Just before he could answer her, Eliott's doorbell began to ring incessantly. He frowned; he couldn't imagine anyone having worse timing than that!
Alex felt a little sad too, as she was about to see the face of the beautiful voice that had been invading her thoughts since last night. "What good timing... It looks like you have a visitor, you should go and open the door..." She said dejectedly, looking at the empty space of the neighbouring balcony.
"I swear I didn't plan this," Eliott laughed. "I know you can't wait to see me, but it looks like we'll have to postpone this meeting, but don't worry, I already promise. So, the next time we meet, you'll be able to see me ... Good night, beautiful," he added.
"I wish you a good night too. Bye," Alex waved goodbye to him before walking back to her room with a big smile. Even though she was a little disappointed that she wouldn't get to see the face that was behind that mesmerising voice that night, at least she had a promise. She couldn't help but wonder if he was really as good looking as he claimed.
Eliott, for his part, was a little annoyed. He had been having a good time and had managed to arouse the curiosity of his beautiful neighbour, but he was suddenly interrupted. He wondered who could be so bold and stupid as to come at this hour and disturb him, which even his parents wouldn't dare to do.
After careful consideration, he came to only one answer, for there was only one person capable of disturbing him at this hour: his best friend Christopher. Without the least enthusiasm, he went to the door, and if he could have he would rather have let the man out. Without checking who was at the door, he opened it. As soon as the door opened, Christ rushed in without even greeting his host, and went straight to the bar, where he served himself a glass of wine before making himself comfortable on the couch.
"What's your problem with bothering people this late?" asked Eliott, eyeing his friend as if he were an unwanted insect.
"Can't you be a little nicer to the people who come to see you? I'm here to rest!" Christ didn't even bother to look at his friend, knowing he'd surely make a long face now.
Hearing that, Eliott rolled his eyes, "Should I remind you that you live right across the street?"
Christ owned several residences, one of them being located directly in front of Eliott's house for proximity and business purpose. As his assistant and lawyer, Christ always had to be on call and close to his crazy boss.
"What's going on, anyway? You look so agitated!" asked Eliott, who knew his friend too well to believe he was just there for a glass of wine.
"Nothing much really, I'm just a bit bored." Christ tried to change the subject, but it was too late. But he immediately regretting his sentence, he knew that after hearing that sentence Eliott would try to give him more work!
As if he had read his friend's mind Eliott grinned, "Really? You know when I'm bored I work, so you wouldn't mind a little more work, right?"
Christ could only sigh, "That's not what I mean..."
Eliott knew his friend best, they'd known each other since they were kids, it was clear to him that he was pretty down that night. And he knew that had to be pretty important, Christopher was one of those people who always smiled and only saw the bright side of life.
"So, what's bothering you so much that you would give up a night of debauchery and come all the way out here?"
"You know that girl I met at the New Bell airport? I invited her over last night to have some fun, we had a great night, so good we ended up in bed..."
"Yes, yes, Fidelia! So? What's the problem? Doesn't she want to let you go?" Eliott couldn't understand what the problem was, because it was always the way Christ spent his dates.
"It's quite the opposite, this morning when I woke up she wasn't there without leaving so much as a word!" Christ gave his friend a downcast look.
"Well, you've got something to be happy about... For once no one is claiming you to take responsibility," Eliott chuckled, it was something new that a woman could make his friend look so dejected. He was enjoying the moment with a little too much glee.
"That's not funny!!! That means I didn't make enough of an impression! Me Christopher!!! This is really embarrassing you know..." he blurted out.
"Maybe our dear Christopher has lost his touch with women!!!" Eliott was laughing out loud now!
"F**k you!!! At least people don't say I'm gay because I don't date!!!"
Eliott laughed even louder "That doesn't bother me in the least! ... Seriously, why don't you just call her if you're so curious about her!"
"Who said I was curious about her?"
"Ok ok, why don't you call her to find out what happened that morning!!! Maybe she was in a hurry to go to work..."
"If I call her first, I'll lose face! That's out of the question!"
"Man, in love sometimes you've to be able to let go, sometimes you have to accept losing face! Otherwise, you will lose her! " Elliot shook his head at his friend's childish behaviour.
Christ was a little taken aback by Eliott. Who said he was in love? What kind of nonsense was his friend talking about? "In love? Who's talking about love, I'm not in love with her, don't scare me with a statement like that!" He shouted, "And look who's talking about love, do you even know what it's like to be in love? " He added. The truth is, they were both at a loss when it came to this topic.
"Yeah, you don't like her! You haven't told me she is the most beautiful and interesting girl you have ever met, you haven't stopped talking about her since you met her, you haven't rushed to give her a date, you haven't taken her to your house, you haven't slept with her in your bed, and you're not here moping around just because she left without a word and didn't call you back." Elliot spoke all these facts slowly, so Christ was horrified at his words.
"It's true that I did all those things, but that doesn't mean anything, she's just another girl I met!!!" Christ couldn't admit that he was actually in love. It couldn't be, it couldn't happen to him, what about all the women he hadn't met then?
"If I remember correctly, that's the first woman you take home, the others were only entitled to a hotel room! I say that, I don't say anything. Besides, she's the first girl you've told me about, so I just assumed it was serious this time and you felt something different for her. But if you think I'm wrong, so be it." Eliott sipped his wine in silence and looked into his friend's struggling face.
"Maybe you're right, it's also the first time I've been this restless after spending just one night with a girl, and that was the best night I've had with her in years!" He admitted.
"All I can tell you is that you've got it bad! So man up and call her!" Eliott took Christ's cell phone, which he had thrown away, and handed it to him.
"I still can't! I told her last night that I didn't want to be in a serious relationship before we did what we had to do!"
"Just call her and tell her how you feel!" Eliott sighed.
