Gale looks at the guild receptionist and says.
"you may leave us alone."
she replies as she waves the registration form in her hand.
"okay sir, but he is registering to become an adventurer."
he clicks his tongue to her.
"I'm well aware of that."
he points at the top of his desk and says sternly.
"leave it here, and I'll handle the rest."
she nods nervously.
"okay, sorry sir."
after the receptionist leaves, Gale sits back down on his hair and then silently stares at me, for a few minutes until I ask.
"so what now?"
he sighs.
"I'm going to be testing your magical abilities now."
I ask curiously.
"is it normal for a guild master to test out the abilities of new members?"
he shakes his head.
"no, but King Dave asked me, to observe your test personally."
I ask.
"why?"
he answers with a serious tone.
"since you weren't born with the hero's blessing, your full strength will freak out the other recruits."
I respond.
"I see."
he stands back up and says as he walks out of the office.
"come on, the quicker we get this done, the sooner you can fulfill your duties for King Dave."
as we exit his office, I ask curiously.
"so you are aware of what I'm going to do after I reach the highest rank in the guild right?"
he nods.
"you'll be training young magic knights, like you did with Ying, James, Katie and the others."
but his voice went from serious to sadness after he mentioned Katie's name, I then ask.
"were you friends with Katie?"
he replies.
"yes, even though we're from different kingdoms, most of us that were born with the hero's blessing, become friends."
I ask.
"even if the human kingdoms ever broke out into war against each other."
he replies.
"yeah, since we are the great equalizers of the Dragonoids, the kings would not allow us to kill each other if that ever happened."
I think to myself.
"that makes sense, if their numbers were to dwindle, the the Dragonoids, would attack the humans without any hesitation."
as we arrive at the guild's training area, Gale asks me.
"so tell me Collin, how did you manage to defeat Ying in a one on one battle?"
I chuckle nervously.
"I only beat him, because he gave me an advantage, if I were to fight him fair and square, he would beat me without a doubt."
surprised of the answer I gave him, he responds.
"that's weird, he really give you a lot of praise when he talked about you."
he pauses and continues.
"which is understandable, because even though I don't want to admit it, when you beat me I was also impressed with your strength."
he clears his throat, and points at a dummy target and says.
"okay show me your strongest magic attack that isn't physical."
disappointment looms over me, as I think to myself.
"but I only know the triple fire shot spell."
Gales asks impatiently.
"what are you waiting for?"
I sigh and as I aim both of my open palms at the dummy target, I chant.
"dual triple fire shot."
the fireballs fly through the air and hit the target, but it didn't seem to do anything to it, surprised by this outcome I ask myself as I look at both of my hands.
"what the hell, was my magic attack always this weak?"
I then look at the unimpressed Gale, who asks.
"is that your strongest?"
I nod.
"yeah, I haven't been able to learn any new spells."
he sighs disappointed.
"fine, then at least show me your physical strength."
I take a couple of deep breaths and chant.
"silver eyes."
Gale sounding impressed says with a raised voice.
"what the hell, you weren't emitting this large amount of mana, when we fought."
I reply.
"well I've been getting stronger, after out last encounter."
he asks curiously.
"how much?"
I respond.
"if you compare me to your spriggan's strength I'm much stronger physically."
he replies skeptically.
"I know you're strong, but now no one has been able to beat my spriggan's physical strength."
I grin smugly and ask.
"you sure about that?"
he replies confidently.
"yes."
I then ask as I point at the target dummy.
"how about a test, on that."
he replies.
"okay then, go ahead, since you are already using those silver eyes."
I walk towards the practice dummy and break into tiny pieces in one piece, I then look back at Gale who is standing there stunned at what I've done, I then say myself.
"was it really that impressive, that practice dummy wasn't very durable."
I then shout at Gale.
"how was that!?"
he shouts back.
"you really are a monster, Collin Belfaust!"
I walk back to Gale and he says.
"those target dummies are made of solid steel, and imbued with magical protections from
tier two magic spells and below."
I ask.
"is that so?"
he sighs and says.
"I don't know, how you keep doing these incredible feats."
I grin smugly at him and say.
"well go ahead and show me the physical strength your spriggan is capable of."
he sighs and chants.
"spriggan."
the seven foot humanoid tree, emerges from the concrete floor, seemingly out of thin air, as it stares at me, I ask Gale.
"is it the same one I fought before."
he shakes his head.
"no, it's always a new one everytime."
he then gives it a command a he points at another practice dummy.
"go and hit that target."
the spriggan hits the target dummy, with all of it's
might, but it only managed to bend the steel dummy backwards, Gale sighs.
"I guess you are physically stronger than my spriggan."
I chuckle and ask.
"so with that done, what's next?"
he replies.
"well I've seen enough, and you will be placed in E Rank."
I ask disappointed.
"why?"
he answers.
"because no matter how good you did, King Dave wants you to work your way up from the bottom."
I ask curiously.
"is that so, then what are the ranks?"
he replies.
"E Rank, D Rank, C Rank, B Rank, A Rank, S Rank, SS Rank."
I ask.
"so am I supposed to achieve a SS Rank?"
he shakes his head.
"no S and SS Ranks, are usually held by retired magic knights or those born with the Hero's Blessing but didn't attend the academy."
he pauses for a moment and then continues.
"what King Dave expects you to reach at least to an A Rank."
he then says.
"now then, I'll go get you your guild card, so you can start doing some quests right away."
I ask.
"where do you want me to wait?"
he responds.
"at the lobby, obviously, I'll come by when it is ready."
I head towards the guild's lobby, and find a table to sit at, where I wait around for about thirty minutes, until the same female receptionist approaches me and hands over my guild card.
"welcome to the guild, Mr. Collin Belfaust."
