Chapter 87 - Curiosity kills the cat

Liton was right. After speaking with Mr. Ahmed, Lisa felt relieved. It was really difficult to keep a secret.

It goes without saying that Lisa was being too self-righteous. The fact that she was working at her in-law's office was a privilege for her. In order to satisfy her vanity, she refused to accept help from her father-in-law which led to this problem. In fact, if she had asked for help, Mr. Ahmed would not have looked down on her. Instead, she could have been benefited by being trained by an experienced person like Mr. Ahmed.

Lisa called Liton to thank him. He was worried about her. But after hearing her cheerful voice, his mind was at ease.

But, someone else became really pissed off after seeing her calm look.

Ruhan was hoping to see Lisa's anxious and defeated look today. He had already prepared to ridicule her.  But when he saw the calm and peaceful Lisa, he immediately felt that something was wrong.

"You...are you all right? " Ruhan asked tentatively.

"Why wouldn't I be?" Lisa smirked.

Ruhan was dissatisfied with her nonchalant attitude. He saw her laughing and conversing beautifully with other people. Even with his other cousins she had excellent relationship. But when it came to him, she never gave him a good face. He could feel her reluctance to talk to him.

However,  he suppressed her dissatisfaction and probed her further, "I heard that an important project under you was going to start today. Was there everything ok with that project? "

After Tuli's betrayal,  Lisa had already become somewhat wary of her surroundings. So Ruhan's question immediately alarmed her. But her expression remained the same. Afterall, she didn't want to startle the snake.

"There was some problems..but it's nothing that I can't handle." she forced herself to smile.

"Oh!" Ruhan was somewhat disappointed. "This project is important. So don't mess anything up."

"So what if I mess up? What can anyone do anything to me? The company belongs to my father-in-law. He will help me whenever I need." Lisa said proudly.

"You...don't be so overconfident. Do you really think my father would clean up your mess? Dream on!" Ruhan scoffed and left the room angrily.

As soon as he left the room, Lisa's face turned gloomy.

Even if Ruhan didn't point it out...Lisa understood very well that if she did anything to harm the company, Mr. Ahmed wouldn't think twice before firing her. She said those things deliberately to annoy him.

How could she not see the disappointment on Ruhan's face!!! His expression made one thing clear- whether Ruhan was related to the conspiracy or not..he was paying close attention to this project. This was bad news for Lisa.

Because if he really became interested in office work, Mr. Ahmed would certainly replace her. Afterall, blood is thinker than water. Moreover, the shareholders would also prefer Ruhan to her.

'Have I been wrong all along?' Lisa thought to herself.

'All these times I have been thinking that the senior employees in the company would benefit the most if I fail in this project.

But in reality, the person who will benefit the most is Ruhan. Because today or tomorrow the job should belong to him.'

Lisa suddenly slapped her forehead.

'Shit! I have really been blind these days! How could I forget about the hidden danger that is living with me.'

He is the eldest son of Mr. Ahmed, the heir to the company. Moreover, as her husband, He could easily make the loyal senior employees turn against her and persuade them to give false testimony.

Lisa took deep breaths to calm herself down. If Ruhan was really related to this incident, the situation was much more serious than she thought. She might not even have three days to solve the problem.

At this moment, Ruhan had no idea that his simple question had made Lisa suspicious of him and thus, jeopardised his whole plan.

Just like the old proverb,

"Curiosity kills the cat."
