Jake dashed at the armored giants again, and then some lightning bolts passed by his side and hit the enemies in front of him. The brains of those hits were fried up, and they fell dead. Jake targeted those behind the enemies that had been hit, and they assumed their defensive stances even before he swung his sword.
"They really have ordered only to slow us down…" Jake thought without stopping for that reason.
The two enemies in front of him lost their heads, but the others from the sides swung down their massive armies and attempted to smash Jake to the ground. He jumped backward and dodged them, but he still felt the ground trembling when he landed. Still, he used that chance to attack one of them, and this time, without the resistance of the arms and the armor. Jake had an easier time.
"Around one hundred mana points were used now," Virigilius said.
"I guess I can focus on counterattacking to preserve the energy…" Jake said.
That would take some extra time to finish off the enemies, but their backline couldn't move while the front was fighting, so that much was fine… Jake exposed himself and focused on the counterattack. He was doing the same thing that Julian and Karina got used to over the last few months. Since a direct fight wasn't good for them agaisnt numerous opponents, they focused on that.
Still, in the corner of his field of vision, Jake saw Julian trying to use Reflect against two arms of one enemy, he was pushed back for several meters, and his face got red due to the effort that he was putting him… but at least he made his weapon pierce deeply on the enemy fists, and its shoulders dislocated as well. That was the fastest way for him to kill the enemies, but it was too dangerous… a single failure, and he will be smashed.
"Kid, try to use the tip of your sword to Reflect the attack," Jake said while he zigzagged and avoided the powerful enemies' punches.
"But my skills work better when… I use the whole blade!" Julian explained when he blocked another attack directly again.
"Even water can pierce a diamond if its pressure is high enough," Jake said.
Julian didn't get the message completely since he wasn't the type who was able to think that much during a fight, but at least he decided to try that. When an armored giant charged at him like an unstoppable truck, he thrust his sword forward while the enemy's fists approached.
The fist easily pushed him backward, but the pressure of the attack didn't make his whole body vibrate like the other attacks. Moreover, he found his sword, at least half of it inside the enemy's fist, and an expression of pain could be seen on his face.
"I see… Reflect can also increase my piercing power like this due to the strength of the enemy…" Julian said and then used Mana Blades, making the hand of the enemy implode.
While the giant was agonizing in pain, Julian attacked its face and killed it. His innate skills had other variations, but since he was only used to defending and counterattacking in the most common way possible, the other ideas never came to mind.
Jake also paid attention to Karina's fighting style, but there wasn't much he could say to her. His fighting style wasn't like hers, which focused on speed to approach the enemies from behind and attack them, causing a shit ton of critical damage. Still, he could tell that she was starting to struggle in attacking since too many enemies were paying attention to her. Not to mention, they were protecting the back of their heads with their arms when they lost sight of her.
"Hey, use this," Jake said and tossed the magic kunai that he had.
Karina also couldn't understand what she was supposed to do with it, but then she saw Jake firing Mana Blades at the faces of the enemies around her, and they were forced to close their eyes for a moment. Even when she didn't move, they went to protect the back of their heads.
p Karina used that opportunity to approach them and then target their carotid artery… when they felt the sharp pain in their necks, the armored giants didn't die instantly, but they began to bleed a lot, and to stop the bleeding, they had to use one arm… leaving their backs half-exposed.
After seeing how she could use the kunai, Karina began to throw it around to disperse the focus of the enemies. She aimed at their faces, and when she got close enough, they were unable to dodge it… that helped her a lot at making the openings that she needed.
"I thought that he was more self-centered, but he surprisingly mindful of others… he can even give them some pointers…" Arilene said, visibly surprised by that while she summoned some ghost guards armed with clubs that attacked the few armored giants that passed by those three..
"And yet, the only thing he said to me was to focus on using more potions to help others… the nerve of that guy…" Lana laughed while facepalming.
"Well, I think it would be weird if he could give advice to a mage when he fights like a madman in the frontlines," Arilene said. "Based on what you told me before, I suspected that sword would fit him well, but not that well…"
"Well, he has gotten a lot better than before…" Lana said.
"Guys, let's focus on the battle," Louise said. "The number of enemies is decreasing, but not decreasing fast enough."
Those two nodded when they saw the other parties having a hard time trying to cover the sides of that formation. They had mostly mages and archers, so it was no surprise… even if they could kill the armored giants in a few seconds, they needed time to recover mana…
