Chapter 357 Wasting Time

Eventually, Jake confirmed that Frederick and the others got used to fighting the armored giants. However, they all suddenly began to hear the sound of wings flapping quickly approaching… that couldn't be a good sign. After not so long, they found some giant electric bats approaching and then firing Thunder Spears.

"Naturally, those guys would be on their side since this planet is theirs…" Jake thought.

Jake looked behind for a moment and saw a few kilometers away the backline fighting the golems that they had left behind. They were approaching, but not approaching fast enough… Frederick used his earth magic to create earth walls and block the Thunder Spears, and that was working, but then his allies began to miss the power of his magic agaisnt the armored giants.

"I suppose it can't be helped…" Jake thought and then sighed.

Jak jumped with all his might for a moment and then took a deep breath… he already knew how that technique worked, but he wasn't using it the right way, so it might have some problems… Regardless, Jake swung the sword with all his might, firing a single Mana Blade that expanded insanely fast as it flew toward the flying enemies.

When it reached them, the electric bats had no time to dodge it, and they were destroyed down to atomic levels… in the blink of an eye, Jake recovered all of his mana, but not all the mana he had stored in the sword. The beam of energy illuminated the whole area and drew the attention of everyone in hundreds of kilometers toward the light… it probably had been the largest skill in terms of escape alone they had seen… they also felt that being directly hit by that would mean death.

"I guess this should help stir some fear in the hearts of the enemies and make some runaway…" Jake thought when he landed.

Jake thought that the armored giants weren't that smart, but they were paralyzed after seeing the attack… until now, they had fought like they couldn't fear anything, but it seemed that it wasn't the case. Still, they weren't the only ones paralyzed.

"What are you waiting for? Keep attacking!" Jake said to his and the other parties.

They probably were thinking that Jake could spam that attack… they couldn't be further from the truth… he would need three times more mana than his mana pool could store. It was only possible because the sword was too much of a good conductor of mana…

"The analysis of the technique was completed," Virgilius said. "It seems that the more mana you store in it, the more the weapon will be able to affect you and the surroundings. You yourself won't obtain the power to drain the mana from the environment and from the attacks of others, but the weapon will act like a dark hole of energy once it has enough mana."

"I didn't notice that happening until now, so I guess it will take a lot of energy to reach that level…" Jake said and then charged at the armored giants again.

The enemies formed several lines to increase their defensive power and that made Jake click his tongue in annoyance… with their arms raised like that, they truly looked like a wall. When he thought of targeting their heads or neck, his target changed the position of his arms to horizontally and then blocked the attack… even though Jake hit the enemy's neck and pierced it, he felt a lot more resistance than before.

"The mana dispersion increased by fifty percent," Virgilius declared. "Attacking like before won't cut it. Your allies are also having a hard time due to it."

"Annoying beasts…" Jake said while considering his options.

"To make your mana gather faster and make it more effective the use, I suggest you to use your dark flames," Virgilius said. "Even at low levels that won't strain your mind, it should be enough to deal with the enemies when they are like this."

Jake was already aware of that, but that would make all of his sin skills work… he was fine in using only the dark flames, but it was something beyond his control now… in fact, he was fine using all of the others except his own… the power to take things from others… he truly hated that.

"Commander, I understand your hesitation to use that power," Virgilius said. "You feel like the only thing you have in your life is to take things from others due to that power. Still, you must remember your own words."

"Are you trying to act like my psychiatrist now?" Jake asked. "Anyway, what did I say?"

"The more you live, the more you start to remember only the bad stuff… we usually take the good things for granted, and the bad things like some consecutive strike of bad luck," Virgilius replied. "For the longest time, you have been blaming yourself for the death of your mother. You think that you took her life when at that time, you had control over nothing."

Jake sighed… why was he hearing life advice from someone he had just met a few weeks ago? His life sure was messed up… but he had a point. He didn't want to use his power for the wrong reasons, but what about the right reasons? His allies were struggling to fight the enemies, and more of them were probably coming in… they were doing their best, and yet, he refused to use all of his cards.

"I am already doing plenty for myself, but… I can do better," Jake thought. "I don't have time, and I don't want to waste more time here than they have to…"

Jake enhanced his sword with the dark flames, and the flames were a lot more intense than before. Mithril was supposed to be the best conductor for mana, but perhaps it wasn't only for the purest form of energy…

Jake dashed toward the enemies and then swung his sword… cutting in half the targets without any resistance.
