C28 – Wen Huaimu’s Plan

“The situation is quite straightforward. But you high rollers always have your doubts,” Wen Huaimu chided Mu Shuxin and Big T. Reveling in his secret satisfaction, he continued, “The Votroecorians are pulling the strings from the shadows.”

“Votroecorians, really? How did you come by this information?” Mu Shuxin wasn’t one to take rumors at face value. Wen Huaimu needed to present irrefutable proof.

“Well, I owe a debt of gratitude to a certain gay man who took a fancy to me,” Wen Huaimu said with a smirk, glancing at the brooding Big T. “Odd as he may be, the man’s got a vicious streak. Big T, did you know Beardy betrayed you? Then he set up Mu Shuxin.”

“That’s impossible,” Big T interjected, his voice resolute.

“Impossible? I personally witnessed him and Mr. Huan from Howlingswords plotting against you. His next move was to take out Mu Shuxin, making Mr. Huan the new face of Howlingswords in Anbury,” Wen Huaimu said with a scoff, followed by a sigh. “Truth is, everyone’s got their ambitions. No one’s ever truly content. Big T, give it some thought. That scoundrel’s been acting off for a while now.”

Big T’s expression darkened further at these words. He lay back on the sofa, eyes closed, his eyelids twitching slightly as if a realization had struck him.

Mu Shuxin let out a laugh and asked, “Kid, you’re quite the enigma. But why drop by out of the blue to spill these secrets?”

Mu Shuxin knew all too well there’s no such thing as a free lunch. Wen Huaimu’s warning had to have strings attached. It would be peculiar if he didn’t have an ulterior motive.

With a knowing smile, Wen Huaimu replied, “Truth be told, I’m just a patriotic young man. I shared all this with you in hopes that you’d wipe out the Votroecor mafia wreaking havoc in Vuspoynga.”

“Is that so?” Mu Shuxin eyed Wen Huaimu suspiciously. Despite Wen Huaimu’s usual demeanor, there was an enigmatic aura about him.

“Alright, believe it or not, that’s your call—I’ve given you the inside scoop. There’s nothing worth sticking around for, so I’m heading out. Just remember me if something good comes up in the future,” Wen Huaimu said, standing up with a smile.Ne/w novel chapters are published at novelhall.com

“Hold on,” Big T said, opening his eyes and giving Wen Huaimu a complex look. “I appreciate it this time, kid. I owe you one.”

Wen Huaimu paused, then shrugged nonchalantly. “No big deal,” he replied, and walked out, leaving Mu Shuxin and the others lost in thought.

Once outside the room, his smile widened. He never imagined he’d get to rub shoulders with such high rollers. It was quite the thrill.

But his magical power was dwindling with every use, and his elfin was growing weaker. He could only conjure up two more wind blades with what was left of his reserves. It was better to get out while he could. Long Hair and Chickenhead would get theirs eventually.

Wen Huaimu made a beeline from the elevator to the exit of Nighty Night. He glanced back at the seemingly mundane place with its hidden depths, smirked, and hailed a cab.

Meanwhile, Wen Huaimu’s daydreaming was cut short by the impatient elfin in the ring. Despite her frail state, she berated Wen Huaimu loudly. Snapping back to reality, he sensed the elfin’s dissatisfaction, offered an embarrassed smile, and commanded the ring to grant the elfin entry and exit privileges.

In an instant, the elfin materialized outside the ring. Before Wen Huaimu could get a good look, she transformed into a young girl, about twelve or thirteen years old.

The grown elfin was undeniably more charming and alluring, yet aside from her face, it was evident that the rest of her body was still undeveloped.

The elfin paid no attention to Wen Huaimu. With a graceful flutter of her wings, she zipped toward the lunchbox on the table.

The tantalizing scents of various dishes filled the air, luring the elfin to sniff eagerly. Her eyes sparkled as she opened a lunchbox to reveal her favorite treat: roasted crabs!

Three golden, crispy crabs topped with a sprinkle of green onions released an aroma so enticing it made one’s mouth water.

“Diaochan, you really ought to eat your vegetables,” Wen Huaimu gently chided.

But the elfin was undeterred, grabbing a crab and munching away with a scoff, “Violent elves don’t do veggies.”

Wen Huaimu was at a loss for words.

Yet, Diaochan’s hearty eating piqued Wen Huaimu’s own hunger. He reached forward and picked up a crab for himself.

Ultimately, the elfin devoured the lion’s share of the meal Wen Huaimu had ordered, leaving him with less than a fifth of the food, and he was already too stuffed to take another bite.

Watching the elfin continue her feast, Wen Huaimu was so astounded he was beyond words.

“Diaochan, are you still hungry?” he asked timidly.

Suddenly adopting an air of refinement, the elfin elegantly pulled out a napkin and dabbed at her lips, replying, “I’m about eighty percent full.”
