter, but the creature used its vines to block it. Unlike the ordinary undead trents, the vine of that one was more numerous and thicker. So, even with all that spinning and piercing power, the shield returned to Jake without causing much damage. Still he was fine with that. As long as he cut those down, he will have one less thing to worry about.
