In the next moment, the whole group appeared in the desert near the mummies pyramid. That was their next mission, but they didn't expect that they would choose it so soon. The whole group had a lot of questions to ask, but they all knew who would make them. Lana was quite flustered, which was normal, but it was more than usual. So, she stepped forward.
"Boss… Was that all true?" Lana asked.
"I told you many times, I am not your boss, and yes… It was all true," Frederick said. "You guys won't have many chances or time to absorb all that, though. That might be a good thing or a bad thing, and it will depend on yourselves."
"What does that mean?" Louise asked.
"It means that you have two options, do nothing and wait for something that you don't know how it will affect you, or do something that can help you," Frederick said. "You guys have potential, but you need something else… You need to despair a little."
"You are starting to scare me…" Julian said after taking a step backward.
"I mean in terms of hardship during the missions," Frederick said. "Your progress is remarkable, but you aren't doing your best. Now you will have to do that because your friend might be in danger."
"Jake? How would Jake be in danger?" Louise asked while frowning.
"I am sure you have noticed that he dislikes guilds and guild masters, and he doesn't hide that," Frederick said. "I also had a weird feeling when I saw him for the first time. Luke was the same… we believe that this might be because of the memories of these bodies."
"Does that mean that even the avatars of the tutorial were these bodies?" Lana asked.
"It is possible since we can use our innate skills there, but we can't confirm it," Frederick replied. "Regardless, the memories of his body are intense, to the point that he reacted to me in a pretty intense way as well. Since he is always alone, he might get confused with the knowledge and memories that he will receive. That is one of the reasons that he might need your help."
"And the other?" Karina asked.
"Right now, he must be clearing the Electric Avians dungeon. He probably will take some time to do that because we neglected that mission since the next one is really troublesome," Frederick replied. "It is hard to explain, and it will be better to see for yourselves. All you need to know is that things get kind of messy there. For someone fighting solo, it will become even more dangerous, even more so considering what all of us are going to see soon."
"Now I am curious about it…" Lana said. "Anyway, boss, we need to help him, and you are here to help us reach the area he is in as soon as possible?"
"That is right, you already did well against the crystal wolves, so my help won't affect your progress that much," Frederick said.
"I think that won't feel something like we earned, but I guess it isn't something that can be helped…" Louise said. "We will be counting on you, guild master. By the way… Why do you want to help Jake?"
"I am not sure. I just have a feeling that we are birds of the same flock… Have you guys noticed Jake acting weirdly after waking up?" Frederick asked. "You camped with him a few times when you arrived on the neutral world, right?"
"Yes… Come to think of it… He looked like he had a pretty intense nightmare once," Louise said.
"He also mentioned that he had problems with insomnia," Lana said.
"I knew it… The truth is, he probably had the dreams of the memories of these bodies," Frederick said. "Some people have that, people like me and all the other guild masters."
"... Bad dreams?" Louise asked.
"Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, no," Frederick replied. "It varies from person to person, I rarely have bad dreams, but the ones who like to fight most tend to have more violent dreams."
"... Did you feel the same thing when you met the other guild masters for the first time?" Karina asked. "The same thing you felt with Jake?"
"You are pretty sharp… I felt like I knew them for a long time, but I didn't feel like they were troublesome," Frederick replied. "That is probably why despite our differences, we still can work together… But with Jake, things are different. It feels like we have some sort of connection, but his wavelength is different from the guild masters. Another thing… Once the awakening happens, you must watch his back. I am mature enough to understand that the memories of this body aren't the same as mine, and I will probably keep that mindset. Still, the same thing might not happen to others. Even some guild masters, so depending on the actions and memories of the previous owner of that body, Jake might be seen as an enemy by many people. You will have to be there to help him… He puts a strong front and acts like he doesn't care about anything, but who knows what someone will think if they see the world turning against them."
It felt like their world had turned upside down in just thirty minutes… Half an hour ago, they were talking about relaxing a bit, and now they were talking about the memories of the bodies that they were using, and that didn't belong to them. They also were talking that the relationship between people might change because of that… It was hard to say if that was insanity or not.
"Anyway, even Jake knows his limits, so he won't rush and try to kill all the monsters on a single day," Frederick said. "The creatures there are troublesome and dangerous, so he will use all the time possible to prepare for the boss. We have four days for that."
