Chapter 5：Fregones

"I've....read about them....they're intelligent, dead people. Like zombies. But they're smart. And there are things that they can do that no mortal being can." Selene said.

"Like...stretching their arms or claws?" Kuroki asked, now with a concerned expression on her face.

Chapter 5

As Selene started to help Eve get better, Kuroki started examining the room. She could see that the windows were all sealed off, with wooden boards.

"Why are the windows sealed off, Selene?" Kuroki asked.

"Fregones are known to enter houses through the windows." Selene stated.

"But...if they're smart, then why don't they just go through the door?" Ian asked, now confused.

"Since they know that humans expect others to go through the door, fregones decide to surprise attack us by going through the windows." Selene replied.

"That makes sense...I guess." Kuroki stated.

"Here." Ian stated as he offered Kuroki his sweater.

"Thanks." Kuroki thanked, smiling.

"You're welcomed to stay here if you'd like." Selene offered.

"Thank you!" Kuroki smiled.

A few hours later, night came upon the trio. Everyone had gone to sleep, except for Ian. Kuroki woke up in the middle of the night and she saw Ian.

"Are you...okay?" She asked, walking towards Ian.

"I just can't sleep." Ian said.

"Is it about...the fregones?" Kuroki asked.

Ian nodded.

"You should probably go to bed now, to get rest." Ian said.

"I'll stay with you." Kuroki said.

Ian somewhat blushed and stayed silent. They both sat together, thinking about the horrifying creatures they had come across. Eventually, Kuroki was so tired, she ended up falling asleep. Her head slightly bent to the side, where Ian was. Ian, too, had fallen asleep. It was somewhat awkward, Kuroki had kind of fallen asleep on Ian, but it was peaceful.
