Chapter 52 - Backfire

Lisa woke up late in the morning.  She barely slept last night. Part of the night was spent to curse Ruhan. Then she shifted her attention to plan ahead.

Ruhan had thought that Lisa married him for his money and family.  They were not entirely wrong.

Everyone knew that LiCorp had changed its ownership and it was now owned by another company.  The name of the company was "Anamika Corporation" which literally meant nameless. As Lisa's mother didn't want anyone to know that she was the owner of the company....including Mr. Akter, she couldn't use the Akter's connections to develop the company.  That's why..until now... the company profit could not compare to the original LiCorp.

Most of the funds of Anamika Corporations was exhausted in an attempt to buy LiCorp. The company was now struggling and it would take time to recover both of them.

Lisa wanted to enter into Ahmed Corporations to act as an insider. She had knowledge about business management as well as a degree on architecture.  With her identify as Mr. Ahmed's daughter in law,  it would not be difficult to get a job in the main branch .

With these ideas in mind, Lisa decided to fawn over her in laws to get permission to join the company.

With this plan in mind, she cheerfully went to the kitchen to prepare lunch. Her mother in law was overseeing the cooking.  She gave her the sweetest smile and asked,

"Aunty, what are you preparing now? Can I help you?"

Mrs. Ahmed looked at her with suspicion. "Why do you suddenly want to cook? What do you want now?"

Lisa choked. Did she give the impression that she would not cook for anyone without a hidden agenda?

Anyway... She smiled awkwardly,  "Aunty...I was actually feeling guilty about that night. I shouldn't have disrespected you. Let me compensate..please."

Mrs. Ahmed really held a grudge against Lisa. So she deliberately made things difficult for her.

"Oh really? You regret? Then are you willing to accept Ruhan?"

Hearing this question,  Lisa's face turned gloomy. She scolded her inwardly, 'Accept  a person like your son? Dream on!!'

But...thinking about the bigger picture,  she decided to swallow her anger.

"He he, It's not like I don't want to accept him. It's just that I don't find him dependable.  You are also a woman, you should understand my inner conflicts." Lisa lowered her gaze as if she was really very sad.

Thinking about Ruhan's past reputation and now seeing Lisa's pitiful looks, Mrs. Ahmed's face softened. She too found her son's habits unacceptable.  Now to think about it...if Lisa's extreme methods could mend Ruhan's ways, it would not be a bad thing.

"Alright, alright" she waved her hand,  "Enough with idle conversations. If you want to cook then cook. But do you even know how to cook?"

Lisa immediately made a sad face. "N...no...I was thinking if you could teach me!"

Mrs. Ahmed became speechless!  It's been a long time since she cooked for anyone!  She was accustomed to her leisurely life.

She sighed helplessly. Nevermind! She would just instruct her about one or two simple dishes.

Thus, the pair of mother & daughter in law shooed away the servants and started to cook food together.

While cooking,  Lisa asked her mother in law casually,

"Aunty, I wanted to ask about something."

"What? " Mrs. Ahmed asked without looking at her.

"Well...is there any specific rule in our family that girls are not allowed to go out to work?" Lisa asked timidly.

Mrs. Ahmed stopped working and looked at her.

"So...are you planning to go out to work?"

Lisa lowered her gaze. "If it's possible then I would." she then said hurriedly,  "But I won't work too hard. I will give proper time to my family. "

Mrs. Ahmed frowned. "Ahmed family can afford to take care of you. If you want anything just ask. No need to go out to work."

Lisa scolded her again. 'I want to earn my own money. Do you have any problem with that?'

But she didn't show her displeasure.

She bit her lips and tried a new approach,

"Actually,  to be honest...it would be better for Ruhan if you allow me to go to work."

"How?" Mrs. Ahmed finally showed interest.

"Think about it...at present Ruhan doesn't work and spend your money. But nobody criticises him because he is your son. But If I, his wife, earn money while he just idles around, won't people criticize him for leeching off his wife's money? Ruhan is someone who cherishes his reputation. He must take their words to heart and try his best to earn more money than I do." Lisa tried to persuade her.

Actually, Lisa was not bluffing. It was really that easy to manipulate Ruhan. You would just have to hurt his ego!

Mrs. Ahmed started contemplating. Lisa was not wrong. If Lisa started to work and earned more money than Ruhan, he would obviously be criticized by others. And with his temperament, he would never swallow such insult. He would either stop Lisa from going out to work. Or try to earn more money than her.

"But..it does not look well if Ahmed family's daughter in law goes out to work." Mrs. Ahmed hesitated.

"What if....what if I work in Ahmed Group of industries? " Lisa mumbled.

"What?" Mrs. Ahmed was startled, "It's not possible. Ruhan's father is strictly against favouritism. He would not open a backdoor for anyone. He values skill above everything."

Lisa was offended. When did she say that she wanted to use a backdoor?

She pouted, "I am not telling to open a backdoor. I want to join the office through Official interview. "

Mrs. Ahmed raised her eyebrow. This girl was really overconfident!!! From where did she get the assurance that she would be selected in an interview?

But..it wouldn't harm anyone to try at least.

"I will talk to my husband about it. But....I have a condition."

"What?" Lisa's face brightened.

"You have to convince Ruhan to join office too...within 3months." Mrs. Ahmed dropped the bomb.

"What!!!" Lisa's eyes widened! She was just bluffing about persuading Ruhan. She didn't have any intention to let him join office.

"What? You have an objection? " Mrs. Ahmed's voice became sharp.

"N...no... I'll try my best to convince him." Lisa shook her head violently. She had never thought that her simple speech would backfire like this!! She was now somewhat regretful. She should have used another excuse to join office.

"Good" Mrs. Ahmed patted her head. "Now concentrate on cooking."

Lisa hung her head and continued cooking with a heavy heart.

Being a daughter-in-law was really difficult ah!!!
